I am not one to venture to cemeteries for fun, but this one was an exception and I am glad I went. This is a very beautiful cemetery and on a pleasant fall day it was very relaxing in the middle of the pandemic. There are some fascinating headstones combined with the tie to the King novel, it just all came together.

Second oldest cemetery in United States established in 1834. Very historic and lovely place to visit and reflect. Many civil war generals and other notable figures resting here. Place is nicely kept and the momuments are true art pieces.

Take a tour of the historical Mount Hope Garden Cemetery, one of the nation’s oldest garden cemeteries. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it was established in 1834, concurrent with the incorporation of Bangor.

Gorgeous Cemetery. The tombstones are works of art! The grounds are very nicely kept. Walked here almost everyday when I visited family for a week. The music playing a couple times a day was an interesting, eerie touch. I loved it!

Beautiful place to go for a walk! The walk ways are kept nicely paved and the area is always clean. My husband and I visit Bangor often, so we like to come out here and walk around. There is usually some wildlife around and people are always respectful of each other. Bells play now and then, too. I remember one time the mosquitoes were really bad, but thats normal for a Maine place with grass and a body of water. Highly recommend! Esp if youre a Stephen King fan or Maine History buff.

Well kept, but the roads are too narrow to park and there are no turn ins. Also they locked ALL of the gates except one behind the crematorium at 3:30pm- when the sign said they close them at 7:30pm in August. They locked the gate beside the only parking lot. We spent 20 minutes driving around just to escape the place.

Mt. Hope Cemetery is a treasure for Bangor, Maine. The walking areas are fabulous. So much of Bangor and Maine history right before our very eyes.

We visited this cemetery many years ago and I was simply enthralled by both its beauty, location and history. Burials from the early 1800s, including one that, as mentioned on his grave stone, was a Frenchman who had fled Robespierres Reign of Terror in France. We love to explore cemeteries and Mt. Hope has been the best so far. Trivia-it makes two cameo appearances in the movie Pet Sematary.

I was blown away by the kindness shown to me by the staff at Mount Hope Cemetery. They went out of their way to place a stake on my great uncles grave and kept it their for two weeks until I was able to visit his grave. Thank you so much!

An interesting cemetery, we went to see a part that was in Stephen King’s pet sematary and where Al Brady is. It’s a pretty stop when exploring Bangor.
