I live in Santa Cruz, and had a photoshoot up in San Francisco this past weekend. I found Tamra-Marie Artistry by typing in best Black makeup artists in San Francisco. Thank goodness for Google. I hit the jackpot. After the heaviness of the past year, I wanted a look that represented how Im coming back out into the world. Unapologetic, bold, and a PROUD Black woman. It was also very important to me to support Black businesses with this shoot.The 4 words I had in mind were Afro futuristic, Afrocentric, Afro punk. And superhero. I sent Tamra various photos of makeup inspiration, but when I met her the day of the shoot, knew I could trust her expertise. She went to work, and when she was finished, she handed me a mirror, and... MAAAAAAJOR!!!That day in the city ended up being really cold, and foggy. (Surprise, surprise ) My makeup stayed flawless, and I felt FABULOUS. Strangers were stopping me on the street to say that I looked gorgeous. Tam is an amazing artist! I am very particular with my make up because I know EXACTLY what I like and dislike. I saw some of Tams work online and booked her without a trial - I had a feeling shed be an amazing fit with the natural look I was going for. And I LOVED my make up. It was a collaborative process, which was very important to me. I looked in the mirror throughout and together we decided on the eyeshadow colors for my skin tone. Tamra did my makeup for my first every professional photo and film and video shoot. She made me feel comfortable every step of the way, even finding workarounds when I would be embarrassed that I cant wear eyeliner without my eyes twitching, for example.
