SSC decided that they will refuse to pick up our recycle. You know, the recycle that they then sell for another revenue stream. Youd think theyd want all the recycle they can get. There should be no monopolies allowed in this industry. I should have the choice to use another garbage vendor. I wouldnt recommend this service if they were the last garbage company on earth.

In addition, their support of local non-profits over the years has certainly made life easier/better for many. The SSC website allowed a smooth transition to paperless billing and autopay. That we can not close is because there isnt room to do so.and the birds come to eat from it and make a Mas that is beside the rain full it.l calledTo remind to tell the employee to close the led after empty the garbage. Ive been using SSC for the past 8 years. Their office staff are professional and friendly. Their garbage and recycling collectors are hard working and reliable. When Im not home on my garbage day, all it takes is a phone call. They can reschedule it for the next time the truck comes back into the neighborhood, which is usually the following week. Its free, and they are happy to make such an arrangement. Im sorry if you had issues with SCC, but my experience with them has been great. Thanks!

We love our garbage driver! Don is the best...so friendly and goes the extra mile. We had a new baby recently and a couple times over the last year weve forgotten to put out the garbage and he is always so helpful. Hell do a reminder honk and if we dont respond hell grab our garbage from the front of the house a bring it out to the road. I forgot to coordinate someone to do this for us while we were on vacation and he did the same this morning. We are so lucky to have such a thoughtful, hard working driver in our area. Don needs a raise and a bonus!

Polite and patient customer service agents are the reason there are 3 stars.If it werent for them it would be even lower.I have lived many places but the system this company has for recycling is by far the most absurd to me.Everywhere else Ive lived the local companies have provided a rolling cart for recyclables, identical to the trash carts but a different color. That was even in states where it doesnt rain that often.Here there are multiple buckets that have to be carried to and from the road and are wide open to fill with gross rainwater if you dont have a garage. The system they have laid out on their website is so convoluted with so many caveats that its almost too annoying to read. (These items go in this bin, unless you have this specific item in which case it goes on the ground next to this bin, here are exact measurements your cardboard must be, we dont care about picking up soggy cardboard and we dont care that you have to carry soggy cardboard to the curb).They claim that they cant legally provide a rolling cart for recycling but my in-laws just down in Arlington have one through their local trash company and so do more relatives in Tulalip.I would be happy, no, thrilled, to pay more money each month to have a full size cart to roll out to the curb.

Giving businesses no viable way to control what goes in and out of their trash cans, even after years of proposing new options and communicating the issue, and then trying to force small local businesses to pay for for services they did not approve, is extortion, plain and simple. When we use pad locks, people break the dumpsters to get into them, so they asked us to stop locking them. Now they are asking us to pay more because people will throw all of the cardboard in the recycling and all of the recycling in the garbage to rummage through it. It is not safe for me or my employees to have to go through it as the bags get completely torn apart. We have been communicating the issue for years and have even offered to pay more for a better service, but they dont want to invest in better equipment, so extortion it is.Really shows how performative that is, Ive been trying to get this figured out for YEARS, and you think you can just come in and demand to speak with someone without making an appointment prior, or even calling first, youre also asking someone to authorize payments who doesnt have that authorization, and we are waiting for the business owner to personally contact you, Im writing this as a concerned citizen, as my boss would just pay for it, we havent been hit nearly as some businesses during COVID and I can only imagine what youre doing to people who cant or wont stick up for themselves.

I found their website very user friendly and easy to navigate. All the information needed is readily available. I filled out their start a service form and was promptly reached via email by Amanda Gilder, a customer service representative. She was knowledgeable, professional and quickly started our trash and recycling service. Amanda also explained the steps to set up online bill paying without making me feel silly for having to make sure that was an option. Thanks for your efficiency Amanda!

Update:After I posted something online about the horrible service, I got a phone call asking me to change my review because they went out their way to come out on a Saturday to pickup what was supposed to be picked up the day before. Sure ONE time they came the next day. What about the one the other 11 times? Not only dont they normally come back to get what they missed, but some times I have to wait a whole other two weeks to get the recycling picked up again. And I am not credited for the weeks missed. Sorry, but one time of coming back a day late doesnt make up for a year of missed days, or a manager who wont take responsibility for his employees horrible work.Original review:We are now up to 12 times in one year of having our street missed. The manager I tried to talk to is worthless and completely blew me off when I tried to complain to someone other than customer service. No one will take care of the problem. And have never been given any credits either.

We’ve been “receiving” service from this company since august. They were spotty about picking up our bin, and it wasn’t until January that they informed us we were only on bi-weekly garbage pickup. Even after we have called, AND PAID, for weekly garbage, they skip us at least two weeks out of the month. Our bin is perfectly accessible.When called to send out an extra truck to fix their mistake, customer service lied to me, saying a truck would be sent out, and never followed through.

Always get good service from SSC. Been a customer for many years (not a lot of choices) but on the rare occasion I want to make a change, or get an extra tote for a while, they are always on top of it. Email works better than calling, and is usually easier.I always feel bad for the folks that have to work on holidays.

Missed pickup on my scheduled day and when I called they said that the driver picked it up (time stamp) and it must of had stuff jammed in it preventing the pickup. I assured them it was not as I was standing next to the can and nothing had moved from when I put it in.They offed to pickup the following monday as all the drivers had gone home. I said that was fine but I wanted a credit on my account for a missed pickup. They said they cant do that and only can offer a late one. Only when I went to the office and showed the lady that i had video footage of the garbage can not being picked up at the time thed said did they change their minds and had somebody sent over to grab it. Absolutely zero customer support/appreciation. Wish there was another option.

If I could choose no stars I would. I’ve never had such issues with garbage pick up! I mean for goodness sake it’s GARBAGE!!A little ridiculous we have to sort them all to begin with in separate containers, but whatever. The fact they assign specific colors to certain recyclables is another thing, again whatever.I’ve had the recycle guy skip us two weeks in a row and one of the times it was COMPLETELY SORTED!I let it go, whatever. The next week he didn’t pick it up because heaven for big I had two glass bottles mixed in with the cardboard 🤦🏼‍♀️Okay that’s my bad, although I think a bit much that he couldn’t just look past that one and grab it out..Then TWICE has he not picked up my tv Box and just threw it to the side of the trash. Really?!. I didn’t know I paid for the services to take what and when he chooses. I wish we had other trash options..

We needed help with picking up some extra garbage after a big move. I was able to call and spoke with Pam who was extremely helpful! They were able to pick up the trash and even didnt mind walking up to the garage to garb it for us. Really was a life saver and appreciated them going the extra mile!

My trash/recycling pick up every other week has been great! But when you call in because you are having a problem with paying your bill online you better get ready to deal with rude employees! I won’t blast her name online but WOW!! I’ve never ran into a problem with paying my bill online before but the one time I do I was told she’s putting a note in the system saying they can never take my payment over the phone again. That’s absolutely ridiculous!

Office receptionists don’t know what they are doing. Set me up for the wrong day of the week. Had to call back and get it fixed. 3 weeks later I still don’t have my cans however my first bill showed up. What am I being billed for? I haven’t even used the service.This is why I canceled my services with them in the past. Driver wouldn’t pick up my trash and my trash schedule was constantly changed without my approval or knowledge. I am beyond fed up. If I had another option for garbage in town I would go that rout. I previously left a pretty tough review spelling out my disappointment with what I considered some concerning service issues. The company owner called me personally to follow up as a result of my review. While initially a little disconcerting to receive a call at home, I appreciated the opportunity to discuss my concerns directly with someone who so clearly cares about the reputation of their business. He lent more perspective to the situation and allowed me to clarify specific points of concern that I had. While we may not agree on every point, the end result was a greater understanding of the situation for both.

This morning I completely forgot to put our trash out due to having a sick toddler all night and saw the driver drive past my house. I called right when they opened and Sarah was so nice and understanding and said to put the trash across the street and the driver would pick it up. Of course I missed the driver again, but he was nice enough to turn around and pick it up. Overall good service however front desk staff could be a little more courteous.rented a large dumpster for my construction project.today I called them in the morning to pick it up. They said they cant pick it up today because they are running on overtime. They will pick it up tomorrow and charge me an extra day rental fee.Asked a hypothetical question : what if you cant pick it up for three days? the answer was : we would charge you an extra three days rental feecompared to the total charge this is not a large amount however as a matter of principal this is not very good customer service. Overtime is not a good reason to charge the customer extra.

I have been a long time customer and have nothing but good things to say about the service and the people I have dealt with in person and over the phone. I have called for a pick-up schedule for the last couple years and they sent me one right away. They even took the time to highlight my specific days to make it easier. I called last week to get this years schedule sent to me and Sarah answered the phone. She was the friendliest person I have ever dealt with in all the times I have called a customer service number or place of business. I wish I would get someone on the phone like her every time I called a customer service number. I gotta say she put a big smile on my face. So if the owner does read this review I think Sarah deserves a little something extra in her paycheck. Keep up the good work SSC, you guys are great!!

Absolutely fantastic. My driver is fantastic, and even when I am not picked up due to weather ect, they are always willing to let me put out extra the next time. Some of these reviews are just absurd and I felt like I just had to say something. Garbage trucks cannot do pickups when the mailman can because garbage trucks are heavier. If one starts sliding, it is unstoppable. Its common sense. Even a FedEx truck or UPS truck is not the same as a garbage truck. A garbage truck, specially one full of garbage is WAY heavier.

My review is based solely upon the use of SSCs compost bin at a venue; I did not deal with any staff. However, I found their services very helpful at making my recent event in Bellingham, WA nearly zero-waste. What SSC is able to compost is very extensive, making them ideal for large workshop events where disposables are very difficult to avoid. Thank you for all that youre doing to protect the planet. Theyre awful. If you miss a payment because youre on autopay and your card changes your service just stops. They cant be bothered to pick up a phone or send an email. Recycling is a headache. They only pick up my cardboard a third of the time, the rest of the time they leave a little tag that it is required to be flatted. Its always flatted, they just choose not to pick it up. When its snowy and service is suspended you are still charged.

The service just keeps getting worse and worse here in Whatcom county. The company seriously needs to consider new management which I have suggested in my letter to corporate headquarters. So many issues with company its unreal. To top it now they wont accept credit card card payments over the phone. Their company culture clearly does not understand the value of the customer.

Im a 20-year customer of SSC. I find their service to be reliable, the drivers are very courteous and the dispatchers are very helpful and accommodating. Ive called multiple times to change my service or request a extra or return pick up (when Im late getting the bins out). They never fail to be prompt, kind and accurate.

Unbelievably poor service. The lady on the phone tells me to put my garbage out on a certain week and the drivers think its a different week! My garbage has been missed repeatedly because of their mistakes.I have called numerous times to get this figured out. Its not rocket science, I wish they would just coordinate! If there were another option for service, I would definitely switch. Ive tried so many times to talk to their customer service on the phone and they always make me feel like Im doing something wrong!!! Get it together!

Ive been a SSC customer for 17 years and have always had excellent service. The phone is usually answered on the first ring, the customer service is polite and efficient, they have never missed a pickup (except once due to snow when they picked it up the next business day), the empty bins are stacked in a tidy way, and the billing is accurate. I think their prices are also quite reasonable. Yes it is a monopoly, as garbage service usually is, but fortunately SSC does a great job.

Visited their transfer station today and if I could give them less than one star I would. Very unprofessional. The girl hovered over us as we unloaded (really not sure why). They cant even accept credit cards at the location. She had to call someone and read my cc number over the phone. Very 19th century. In the end she almost seemed suprised that the cc card cleared. Yet another awful expierence with this garbage copmany. Sparatic pick ups, shifty reasons on why stuff wont get picked up one cycle but will the next. The kind staff may elude you into thinking the problem will be fixed but it is a kind voice to and ugly company that acts like you need them way more than they need you and they will pick up your trash if they get around to it. Poor costumer service. I missed a pick up day and called to request to get my garbage picked up the following week. I mistakenly said 3619 instead of 3619.5 (which is a mother-in-law house to the 3619 place...2 different places). I corrected myself and the lady rudely said I know. I was like Oh...well how? She then said Start False (my name is Stuart Fales) at 2619.5 (blank) avenue, gotcha in a rude tone...of course since she fed me the wrong info I replied with You mean 3619.5, right? She then repeated it correctly, but this time talking as if I am complete retard. I angrily told her Well I dont know what you know. (Cause any person with common sense would know that nobody can read minds)....then there was an awkward silence...I then asked if my garbage was being picked up at my address (I repeated it once more to be sure) and she replied yes...I hung up...this along with a few other idiotic moments on their end gives them an undeserved 2 stars...cause Im nice like that. Wish there was a better company to go through...it would make bank........oh, and I like how the owner only replies to the people who rated them 5 stars, people who have been with the company many years and probably know the owner...who cares about the people who rate them poorly, right? Get your quote in writing. Called and received a quote for a four yard, daily rental, delivery, pickup, for a total of $89.00 prepaid.They delivered it and parked it backwards. I spent twenty minutes turning it myself. Would make sense to have the opening toward the house, not the street to work smarter, not harder.Called after they picked it up Monday. Was told all was great, $89.00 and no extra charges.Got a bill today...$10.00 over the quote. Called and received the This is what it is. How very rude. Your agents give wrong information MORE than once and I pay the price. I asked for management...same answer...screw you. This is why I dont carry garbage service. So much cheaper to make a run out to slater. What a great dump. Have been a business partner with sanitary service for a very long time. Tis a shame they dont know how to treat long term customers. After a lovely morning of picking up trash I sit here watching the bits i missed blowing around my driveway thinking it seems so simple!...pay money for a service, company renders service.. right? WRONG. In all the places Ive lived I have never ever had to call my garbage service more than once (to set up the account) well not SSC! Im on the phone WEEKLY!! And get nowhere.. my garbage basically only gets picked up once a month on a random week. Thank you so much for your lack of consern SSC! Love paying for nothing! Despite his lack of even a simple apology and the fact that he felt the need to point out that ONCE I put my garbage out on the wrong day back in March of last year. They are quick to ask for payment or remind you that you are late but do not care if you have to wait for your pick up or could careless if you have to wait a week or so. When you call about a non pick up they can not tell you if they will pick up the next day or what. They tell you due to weather which I can understand but do not make an effort to get there later. They just say leave the garbage on the street without providing any information. I had one lady in their office tell me to read the contract they do not have to pick up until next pick up cycle.It seem the mail is delivered as well as fedx and UPS I quess they understand service not SSC.This is the problem when you have no competition because they dont have to provide service. I am a frustrated customer still waiting with my neighbors to see if we get a pick up or another excuse.

Does not communicate with customers when they decide not to pick up recycling for a month, because they say the roads arent good enough (even though the propane trucks and FedEx have no issues). You have to call them to find out whats happening every time. Has a horrible recycling system with tiny bins that every other community did away with over a decade ago in favor of one large bin, but with SSC you still have to sort and separate. They give you a huge trash can and tiny recycling and only pick up recycling every week, making it hard to recycle.

Sanitary Service Company is an atrocious company. Unfortunately, they run a monopoly here in Bellingham so they could care less about what they do for their customers. In fact, my auto pay credit card expired and they sent me a warning message saying that it is unlawful not to pay for their service. Why not just say, your auto pay credit card needs to be updated? On top of that, they probably will tack on a late fee which isnt that big of a deal but it just adds fuel to the fire. I also had one paper bag in my recycling bin (with glass and plastic in it) and ALL of my recycling was refused. I was just keeping it off of the ground because the ground was wet and I could care less if you feel like I should have put it in the right recycling bin. Its full of newspaper! It wouldnt cost you any more time to A) grab the paper bag and recycle it with your mixed papers and B) place the rest of the recycling in your glass and plastics. SSC is definitely one of Bellinghams worst companies. I wish there were another company around to compete with them.

SSC drivers and admin are great. Drivers do a good job putting things in place after a pick-up. Im not exaggerating when I say that SSC administrative services are always super curteous and most times outright chipper and friendly, and when we forget to put our garbage out (we have once a month service), they are always flexible - and with no complaint and no charge, they let us reschedule for the same day the next week. Its strange to read reviews of SSC not answering the phone and being grumps. Over 20+ years, Ive never had that experience

Im very frustrated with Sanitary Service and their attitude towards customers. Ive lived in my home for 12 years and have never had any trouble with recycling trucks driving through the alley to retrieve my recycling. However, recently SSC has been complaining about trees growing into the alley and blocking access. I (and my neighbors) have worked to trim back trees to allow better access. We continue to have a conversation with SSC about alley access and have worked to come to a solution. Then, as I watched from my window, a SSC driver passed through the alley twice, intentionally running through trees and destroying plants that line my property. Sadly, there is no other option for recycling service in this town, so were stuck with SSC.

S.d. Ferndale I was refused service for recycling because I did not use their bins...I had not been usingtheir bins for a long time, mine were stolen! My neighbors dont all use their bins and theirs ispicked up! When I refused to buy bins, they have stopped picking up my recycling..but guess whatI still have to pay and am being charged 13.20 a month, thats 158.40 a year for something now Idont use...I used to like Sanitary Service...blah to them now...and I still refuse to buy their bins!We have a business in Bellingham too...and if there was a way or another business to take our garbageI would do that...but the ol monopoly exists for us all...thanks!

Moved to Bellingham at the beginning of the month and set up garbage and recycling with SSC the first week I moved in. Ive made my payment and this is the second week in a row that their trucks have driven past my house with out stopping. What do I even pay this company for?

Terrible customer service. If they miss a pickup they bill you for it and dont make an effort to come out and make a pickup until the next time around. Even if it is biweekly service like recycling. So it will be 4 weeks between recycling pickup.

They see fit to charge people even if they dont do their job yet there are no alternatives and you are legally required to use them. This is the definition of a monopoly and I dont understand how it is legal
