Like other parents with neuro-challenged children, we have spent most of our sons life trying to find someone to recognize the beauty in our unique child. Sarah is like no other professional we have consulted in over 20 years.Sarah loves our son. That says it all.Immediately upon meeting Wil, Sarah understood his needs. I mean, IMMEDIATELY! That is testimony to her experience and God-given insight into the neurodiverse population. Wil had tried another program, a group that it is great for those with less extensive needs, Im sure, but I never, ever felt like they really understood our son. He certainly learned new skills there, for which we are thankful. However, he was getting freakier socially (parents of challenged kids get what Im saying, right?), and was so stressed out that his fragile health was tanking. It took us 15 months to finally decide that it just wasnt the right place for our son.Enter Sarah. Providentially, she was just opening Portland House. Wil has been living in that beautiful home for almost a month now. What a difference! So much support, so much Community -- a word and concept that Sarah constantly uses to tremendous advantage. Everyone in that house is invested in the all the others, wanting to see success in all. Those freaky behaviors are challenged lovingly, rather like in a family but even better for a kid that is aware that others his age dont normally live with their parents anymore.Today, Wil has a long road ahead but he isnt forging his way alone anymore. He even looks physically healthier already as everyone at Portland House (Sarah, therapists, mentors and even other students) all help with loving concern and support. He is learning new skills, working on his education, and starting a part-time job... all done with the exceptional oversight of Sarah. Cannot wait to see what a few more months will bring.So grateful for Sarah!
