The owners of Acadia Outfitters are so friendly, kind and professional. They were such a pleasure to deal with. We rented from them twice on our visit to Maine and both times, they suggested great trails and places to take the E-bikes and scooter to. All their rentals were well maintained. We look forward to dealing with them again when we return to Maine!

My experience with Acadia Outfitters was so incredible that I had to take the time to leave them a (lengthy) positive review. My group of friends and I have made a trip up to Bar Harbor/Acadia for the past 4 years (its become an annual tradition). Two months prior to our visit my group of friends stated that they reserved some scooters for the morning to tour Cadillac Mountain with Acadia Outfitters. My girlfriend and I held off on our reservation since we were in the midst of finding someone to look after her son while we were gone. Long story short we could not find anyone to watch her son but she is absolutely incredible, wanted me to go up and have fun, so she was kind enough to stay home this time. I called Acadia Outfitters the day after but was told all the scooters had been booked. Fast forward to the trip. We finally made it up and the weather was looking atrocious Friday through Sunday. One of our friends convinced the group to keep the reservations and wait to see how the weather was the next day. Well we lucked out! There were plenty of clouds but there was no rain after the first initial 10 minute burst of rain when we first picked them up. lol. I called Acadia Outfitters when they opened at 8am and asked if there were any cancelled reservations but was initially told they were still fully booked. I dont know what possessed me to do so, but I followed the group anyway while they got signed up to the rent motor scooters. As I was waiting and wandering the shop the woman behind the counter asked me what I was planning on doing while the other 6 people were out exploring. I stated that I had no Idea and said I might just wander Bar Harbor by myself. She looked at the other employee, pointed at me, and shrugged at him with a curious look on her face. He looked into the shop and nodded back at her with a smile. She then told me that they had a backup scooter that day in case one doesnt work and asked me if would like to use it so could join my friends. Working for a shop that repairs cars, this is not something I would EVER expect to happen on any given day but of course I accepted and ultimately had the most fun exploring Acadia than I have had the past four years I have visited! Its not every day (or most days) a business that sees THOUSANDS of visitors a year would go above and beyond like this, purely out of the goodness of their hearts to make a customer happy. Whether youre a potential customer that took the time to read this review, a person not sure of what to do during your visit to Acadia, or someone with a reservation with them in the near future. Just know youre in good hands. If you are one of the two employees that helped me the weekend of September 24th 2021, I genuinely want to thank you for the kindness and hospitality you showed a complete stranger such as myself. You better believe I will always recommend you to anyone looking to visit and I hope I will see you again very soon!

Why they do not get FIVE stars is a mystery to us. We rented a scooter for a day and thoroughly enjoyed acadia. With a scooter you can easily park at all the sites without waiting for a car space. We easily saw the whole park in one day on a scooter. The staff was super friendly and answered all our questions. Would recommend to everyone. We would rent from them again.

The kayak tour was a lot of fun. Carter was a great guide. 10/10 recommend participating in an activity with this group.

We are traveling from Maryland and we wanted to see the views on the parkway in a slightly different way, so we decided to rent scooters! The owners were fantastic! Super friendly and willing to answer any questions we had ( they were nice enough to help us map out our route ). The scooters were a lot of fun and helped make the experience. 10/10 would recommend!

Our experience with Acadia Outfitters was fantastic. We rented 4 scooters. I was surprised at how quickly we were able to get on the road from when we showed up. It was also nice that the price they advertise is the price you pay, no hidden fees and the shown price includes tax and everything. On top of all that they were very friendly. I would absolutely recommend renting from them!

Rented a tandem kayak from their team in the summer. Made a reservation and they had everything ready to go quickly. The team is safety conscious but if youve got good kayaking experience and know how to handle emergencies that is what matters to them. Nice people and great service. Definitely recommend.

Tried renting kayaks from here. We are experienced sea kayakers from CT, and the lady there told us we needed to be cold water rescue certified. I looked everywhere online and cant find this certification. She literally made this up. From their website, If you’re renting kayaks, we’ll help you load the boats onto the top of your vehicle using our convenient foam blocks and tie-down straps. We’ll also provide route information so you’ll have the best trip possible. If you’re renting, you will need to be able to have self-rescue skills. I explained to her we have taken 2 self rescue classes for sea kayaking, and she was very condescending, saying, well in this water you only have 30 minutes to live, as if we had no idea what we were talking about. Ruined our plans for the day. If you dont want to rent kayaks to people, then dont advertise for it, and be specific about your requirements on your website, so you are not wasting our time on vacation. Also, dont be condescending to your customers. Will be going somewhere else!!!

The BEST way to explore Mount Desert Island was by Scooters! Staff was very friendly and helpful. A FAVORITE memory from our trip to Maine.

Rented bikes and scooters and everyone was nice. The scooters are serious.. the vendor took scooter safety very seriously... and i think that some of the people reviewing perceived the seriousness and sternness of the vendor associated with the scooters as the vendor being rude, but they werent rude to me. The scooters were fun. and went fast, the park loop was beautiful on a scooter, highly recommended.

My husband and I rented scooters from Acadia Outfitters and thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon cruising around Park Loop in Acadia. I had never ridden a moped before, but was quickly instructed, and my confidence followed suit. We had the most amazing experience!

We stopped in Bar Harbor on a cruise we took. It was the best part of the cruise and Acadia Outfitters was the best part of the town. We were originally going to rent bikes down the street and then found out about the scooters here and decided that if we were going to make the most of the day scooters were a better option. That was the BEST decision we made. We saw the whole park and had time to actually stop and take in the sights. The owners were awesome and very helpful. They also rent Bikes and Kayaks.

The owner of the shop saved my day by helping jump my car and get me back on the road. Great people, great service even for non customers.

Im surprised about the bad reviews as we had a great experience today with this business. They rented us a tandem kayak at a reasonable price with all needed equipment, and waited for us to come back as we got stuck in a nasty storm with lightning and wind (fortunately my partner is expert level at sea kayak).

Quickly rented 2 nice bikes and given great tips of how to navigate through Acadia Park. Very nice, friendly people, and service. Would go back again in a heartbeat:)

If your not cold water certified dont bother. Thats not why it gets 1 star. Its their staff. As others have stated, they make it very clear your not qualified to rent from them. Then why are u advertising to rent them in the 1st place? Asked about how to get certified and how long it takes and the guy wasnt sure? If you need this requirement, then you should give some information about how to get certified or where to go to get it, right? Not very helpful. Go somewhere else.

Very friendly staff, took less than five mins to walk in and get fitted for bikes and we were on our way! GREAT way to experience some views of Acadia via bike.

We asked to rent scooters and the lady made it very apparent she did not want our/need our business. Proceeded to tell us all reasons why we shouldnt rent scooters. Her main reasoning was about the inherent danger involved...obviously? Meanwhile there are 10 scooters just sitting outside making it very clear they rent scootersOur group is still very confused about the awkward situation. Bottom line, if your looking to rent scooters dont bother going to Acadia Outfitters/ Scooter Rental Service, unfortunately they are the only scooter rental service in the area, could be a good opportunity for someone to start a scooter rental business who actually rent scooters...

Terrible customer service. As soon as we walked in the 2 employees working were condescending and rude and did not want our business. Gave us a very hard time about renting equipment. Avoid this place.
