If youre in Big Spring, please drive three minutes off the highway and stay here instead of the highway hotels! For just a few dollars more, you can walk into the restored elegance of the 1930s building in which you can tell they paid attention to the smallest of details to bring it back to its former glory. The rooms are large and everything is quite comfortable. Like other reviews have mentioned, its also impressively clean! Well worth the few more dollars for a multi-day stay, or just a restful evening on the road

2 stars because the hotel is actually a nice property. The management is a different story. We had a flight delay due to weather and could not check in the first night, called the hotel the night to inform. Next day got there, got charged a no show fee. Going back and forth with expedia and management because we were told after dealing with expedia hotel would try and help us get back the first night fee back. Long story short, it could not be refunded because the management decided to take the one night fee anyway. Tried calling and texting manager, no response. If you need flexibility, this hotel is not for you. Their customer service needs a lot of work. Such a shame, i really wanted to like this place.

If youre into historic architecture and design, you are going to be absolutely enchanted by this place. I could walk around this place for hours. We stayed a night to celebrate our anniversary and had a great dinner at the Settles Grill. Its walking distance to a cool place called The Train Car that has a great patio with live music on the weekends, a huge selection of cigars and a full bar. What a treasure for West Texas!

The hotel’s vintage aesthetic is gorgeous. Beds and linens are so comfortable, loved the furniture choices in the room and throughout the hotel. Grounds were pretty. Was disappointed that the pool area was closed but I suppose that’s just the season we’re in right now - was only warm enough for the pool one day anyway. Tallest building in town so third floor and up gives you a pretty great view. Liked the security of the key carded elevators. The bar was very pretty, billiards area impressive - wasn’t terribly impressed by the drinks.... nothing wrong with them at all but the bar itself is so grand I expected a larger selection of liquor and perhaps more hotel specialty drinks; that’s not normally my MO at a bar - I like pretty traditional, basic fare but I also don’t usually go to hotel bars and when I do they usually have fancy schmancy concoctions. Several fun things to look at within walking distance - antique stores, municipal auditorium, old theater, a bar and a couple of restaurants. Other fun things were a very short drive away and big spring is pretty easy to navigate. The place has a very grand and romantic vibe to it and I would absolutely go again and recommend to others.

It was a beautiful hotel but instead of enjoying my 34th wedding anniversary in the room I had reserved three weeks in advance, I was turned away. Simply because they would not accept my cash. Even with a thousand dollars in my pocket, they refused to let me stay there because my debit card didnt have$350 on it, which they could have put a hold on it when I made the reservation. Their policy plainly states that a valid card is needed for booking the reservation, which I had. Needless to say, what was supposed to be an unforgettable experience ended up being my worst anniversary in 34 years.

It is a wonderful recreation of a 30s style hotel. Beautiful decor, old style finishes. Just beautiful. The restaurant was excellent. Great food, great service. The bar actually can make a real gin fizz and an old fashion. Something lost in many modern bars. The roasted chicken was moist and juicy, and the sauce was very flavorful. The greens were perfect, not too hard, but not soggy and mushy either. Green beans cooked well and seasoned well. The chicken fried steak was crispy and very well seasoned. Hotel staff was helpful and attentive. We stayed in one of the parlor rooms, very comfortable. Great stay.

We went to the restaurant here, after reading all of the good reviews. Im not sure if this place has gone downhill from the pandemic or what. But it was extremely overpriced considering I ordered a burger, and was served a clearly previously frozen patty that probably came from walmart, with some iceberg lettuce. I ordered a fruit cup for my son and he was given some kind of canned pears, not even a variety or fresh fruit. I ordered the chocolate cake for dessert and was given the driest cake Ive ever had, that was dowsed in some disgusting chocolate syrup to try and make up for the dryness I guess. My husband and brother got the chicken fried steak and they said the mashed potatoes seemed like boxed mashed potatoes and the green beans were cold. All of this for a $75 bill and I could have made food 10x better at home. The sweet tea was good though. Overall it was very disappointing after all the good things we read/heard. We definitely will not be returning.

We got there with 5 minutes to spare for happy hour my girl got the house Merlot she said it was a pretty good one for a happy hour one especially. The staff was awesome again the only thing I might suggest they do different would be some time period correct uniforms for the staff it would make it a little bit more fun especially since the place opened in 1929 and they put it back to as close to as original as they could want to make the staff close to the original also. The rooms are used bathrooms awesome its just a neat neat place

I left a written statement at the desk about our issues and was not contacted. I would expect the hotel to make a full refund for the frustrating that we had and having to drive all day with no sleep. This place may look wonderful but its not. The lovely dining room that you see on the all me internet is not available to you we ate in a noisy place and we were charged $9 for one after dinner drink. The room was clean but nothing else seemed to work out for us. Please contact me at Sheila_ Chuck @comcast.net to discuss making a full refund on our stay.THE CRABILLS

This hotel exceeded all expectations. My wife and I decided to make an overnight stop here on the way to Midland. The quality of the restoration of this hotel is superb. It really does capture the feeling of the 1930s but with very modern conveniences. The rooms are every bit as nice as anything I have stayed in at much more expensive hotels in NYC or anywhere else. We stayed in a King Parlor room. The restaurant is good - we had dinner and brunch. The service was fantastic.COVID 19 - the cleanliness throughout the hotel was excellent. The rooms were spotless and there was zero odor from scents being used to hide lack of cleaning. The room was clean and naturally smelled clean.Big Springs is a bit of a reach for me to recommend as a destination, but if you are traveling to Midland or points west from DFW area, this is a great hotel to interrupt your journey and get off the road.

Seriously, this is one very special hotel. Beautifully restored, oozing charm and history. On our way home from Amarillo, we decided to stay at the Hotel Settles in one of the Heritage rooms. We are both seniors and they had very good COVID19 procedures in effect and we felt very comfortable in all areas of the hotel. When we opened the door to the room, Deb and I fell even more in love with this lovely venue. It really reminded us of a fine European hotel. Our room (303) was immaculate with excellent linens and bedding and a comfortable bed. A Keurig with quality coffee, Gilchrist and Soames bathroom accoutrements and water in the room was more icing on the cake. They obviously take service very seriously, which is reflected in the attitude of every staff member we met and from check in to check out we received great service and felt valued. We availed ourselves of the bar upon arrival (very helpful and attentive bar staff) and the restaurant, for both dinner and breakfast. We were delighted to have friendly, professional and attentive servers for both dinner and breakfast. Thank you Kelsey (dinner) and Jovanna (breakfast) for the great service and for visitin with us a little. This would be a great place to meet up with friends and just enjoy the hotel and its amenities. Full disclosure, I grew up just outside of Big Spring and watched the Settles fall into disrepair, so I think it is great that it has been rescued and restored to such a beautiful condition. I love looking at all of the historical pictures scattered around. There is great history here. The rooms are huge! Ladies will love the separate vanity area. Guys will love the bar with its own sink. The Cafe is very good, and it is great to see that the locals frequent it as much or more than the hotel guests. I made reservations for Valentines dinner with my husband. We arrived and were seated within a few minutes but the girl who seated us seemed like she was very busy. After being seated we are given a Valentines Day menu, I asked if this is the only thing they are serving and she said yes. It was $129.00 plus tax of course for a couples dinner. What? They should have told us that when we made the reservation. We didnt feel like looking for another restaurant and didnt want to be looked at as being cheap (paying that wasnt the issue). As the waitress brings the drinks she tells us that she is going to see if they still have appetizers because they have another gathering and she thinks they ran out. She made it seem like we werent getting it because they were short appetizers. We got our salad, and the cucumber salad I got was such a small portion but still good. My husband got the wedge salad and his portion was much better. We got out entree and the steak was delicious, the prawns were over cooked and the crabcakes over seasoned. The mashed potatoes were also delicious. After we got the entree we then got the amuse-bouche, which was good except the bread was overly toasted. It was so hard and when you bit into it because it was almost burnt it broke into pieces. We drank our champagne (we rarely drink so we could have done without this) and got our dessert to go. The dessert was VERY sweet and small, I ate it but it took me a long time because I was taking tiny bites. Since moving to BS Ive been looking forward to eating here but I dont know if well be back. My main issues were not being told the price and that the regular menu wouldnt be served, that you had to do the couples dinner. And the waitress wasnt the best for the type of restaurant, atmosphere it is. She was always rushing, I think she was the only waitress because I didnt see anyone else.* Went back on 3/7/20 and got our food to go. My issues today were, I told them I wanted the gravy on the side for my mashed potatoes and it was placed on top of the food. I asked for extra salad dressing on the side and my salad was drowned in dressing making it very wilted. And I got no condiments or plastic ware with our to go order. I barely got any salad, the plate it was almost empty. Definitely not with the price they charge. I can now say that we will never go back here again.

Great job of restoring this hotel. These Grand hotels built in the early 20th century show the pride and economic power that these West Texas towns had. Sadly their grand opulence also led to their demise as decades and times changed. Too many of these hotels have fallen by the wayside and have become run down dinosaurs in other rual cities of Texas. Fantastic job to Big Springs and developers that brought this grand old lady back to her rightful place in history.

We had no idea what that meant from the description of the room on the website. I would say if they remodeled this room it was done years ago. The bathroom sink was unusable. I had to wash my face and brush my teeth in the bathtub. If we had been planing to stay more than one night, we would have changed rooms. The next morning before leaving we had breakfast in their dining room. The first thing the wait person said is we are out of bacon. It was 8:15!
