Im not fond of writing bad reviews but I feel like I need to warn people looking to adopt from this rescue. I found a dog I was looking to adopt back in April and sent in an application. We fit all of the criteria needed to adopt, so I figured there shouldnt be much issue in at least receiving a response back. After 4 weeks of checking spam mail and answering too many spam phone calls hoping for a response, I sent them an email to see what was going on. They told me they had another potential adopter for him that fell through and they would now review my application. My vet was never called. My references were never checked. It is now 13 weeks later and the dog I was interested in adopting is still on their website as available. Ive never experienced a rescue group who doesnt check references and doesnt even respond to adopters. I had left a comment on their Facebook page, saying something like I hope to meet this dog soon. I ended up receiving a message from another lady, asking how my experience has been because she too had an application in for another dog and had not received any response either. Im not sure what the purpose of this company is if it is not to find good homes for these dogs. It is very upsetting what they do to people because people get their hopes up for these dogs, spend time fill out lengthy applications, and then dont even receive a response. Whoever runs this rescue needs to find a new hobby because they obviously do not care to do their due diligence to find these dogs good homes. Its rescues like this that keep breeders in business.

Not sure what is with all of the bad reviews of this rescue. At first I was worried to work with them to find a dog to fill the hole in our hearts after losing our last dog. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to the negative comments. Luv4K9s has been great. They truly do put the interests of the dogs ahead of anything else. We just got a second dog from them... the same foster mom even. I never had any issues with them. In fact, we are still in regular communication with our foster. If you live in Ohio and have a hard time finding a smaller dog to rescue, this is your place. We traveled from Columbus because our shelters are full of larger dogs, mostly pit bull mixes. As long as you can meet their requirements for adoption, you should have no issues with them.

I have adopted two dogs from this group. They are very thorough and make sure that the dog has the best chance for long term placement. I highly respect that. I am not friends with anyone in this group and I originally found them on petfinder so I know that they do not discriminate. I went through vet checks, personal interviews, and two meet and greets before I took my first dog home. Then we had weekly calls for months to make sure he adjusted. That is the action of people who care enough to make sure a dog is properly adjusted. If you are putting your own selfish interests before the needs of a dog that has come from a puppy mill or abusive situation I can see why you were not selected. You should choose a different organization with less restrictive criteria and not bash an organization that cares because their criteria do not meet your lifestyle or home situation. They are upfront about requiring a fence and if you had read the rules you wouldnt be surprised or maybe you expect them to compromise their organizations values to suit you. Either way it is not a reason to give this great organization of loving volunteers poor reviews.

How very sad that these folks appear to hate the very people who can bring homes to their rescues and money to their cause. I’m the consummate pet owner seeking to give a home to my next pup - and their unresponsive ness, rudeness and I professionalism has been amazing. I will be reporting them to the Ohio Atty General - they should not be in operation as a non-profit or in any other regard.

I applied for a dog, filled out application, was thoroughly checked out by them, and received a call saying I was approved. I live 2 hours away so I was thrilled I was approved. My fur baby is a joy to us. They do a great service for those of us wanting a new addition to our families. Id use them again (Im always looking)

Well, They obviously don’t want to get rid of dogs since they don’t respond to people. We tried contacting them four times and, never got a response back. I agree with that other review, the positive reviews sound really fake. You adopted a dog 10 years ago and, just randomly decided to post a review now? Lmao yea, ok....

We tried to adopt a dog and never had a response until we kept contacting them. We love dogs and just lost one. We filled out the application and we never heard anything and none of our references were ever contacted. We think it is because of our age. We have the money to well take care of a dog we have a nice fenced in yard we met all requirements. They didn’t contact us so we sent them a message and I was informed that the dog we wanted was adopted by a previous adopter.

All these negative comments make no sense at all, this is a rescue that does what they feel is in the best interests of the dogs. If your application doesnt get approved, you run and make a bad review on Google? Get a life people....

If youre not an Alumni I suggest you just move on. This is who this rescue place caters too. Dont believe me?? Check their past adoptions on Facebook. Dont have multiple dogs....might as well move on as well.We went through the whole process and was promised a follow up call, and we never got it. There was absolutely no way we didnt fit any of the criteria as we have experience working with broken dogs. The next time we seen the dog we wanted was on Facebook when she was adopted, by yes....another alumni. This whole process of waiting took 2 months and they didnt even have the common courtesy to let us know, as they promised. They need to be up front with people instead of breaking their hearts when they lead you to believe you have a chance, when, in fact, the dog is already spoken for by an alumni.I suggest you move on because the odds of getting a dog is slim to none.

Zero appreciation, respect, or empathy for those interested in saving/adopting from them. I highly recommend you pay attention to the reviews of adoption agencies. This one by far has been the worst experience. Clearly I should have not disregarded the reviews prior contacting them.

I have adopted two dogs through this organization. Both were puppy mill rescues. The volunteers took the time to make sure that I understood what I might be facing. Both dogs have been wonderful pets and I will come to these folks again when the time comes. In the meantime I have loving memories of my Laverne and am busy making memories with my Maya. God bless these people and the work they do.

Here is my response to my rejection of an application to adopt a small poodle because I did not have a fence attached to my house. I was willing to install a large play yard but that was not sufficient. I have owned 5 toy poodles throughout my lifetime and my last one passed away of old age at 14 1/2. Here is my response to my rejection letter: Very well. Based upon other reviews Ive seen of your organization I will not comment on your policies....however keep in mind please that a small dog left out in a fenced yard could easily be picked off by any number of hawks or other animals of prey. The method of walking a dog outside, being right there with them, watching them while theyre on a leash and keeping an eye on them while theyre outside seems like a much better precautionary method of taking care of a small dog. However Im not trying to persuade you to change your policies as I know thats not going to happen. You are short-sighted in my opinion as to placing dogs and good homes. I am really not sure what your motivation is but Im sure theyre very happy with their current owners.. oh did I say owners I mean Foster families.

Submitted an application and had to reach out several times to talk to someone. When I finally talked to someone, she spent more time talking to her 7 dogs - some hers, some fosters. They are too restrictive when it comes to adopting. I have a quiet home and I’m fortunate to not have to work so I’m home a lot with my other small rescue peke mix. Apparently nothing is good enough.

I adopted a dog from Luv4k9s and was impressed with vetting process. They called all my references, contacted my vet and kept me informed during the entire process! They even have an annual reunion where all the adopters can meet up and bring their dogs so we can all visit! This organization and its volunteers are amazing!!!!!

They didnt allow us to adopt a dog just because we didnt have a fence. I dont understand how not having a fence doesnt allow us to get a dog. It doesnt mean were bad pet owners. What happens if you live in an apartment? Most people dont have fences and I hope they soon realize that.

I wish they understood that not all dogs need a fenced in yard and that it significantly limits their ability to allow for responsible pet owners to adopt their dogs. I wish I could rate and support them in more ways and wish them the best of luck with their limited scope of adoptable families. It is a shame.

There is no communication from this rescue after you apply and they make arbitrary decisions on who is a best fit without checking references or interviewing the potential adopter. There are plenty of legit rescues around. Do business with one that actually cares.

On 3/14/2020, my daughter and I attended the meet and greet at PetSmart -- 2500 N Fairfield Beavercreek OH to see several dogs that I had already checked on Petfinders. My intention was to hopefully select 2 dogs and then proceed with Luv4k9s process... but due to the disrespect and lack of interest from the volunteers, my daughter and I left the event. I had attempted to talk to one of either the fosters or volunteers who actually acted disdainfully toward me. I do not know her name but she was 5 3, dark hair below shoulder length with black rim glasses. I was very offended with her response, but there was one gentleman who actually talked to us about the dogs he and his family were fostering. If Luv4k9s mission is to place dogs in caring homes, then the volunteers should attempt to welcome all prospective adopters.

This Rescue was all over face book having found puppies and mommies abandoned on one of the coldest days this winter.. Looked like a breeder had dumped them .. Shamefull.. I called and was told not they were 3-4 Weeks old and my application would get lost in the shuffle before they could would be ready and pretty much told me not to bother.... I posted on the FB site and since I have been accused of being entitled and impatient and a lier and was told by one that I probably should not be allowed to adopt if I could not wait... Ok so if these puppies are not available then maybe there was others it did not have to be THESE puppies. I would wait for due process and take my approval and or disapproval; however if I am completing an application and they can not keep it in a safe place without the expectation that it will not get lost in the Shuffle I do not need this rescue.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!!! I appreciate all those that volunteer time to help rehome animals. However this company had my application for 2 months before contacting my references. Im a former dog owner. My dog passed away a few years ago from cancer. He saw the vet and groomer regularly. They both told us they would give good references on the care we provided him. We waited a few years to grieve him as he was family to us. I didnt think it would take months to check references but it did. After they called my landlord(we have 3 acres with chain link fence), groomer, vet, plus 2 personal references......its been yet another month without even getting our phone interview. 3 months of waiting. We went through another agency that had all the same requirements and reliant on volunteers....and we got our new fur baby in less than a week. Im upset i inconvenienced our references with this company.

We applied for a particular dog, and drove up from the Cincinnati area fir a meet and greet in Dayton. The dog wasnt there and we were told hed be at the next one. Well, we make the trip again 2 weeks later and he still wasnt there. Given a run around about how he doesnt do well at those events.Couldnt get a commitment to meet him at the fosters home. Never heard back regarding our application. Just checked their site - the poor thing is still up for adoption - and this is 10 months later. Makes no sense at all.

If you dont have multiple dogs, children, or an alumni, you might as well forget it. They did all the background checks, which I know we passed.....said they would get back to us, and they never did. The person who did the phone interview was rude and talked down to us as if we never owned a dog. (Our past dogs have been treated like royalty). So, if you find a dog from this place, dont get too attached. Its probably not gonna happen!
