Baltimores worst air polluter is suing Baltimore City (for setting stronger pollution limits and Baltimore County (for not sending enough trash). They are now trying to evade democracy by securing a contract renewal before it expires through a deal with Mayor Jack Young. The people just elected a new Mayor, council president and Comptroller who all pledged to end the citys contract in 2021. The city has options for alternatives that will create more jobs, less pollution and are better for the environment. We can do better than being a regional trash burning hub. There is no reason Baltimore City needs a large trash incinerator and a large landfill - as long as do we will not get started with any serious or scaled efforts to move towards Zero Waste (which is the mainstream modern approach to materials management).

They need to get on top of trash faster than they do. Wait time is ridiculous. City should have never sold it. Lol

Just like jimmy johns, free smells! Burning feces and newspaper has never been on such a pedestal. A poo burning factory is the first thing you see entering Baltimore, and the last thing you see when leaving. It really sets the mood upon arrival, and helps solidify your experiences in memory after departure. Excellent choice of placement. Stay classy, Baltimore.

Environmental racism at work; produces 82 percent of the sulfur dioxide and 64 percent of the nitrogen oxides emitted by smokestacks within city limits. Largest single polluter in the city, worse than coal-fire plants. Receives millions in green energy subsidies, just because trash is technically renewable. IT MUST GO.

Wheelabrator Baltimore sent misleading information in the recent January 2019 mailings to Baltimore residents. This apparently was an attempt to continue avoiding compliance with clean air and pollution standards and still receive approval for contract renewal. Wheelabrator has received over $10 million in subsidies for being a green energy provider. Yet, this company has routinely, and unyieldingly, avoided compliance and emitted pollutants that have dramatic negative health consequence for children, senior citizens, area residents, and those living downwind from the incinerator. This is not green. THE CITY OF BALTIMORE MUST NOT RENEW THE CONTRACT. It would be a great injustice to allow Wheelabrator Baltimore to continue to pollute our air, water, and cause harm to our citizens’ health.

The place might not smell great but they burn the trash to convert it to energy. I think this is the best way to dispose of trash rather than having trash sit in a dumps.
