I was so excited to move into this building after having a nightmare experience in another apartment complex nearby, and Im so glad I ended up here! Lots of space, beautiful natural light, pet friendly, and super close to school! Maintenance is very quick to respond to issues, nice people live here, and the building is very secure. Couldnt have asked for a better living experience! If there are no openings here, I also highly suggest their sister building at 611 Park Ave!

We did a lot of research on a variety of potential apartments. We had one issue with an outlet after moving in that was fixed within a day. The area feels very safe. There are many great food options nearby. The Helmand (Afghan food) is our favorite food option so far. Ceremony is our favorite coffee shop. The view from the apartment, the amount of the space, the amount of sunlight in the living room, the speed at which maintenance requests are taken care of by full-time maintenance staff, and the hardwood floors are the reasons we chose the apartment. The cost is very reasonable given the amount of space. We look forward to living at The Severn.

The Severn is an amazing and unique building to live in Baltimore. It has the best location in town at the heart of Mt. Vernon. Plenty of bars, restaurants, and cafes are around. Public transportations also available to anywhere in Baltimore. The Penn station is within walking distance. The light rail stop is also just around the corner, which would take you to the airport. The community is lively, safe, and friendly. The renovated apartment are in a very good status. Maintenance and admins are very responsive to any issues, even on the weekend. Access to the pool is a huge plus in the summer to chill and swim. The pool has a beautiful rooftop view of Baltimore and it is good sized. The gym is easily accessible and great for working out.

I have lived at The Severn for 18 months and it has been a great experience so far. The building itself is old, which has a both positives and negatives, but the management does an excellent job of answering requests for service and general issues. The Building itself was built in the 1890s, and so with that old-school charm (e.g., high ceilings and hardwood flooring) comes some problems common to all older buildings. As with any building of this age, there is no central air, so cooling in the summer (which is a necessity) must come from window/portable AC units. But, on the other hand, the heating system (individually controlled wall-panel style heaters) does a great job in the winter. Some of the other common issues that arise due to age also allow the strengths of the management company to really shine. There is the occasional pest, but if the apartment is kept clean then they are almost non-existent. I have seen a mouse on occasion and have found three dead roaches over the 18 month period. Those pests are unavoidable in a building of this age, but management responds to any requests quickly and they actively monitor and proactively deal with such issues by periodically sending extermination services throughout the building to set traps etc. so that any pests that might be present are dealt with. The web-portal for managing rent and submitting work requests is easy to use. Also, paying online incurs only a nominal convenience fee (~$2.00), which is much less than I have had to pay in the past for the convenience of paying online. Any of the times I have submitted a work order because of an issue (e.g., plumbing, light going out, oven pilot light going out, fire-alarm beeping), a service technician was over very quickly (2/4 times fixing the issue that same day, with the other two fixing it the next work day).Lastly, the management company has really tried to foster a sense of community. They manage several other buildings in the neighbourhood and have holiday parties and events among all the buildings where they have food, drinks, and games! These are a great way to see other tenants and get to know other folk who are living in the apartments around you.I definitely recommend The Severn, or any other building managed by WPM (they have several newer ones nearby with facilities (like a gym and rooftop pool @ 611 Park Ave) that we also have access to as residents of The Severn).

The Severns elevator issues are out of control, we have had more than 3 breakdowns in the past few months, two of which resulted in waiting more than a week for repairs. During the big blizzard the elevator was broken and I witnessed several tenants slip on the spiral stairs. I have tried to be patient and understanding as this is a historical building, but this evening my girlfriend fell into the elevator and injured herself due to the fact that the elevator was not level with the floor and the elevator is now once again out of service. There was no signage to indicate an issue so unfortunately we must have discovered the disrepair. This thing is a lawsuit waiting to happen and more importantly tenants cannot possibly feel safe with the managements continuous faulty efforts toward finding a long-term and safe solution for their tenants. This is past an inconvenience it is dangerous and is not being handled with any kind if appropriate response. Beyond the elevator issues there are major pest control issues. Do not rent here
