The place I’m renting is fine, the real problem is the office employees. They are completely non-responsive. You could send a hundred emails or make a thousand calls, but you’ll never get any response or help. They leave their voicemail full so you can’t even leave a message. Completely unprofessional, the worst company I’ve rented from in town.

Apex Property Management is wonderful! Ive read a ton of negative reviews and I completely disagree. Most of the negative comments seem to be related to the type of tenant that these commenters are. If you are a good tenant and obey the rules that you agreed to when you signed your lease, you will not have any issues!Apex is super responsive and always very polite when Ive needed to reach out. The application process was smooth and the representative that I spoke to while applying was nothing but kind and patient (Selena, I think). My main interactions were with the maintenance team (Erica and Nicole). I lived in one of Apexs older complexes, so naturally it had more maintenance issues than a typical apartment would. The maintenance crew was ultra quick at getting my issues addressed and were very funny/nice when I had to call in. They would troubleshoot with me and walk me through various potential easy fixes before sending out a technician. I REALLY liked this given that I was able to fix my own maintenance issues a few times by resetting GFCI outlets instead of having to wait for a technician to be scheduled to complete such an easy repair. When I moved out, I was treated very fairly. I didnt have much time to clean and was only charged for 5 hours of cleaning by their crew (thought it was going to be a lot more). I did have a question about the paint charges and their accountant was patient enough to explain the charges to me in quite a bit of detail (made complete sense after hearing the explanation). I received about 1/3 of my deposit back, which again is very fair given the state of my unit.Overall, Apex is a wonderful company to rent from. Definitely the best in Bellingham!

Super yucky and disappointing. Im embarrassed about how far I allowed myself to get involved with potentially renting through Apex. Please spare yourself from my situation and just go with another company. The staff I worked with failed to answer critical questions about the unit and parking, especially considering that I wasnt allowed to see the unit I was approved for. Dont make my mistakes and go with another company.

Apex property does not maintain or do any sort of upkeep with appliances(before renting out) and if they are broken you will be charged, despite Apexs lack of actual maintenance before renting. We moved our washer/dryer unit and it is evident that they did not do any sort of upkeep with them after renters move out. The fridge is also, very much, the same. Due to inadequate maintenance it leaks.Very apparent they havent maintained these appliances for YEARS.Edit: asked when we were gonna get our washing machine fixed, was told friday.Just got a call that they maintenance people are coming in today(monday)Also id like to comment on the rude call i got from an apex employee, that was beyond rude and uncalled for. Yall need to get it together, being rude to customers isnt professional, and honestly these bad points are increasing with every interactionAlso this is just a complaint on the general size of the apartment, a full bed doesnt fit in out one bedroom. Keep that in mind if you are a couple trying to rent from these slum lords. I highly recommend you go else where for housing.Between lack of maintenance, poor customer service and communications, high rent for low footage, it really isnt worth it.

My experience was mostly positive. Applying and moving in was smooth enough. Rent was a good price at the time at 850 for a two bedroom. We resigned for a second year at just short of 900$ a month. They also extended the lease as requested so we wouldnt have to move out before classes were finished. Over the second year they remolded the outside of the apartment putting a new roof on it, painting it, adding additional lighting to the parking lot, and new windows. While we did get the benefit of a nicer area, constantly having to street park while construction was going on was a hassle.coming up on the third year the rent was going to increase to 1200$ a month. Understandable I guess as they probably just spent a ton on remodeling but still too big of a jump to make it worth staying as there is cheaper living situations around. For deposit return we lost 335 of our deposit. 135 of that was carpet cleaning that is part of the lease and the 200 was listed as cleaning at 50$/hour. While we did clean the place as well as we could there was a poster sized mark on one wall we couldnt get off so Im assuming thats what the cleaning was for.Lastly, they were pretty good about any broken appliances such as the fridge or washer machine and they fixed both within the week if not a few days.

Just moved into our new townhouse this week. There were some little things around the place that needed repairs but because it’s brand new I kind of expected that- and the staff quickly responded and scheduled maintenance on them. I haven’t had much conversation with the staff other than that but my husband said everyone in the office was helpful and gave him advise for a swift and painless move in. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous.

STEER CLEAR OF THIS TRAP. First, right away I noticed an alarming number of large carpenter ants (hundreds) in the apartment the first day I showed up when the apartment was clean and vacant. The arent the type of ants that come when you leave a mess, these are the type that eat wood and other materials. I promptly notified the maintenance staff through the online portal. I heard nothing for a couple weeks. I work a late shift and sleep in the am. 2 weeks later I received a text from the maintenance person at 6am (I was sleeping as well a lot of people would be) and his message was insinuating that it was because I was messy that the ants were there, even though I was clear they were there when the clean apartment was vacant and what type of ants they were. The txt also requested pictures and said I should clean the apartment. By 7am (1 hour after the 1st message, and 2 wks after my maint. request, & I was still sleeping) I received another txt that said the maintenance request was cancelled because I did not reply or show proof. I WAS GIVEN ONE HOUR, VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING, AFTER WAITING 2 WEEKS. Carin (the apt manager) would send very rude messages to all the tenants after several voiced concern over mail packages being stolen on a regular basis. Carin basically said oh well, go pick them up at the carrier. Ive rented for 20 years around the country and have never met a more unprofessional staff. I wrote back with some possible options to better secure our packages for us and she wrote me back a nasty text telling me to back off. Another incident was when I slowly went around another vehicle on some speed bumps in the entrance to the complex. I thought the vehicle was stopping as it was barely moving so I slowly went around (there is a 10mph speed limit) I was going maybe 8mph with a couple friends with me. I backed into my parking spot when all the sudden a white suv swooped in and blocked my vehicle, effectively false imprisoning me. A woman gets out and approached my drivers side door in an aggressive manner. I step halfway out of my vehicle (because clearly she was aggressive and I didnt know her intentions) and I ask her how I can help her. She said that she was the apartment manager and I was going too fast through the parking lot (apparently she was the vehicle slowly creeping over the speed bump). Thats when I realized that this was the infamous Carin (we had never met before). I told her I was uncomfortable with her blocking in my vehicle and coming at me aggressively. She barked at me all the while my friends were sitting in my vehicle just blown away at her lack of decency and professionalism. She threatened that she could fine me on my next rent payment. I knew this was the last straw. I immediately drove to the APEX corporate building in Bellingham and requested a sit down with somebody in charge. I had to tell her boss about all of these things. The last reason I would say to never live in this complex or rent from any APEX property is because they absolutely burgled my security deposit. I definitely expected them to keep a solid chunk of the deposit because I could just tell in the short time I lived there that APEX and The Meadows have no real character and I knew they would gouge what they could. WOW, I could not know just how much they would embezzle from my deposit. When I left this apartment it was in great shape. I had 3-4 holes in the wall just from hanging things and every other apartment I have lived in across the country considers that normal wear and tear, not APEX. The apartment was a ONE BEDROOM apartment and they charged me 7.5 hours at $40/hr to clean it. Even if the place was trashed (and it was not) you could not spend that long cleaning that place. I definitely expected them to charge me a few hours because most places do even if you spend days cleaning it yourself but wow. They even charged me $5 for smoke alarm batteries. When I was there 3 days before the lease ended the batteries were fine. Dumbfounded. They robbed me of $530. incredible.

Apex is the worst company Ive ever rented from. Ive been a renter in Bellingham for over 7 years and never had so many problems. First, we got complaints for have one person over and being too loud during daylight hours. And when our truck got broken into and the APEX parking pass was stolen, they charged us $50 for getting a new parking pass. We were also told that if we were unwilling to pay, they would tow us. Then when I tried to get out of my renewal, they wouldnt work with me at all. I gave them 30 days notice and was even willing to pay the $250 fee. They told me I was responsible for finding a new tenant and handling the whole situation. This is not the tenants responsibility if 30 notice was given! DO NOT RENT WITH APEX!

Ive had a consistent and positive experience renting an apartment from Apex for over five years. Most of the complaints appear to be from tenants that choose not to abide by the terms of the lease they signed or take responsibility for the condition they left their unit in. I have rented my studio apartment in Bellingham from Apex for the past year and a half. Paying rent and communicating with Apex is easy and I find the staff helpful. The rent is a bit more than what I would ideally like to pay, but I have my own washer/dryer, dishwasher, my apartment is clean with newer carpet, and there is always parking at my complex. I am moving before my lease is over, and it has been easy to recommend an approved individual to take over my lease. Very pleased with my overall experience with Apex.

The fire alarm was broken when we moved in around July. It stayed broken and beeping non stop for around 3 days before somebody came to fix it. Recently we had somebody, we assume a previous renter who copied the key, breaking into our home and stealing small things. After the police were called, a report was filed (Apex was made aware of the situation), and my roommate/I had many scared nights sleeping near eachother worried that somebody would break in and harm us we asked that the locks get changed. We found out that the locks had not only not been changed between us and previous renters, but that we would also be charged an additional $110 for new locks. The people in the office are nice enough but I just wish the actual owners cared about the people living in their appartments.

You need two entry-level incomes to be able to afford a studio. The deposit is ridiculously large and added fees are found everywhere. We had a large leak in our closet, maintenance crew ripped a hole in the ceiling which took MONTHS for them to patch back up. Apex has caused so much stress in our lives. Please find jobs worthy of your skill that isnt screwing over people trying the best they can to balance school and work. Also.. dry, dead grass does not need yard maintenance every week. Absolutely terrible property management company that makes their living by taking advantage of poor college kids who have no experience or knowledge of workers rights. Rented with them and was lied to about the subletting process by multiple people. They basically told me that it would be much simpler than it was, then I got close to moving out and was blindsided with hoops to jump through and ended up having to pay insane fines. Moved and signed with another company in Bellingham to get away from Apex and they took that property over within a week of me signing my lease. During that process they lost all the lease information for one of my roommates and tried making her pay the security deposit again. When I called to complain about this I was transferred from Chris (who is actually a decent guy) to Phil Maxwell, the owner. Phil took it upon himself to verbally assault me. He called me a bad person multiple times, told me I needed to get the hell out of his property and many other awful things. I was in tears by the end of the conversation. I had never been treated like that before. But there is no accountability because it is his business. I just hope that enough people read these awful reviews and STAY AWAY from Apex.

One of the best if not the best management company in Bellingham. Ive rented from them for about a year now and it has been great. Any maintenance issues are usually taken care of very quickly and when you compare to the other companies in Bham their properties are the cleanest and best kept. Ive looked at units through every other major company in town and they are not held to the same standard. It genuinely confuses me that there are people who are posting these awful reviews about them. My roommate and I have recently found ourselves in a strange situation and are needing to move out before our lease actually ends. Weve spent a good amount of time in their office during their PEAK season and they were very patient with us and took time out of their day to explain our options to us. Yes, there were fees to pay but we were going back on our agreement with them and thats why. It seems like a lot of people dont understand that a lease is a legal agreement and if you do something against that agreement there of course will be fees. Youre causing extra work and a possible loss of money for them. They have been nothing but honest and straightforward with us and thats all we can ask. If you dont believe the review simply stop in and look at one of their units. The staff will gladly answer questions and help you with the application and move in process.

If you are considering renting from Apex Property Management I HIGHLY advise that you dont. I have never written a review for any other company or service before, but I was just so outraged at the poor service I received from this company that I truly felt the need to make others aware. If you do decide to rent from Apex, dont say I never warned you. I can guarantee you will be expected to pay numerous outrageous fees, and dont even bother trying to argue any of these fees with customer service, they honestly will not care one bit about what you have to say. I was told I needed to pay a $300+ fee for my pet. I went into the office to physically pay this fee, as well as the current months rent AND my pro-rated last months rent. I wanted to pay it all off at once and have it be a done deal. Over a month later, I get an email saying that I STILL owe more money. I called customer service where I was lucky enough to sit on the phone and literally argue with their customer service rep, Dave. He told me that the confusion was my fault and that I misunderstood what their paperwork stated. He even decided to get so particular and rude as to let me know that their statement, the one that I supposedly misunderstood, was punctuated correctly. I noted that in fact it was not, and he shot back with, You wouldnt even put a comma in that spot.... So much for customer service. I asked to speak with a different individual and he, just like Dave, wasnt much of a customer service rep either. Both men simply argued with me the entire time. On top of all of this, we had scheduled a time for the management company to send someone out to test our carpet for pet stains. I had to work, so I had another individual waiting at the apartment for the service. Over an hour after the stated window of time that the service was supposed to occur had passed, I called Apex and asked why someone had not arrived at my apartment and told them that I had someone waiting there. I asked about the UV pet urine testing and how they would know whether or not the stains were from me or the previous tenant and all Dave had to say was that there werent pets in the apartment before we had moved in. Well, when I walked through the apartment with someone from Apex before signing the lease, there was a cat food and water dishes in the kitchen, yet all the pet stains are expected to be from me... After arguing AGAIN with Dave, he called their serviceman and called me back stating that the service provider was, called to an emergency, but that he would be arriving within the next thirty minutes. No one bothered to call and let us know that we would have to wait OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF later than we were told. Apex is a completely unprofessional company with extremely rude customer service employees. If you want nothing but headaches, then Apex sounds like it will work out just perfectly for you.

I was physically threatened and yelled at by Phil, Apex’s owner. I have been called by the wrong name multiple times, I have been misgendered, and my overall liberties have not been recognized. Multiple civil rights laws and addendums have been either ignorantly not been recognized, or have been altogether done away with. Most recently, I went in to the office to resolve issues surrounding my rent, and the conversation turned quickly sour. I remained calm and offered suggestions, but Phil raised his voice and became undeniably patronizing and conflamatory. He ended our conversation by yelling at me to get out of his office and claimed I wasted 10 minutes of his life that he will never get back. After following me to my car, all the while still yelling at me, he called the police because I couldn’t leave Apex’s premises (my car wouldn’t start, and I had to call AAA, my insurance company). A cop arrived and saw no problem with my car not being able to start and gave me permission to stay in the lot until my car was towed; the officer was almost exasperated at Apex for having been called for such a minor occurrence. The rent issue eventually was resolved after nearly 2 weeks of back-and-forth games with the property, but I still feel disrespected and debased. I am actively looking for legal assistance, because I and other tenants continue to be taken advantage of by Apex Property Management. Next time I have any correspondence with Apex Property or with their affiliates (including maintenance), I will be recording everything that is said for the use of the public. They threatened to tow one of our cars because it Didnt run. She magically made this deduction without even looking under the hood. MAGIC! Even though it had a parking pass displayed.Have a problem with something in your apartment you want fixed? FORGET ABOUT IT. We submitted multiple maintenance requests only for them to come back and tell us that it was fine the way it was or that they will get around to it. When they finally do get around to it, the maintenance is extremely rude/racist and will make fun of any personal decorations you display regarding your heritage. But I rented a Remodeled unit from Apex so I should be fine right? WRONG. Thats what we thought until we pulled out a 3 foot black hair snake from the girls that lived in the apartment before us. The oven didnt work when we moved in, the washing machine and dishwasher stops halfway through the cycle but according to apex that is Operating Properly. Same with the bathroom fan that vents so pitifully that the run of the mill fart is a formidable opponent which it cannot vanquish. This has lead to a buildup of mold (Which we must scrub regularly). But by apex standards as long as the switch turns on and there is a noise, its fine.We are moving out here in two weeks and I am already preparing for the legal battle I am going to have to go through with apex in order to get my security deposit back. The good part first, I had a concern today that someone in the office was really helpful about. Erika is her name, one of the maintenance coordinators. She was polite, helpful and Im grateful she was willing to accommodate the abnormal request I was making. Overall Apex has been ok to deal with, it has just been a mixed bag depending on who Ive talked to.Besides that, I have several complaints (such as too-small parking spaces, excess fees and rent going up substantially with every lease renewal) but possibly the worst of all is the noise from the landscaping crews! These apartments are hardly insulated and offer almost no soundproof, so we hear every car entering the parking lot, etc. So when the leaf blowers, weed whackers and lawn mowers come through, we hear all of it as if it was in our bedroom! This morning we had noise in excess of 2 hours, right outside our unit. Id like to know who the landscaping company is so I can mention it to them as well. My partner and I are on a swing shift/graveyard schedule, so we need to sleep during the morning and early afternoon hours. Today, the maintenance crews are here on a Wednesday instead of their usual Thursday, they explained that the property owners will be there later, so theyre doing some touch-up work. This is not the first time theyve been here multiple times in a week, but its seriously frustrating not knowing when we will experience this more than once in a week. When alli called to express my concern, all they did to address our noise complaint was make a note of it. It makes me sad to say that, while I feel like moving out just to get a good nights sleep, Im sure they would just replace us with another tenant that they can raise the price on. Half the reason I have a place to live is to have a place to sleep. Youd be upset too if you lost hours of sleep due to a rude awakening by loud, intermittent noise and vibration that you cant block out with earplugs!I understand that theres not a lot that can be done, since the landscaping company has a schedule and the property owner sometimes requests extra maintenance to be done. Its just something that really puts a stress on our living experience and Ive never had to deal with this at any other place Ive ever lived. Its just one of those unpleasant things that I didnt expect and didnt know I was signing up for when we decided to move in. So, now you know. Youve been warned. I guess if I wanted control of the maintenance I could get a better job so I could affordto buy a house and schedule them myself. :P!

(they tried to take my deposit twice and I called them on it) Then, after they approve you and send you forms asking for a holding fee, and you say, wait, I havent seen place yet, they tell you that you have to actually see the place before you apply. But the holding fee $985! is due before the next available appointment to see the place. (and yes, they tell you that many people rent sight unseen. Sorry, not me. ) Then, they tell you that they willl refund your application fee, you can make an appt to see the place, and then re-apply for it. What a circus. As, they said, well, there are a lot of apartments in town. My recommendation: Look at others.

Theyve cornered the apartment market in Bellingham and steadily increase rent, washroom fees, vacate fees, etc. made an online payment to them, but due to a single lower case letter in my last name that is not on my i.d the payment was returned, they then used this as an excuse to charge me rather than help me figure out why this happened.DO NOT RENT FROM THESE CASH FIENDS.Your just another pawn to their monopoly. leaving my lease early because I hate them so much. beware.Parking will also be a constant headache, and your guests will likely be towed for visiting. All they manage is to cost you more money whenever they can.

ABSOLUTELY COUNT ON NOT GETTING YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT BACK!!.They have a relatively captive market in what is a college town. The apartments and rent costs are average. However the management company is very renter unfriendly. By looking at the website and listening to their speech at inquiry and lease signing you are led to believe otherwise. Complaints and issues are given lip service but you are basically on your own. ABSOLUTELY COUNT ON NOT GETTING YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT BACK!!. Even if you leave your apartment in pristine condition, there will be deductions of at least half your deposit (if you are lucky). Count it into your total rental payments and do not anticipate getting it back-period.

Look elsewhere!! Look at all the negative responses about the terrible customer service!! If you are a parent and have college kids looking at renting from APEX- DONT! The APEX owner is horrible, the manager is the worst. Or anyone dont rent from them....Our kids rented a place as they are attending WWU, they put on the application 3-cars, but when they got the rental agreement back and keys, APEX wrote on there only 2-parking passes. The girls talked them and they said they could work it out, otherwise they would have rented another place closer to campus that had parking for 3-cars, some have spots for 4!. Knowing that the girls listed 3-cars you would think APEX would have taken the time and had a conversation to tell them there is no parking for the 3rd car, (they are 18) but their response is, they signed the lease its not our problem!! Yes they signed the lease, but as a business you know this will be an issue wouldnt you want to handle it up front instead of fining college students and making this more stressful than it should be??They talked to the property owner and he gave them permission to park in the gravel lot (at the end of the parking lot), Now APEX is saying they make the rules and they cant park in the gravel lot and fined them $45. The surrounding area is very dark with trees and shrubs, so as a parent I do not want my girls walking down the road in the dark...Again APEX does not care. We talked to another renter and they had to hire an attorney to deal with APEX.They say in their rental agreement: Where parking is limited or by permit only, guest and/or visitors are required to use off-site parking)...funny there is no off-site parking??Again Look elsewhere!!

I wouldnt say this is the best apartment ive ever lived in. but I cant say im too disappointed with it. the staff are usually good at replying to emails and helping when i call the office. they have regularly started to send out maintenance every other week as well which is nice. for the price and location there isnt too much too complain about.there are only 2 things i can think of right away that could use fixing. one being the fact that we have some creaky/buckling floors. However i understand thats a big fix when people are moving and leaving with so little time in between.the second thing being parking. my complex has its own parking area that only has access from 2 side streets, and of course you need a permit to park here. I was told that every unit should be able to have 3 cars to park, but im constantly run into the issue of all the spaces being full and having to park in the lot of another complex, at least its owned by apex, but sometimes that one fills up as well. I know it can be hard to monitor all the parking, but sometimes it feels like whats the point of having permits a tow signs if they arent going to be enforced

I currently lease through apex. My lease terminates on August 31st, 2018. I received a letter from apex demanding that I renew my lease by February 28th or they will begin showing my unit to prospective renters. They are demanding I renew my lease 6 months in advance! If I don’t renew, They will start showing my unit. I have 6 months of random unknown people walking through my apartment. Half a year where the rental agency can demand that I allow them in with total strangers to look through my home. This is the policy of a cold greedy company. Please be aware when renting from them.Additionally, they allow one day a week for maintenance to be done at my building. When there is a maintenance request it has to be scheduled on the one day per week we are allowed.Renting from this company is unpleasant and demeaning. They genuinely treat you as their property. I am currently renting from apex. I absolutely love the look of the apartment I am living in but have had many problems with management company who is the most picky company that I have ever worked with. Ive been renting different apartments for 8 years and never had a complaint, but since moving here I have received complaints for anything from having a small banner on my balcony that was completely pinned down to plants on my deck, and know other neighbors that have had many petty complaints as well. Parking is somewhat full, but there are always at least 10 parking spots in the lot by the end of the night. Even so, theyare not willing to evaluate the situation to figure out whether they are able to sell more spots to those in dire need when there is no street parking or anywhere else to park in the neighborhood. I know a few people that were receiving threats be towed without a solution to obtain any parking. Very frustrating. I could go on complaining about the cheap materials used in building and unresponsiveness of maintenance to fix any issues, but Ill leave it at that. Beautiful area and new apartment, but very unhelpful and rude management. I would like to stay in the same apartment, but will choose to move due to the extra hassle

If you need maintenance on anything in a property rented from Apex, then you are pretty much out of luck. In almost every maintenance issue Ive had with them so far, they either send someone out who will tell you the problem doesnt exist until youve called them out for it two or three times, or they will tell you it isnt their problem because theyre just there to take your money and you should talk with the propertys owner. This last time, I called them a week before about a broken cable socket that kept me from hooking up my internet connection. They marked the maintenance request as solved even though it wasnt, and I never heard back from them. My wife had to order the parts and fix the problem herself. When they finally did get back to me, they just blamed it on the owner of the property. This happened when my garbage disposal was leaking, my toilet was broken and the washing machine flooded our entire apartment. This is not a one time fluke event, and you too will experience this at some point when renting from them.

So far so good! Weve had our eye on an apartment Apex manages since February, and managed to snag it for this year. Have only been with them for a couple weeks, but so far theyre very professional, up front, and easy to work with. Hopefully that continues through the year!2 Month Update: still loving apex, though there are a couple neighbors who leave something to be desired. Smoking on the balconies making my bedroom stink, leaving garbage in the halls, and bringing dogs (no animals at all allowed here) that yowl all night. I bet these are the people who leave bad reviews and complain about unfair charges.10 Month Update: We still love our place, and when the preleasing paperwork came around we got it signed for next year right away! Not only did we not get any deposit back, we had to pay extra. The additional charges were overpriced and exaggerated. I understand having some wear and tear issues, but APEX took advantage of their authority and went to town on any and everything they could charge! As a former landlord, I would be ashamed if I acted like APEX does. By the way, if you ever disobey any rules they have (whether you know about it or not), dont expect a warning. They will fine you anytime and every time they can and add penalties on the fine. They should not be managing college students!! :-(

However their maintenance is appalling. These are all problems that get rid of a basic function of the apartment. Rent someplace else.

Upset, I immediately contacted Julia to see if there had possibly been a mistake because surely 8 hours of cleaning was excessive. Then, I received a phone reply from Phil where I was pleasantly surprised at his customer service and his response that he agreed with me and that he would investigate further with the cleaning company. He immediately called me back the next morning and told me that I would be refunded for half of the cleaning time and refunded for two of the wrongly charged drip pans. Although disappointed that I didnt receive more than half the time back because there wasnt a lot of cleaning that could have been done in my opinion, I am extremely happy with Phil and Apexs response to my concerns and how quickly and graciously it was handled.I was hesitate to sign with Apex because of some bad reviews but I havent had any problem and episodes such as this show that if you reach out, Apex can be very responsive and kind. I am 47 years old and have never written a review of anyone (good or bad) but feel so strongly about Apexs business practices Im writing my first one. DO NOT expect your security deposit back as they nickel and dime you for every little thing. They take everything that is considered normal wear and tear and landlord maintenance and charge it as damage. I rented my unit for 2 years and in my case every tack hole, every smudge on the wall was considered damage and they had to repaint my unit to the tune of $500. Im single, no kids, no pets, dont smoke but yes I hung a few pictures, no more then 2 per wall using approved hardware as per their lease. But now that is considered damage and excessive. I have rented numerous apartments and have always received the entirety of my refundable deposit back. Never have I seen such practices as Apex has for returning deposits. How much does anyone want to bet that the new tenants did not receive a freshly painted unit and those tack holes will be charged to the next unsuspecting tenant as damage as well....

In this email they are threatening to give me a 10 day notice to vacate if it happens again which has fees associated with it. This is just one of a long string of passive aggressive notices Ive received in the year and a half living in one of their units. None of the previous notices were precisely directed at me - but rather, any time any of the tenants commits even the slightest perceived transgression, everyone in the complex gets a letter about it.So what you have here is a company that will GO THROUGH YOUR TRASH, find in the cardboard recycle a plastic bag, probably which was attached to a cardboard box that contained a shipping receipt, and then THREATEN TO EVICT YOU OVER IT after a year and a half of paying rent on time every single month without fail and no other complaints against you. This is by far not the first time Ive heard of them rifling through peoples garbage. Its merely the first time Ive experienced it first hand.Do not rent from these people. There is a REASON their business is across the street from a yard littered with signs that say Boycott Apex.

I rented through Apex for two years and I consider myself to be a very clean person. Apex is the type of company that ill make stuff up and apply random charges to tenants. Not once but four times in my two year tenure I received letters from them which included pictures of my property which they should not had been able to access. The first week I rented through them, and as I was still in the process of moving in, I had left my Lay-z-Boy chair on the back patio for one night. Two days later I recieved a letter saying that I owed them $35 for having indoor furniture as outdoor furniture. The letter included a picture of my backyard which they should not had access too unless they were snooping or trespassing on the property I rightfully rented. When I called about it, they said it devalued the appearance of the dwelling, This made no sense seeing how only us, as tenants could see this furniture. They also tried charging us because the garbage company didnt run on our scheduled garbage day because it snowed, That same day they took a picture of our garbage cans and applied a fee. Another fee came from what they called smoking on our deck, which they had no proof of whatsoever because it never happened. When I called them about it, they changed their story to indoor furniture again, which was a propane tank to our BBQ. At move out of my first dwelling, they claimed it smelled like smoke inside and attempted to apply a $200 charge. When confronted, they said one bedroom in particular mustve belonged to a cigar smoker. That particular bedroom however was vacant for the last 6 months I lived in the house, the door was closed the entire time and the window was left open. When asked why they came up with such outlandish statements, they stated it was because they found one swisher wrapper stuck to the bottom side of the fridge. None of us had ever touched a swisher while we stayed there.

Apex is a horribly ran, disorganized, joke of a property company. I am WARNING YOU NOW - YOU CAN THANK ME LATER. The middle-man, CHRIS FREAS, thinks that he is GOD and interjects himself into everything. However, he really struggles in involving himself with TIMELY PAYMENTS... They like to do things like hold checks, and then attempt to cash them after you move out of town and close your bank account, and then further CHARGE YOU for their inability to process their payments in a timely fashion. Oh, and CHRIS FREAS is also Bellinghams leading parking authority. Dont overstep his authority, or he will come put adhesive stickers on your car that are incredibly hard to scrape off. What is most entertaining is when they make clerical errors, Mr. CHRIS FREAS feels its his liberty to call you on your personal phone, at home, and harass you into paying late fees that occurred on their behalf. If at that point you try to deliberate with him, he will forward you onto accounting in which they will also threaten you. This company is an absolute joke - stay far, far away. CHRIS FREAS also treats his employees horribly, and thats why none of them care to do their jobs properly. Go live in Liberty Park - You will get better service. CHRIS FREAS also likes to argue his dishonest business practices over the internet like a 13 year old child - So we are all looking forward to your response, CHRIS FREAS.
