I relocated from St. Louis to Houston in October of 2020. Made a return visit in June but I held off some maintenance because I fully trust them with my 308,000 mile 4Runner which has been maintained by Roys since I rolled into that shop. It has runs like a Swiss time piece every since Charlie put his hands on it. The mechanics there know their stuff. Super guys and gals in the front office. If it were practical no one in Houston would ever lay a finger on it.

This place is great. Started going here about 4 years ago. The location is wonderful - you can avoid Manchester by going to the stoplight just west of Roys. Theyre always happy to answer qs over the phone, provide quotes right away, and try to work with your availability as much as possible. There doesnt seem to be a lot of turnover which, to me, says a lot about an auto repair shop. They have also taken me out to the service bay to show me underneath my car once. Anyway, well keep going to Roys for as long as we can.

Literally the best mechanic in St. Louis - super nice on the phone, always available, and not expensive. You can easily spend $70-$85 on a full synthetic oil change, but not at Roys! Also depending on whats going on with your car, theyll help you free. There was one time they looked at my car and then didnt charge me anything. And another time the fixed my tire and it was like only $5. They are genuinely a great business to work with!

A $79 air conditioning recharge ended up over $700... communication on status of completion was lacking, so coordinating being able to pick up was challenging.

After a failed safety inspection from Jiffy Lube, I recently brought my truck to Roy’s to have them complete the repairs listed on the inspection report. The issues were listed as leaking power steering fluid and a gear box not securely mounted. I described how I’d recently replaced that fluid myself and suspected I hadn’t refilled with enough fluid, so I did so after the inspection and there had been no loss of fluid since. They said if it was holding the steering fluid, it likely would not need the other issues repaired, and suggested I take it back for a re-inspection as they believed it should pass. I had it re-inspected and it passed.They could have looked at the report and just done the repair listed without having an honest discussion with me. Instead, they saved me an unnecessary $600 repair and in the process, secured my trust to return for any future repairs as well as referrals to others regarding my experience there.Thank you for your friendliness and honesty!

Recently took my car in for some pre-winter maintenance (brake work & tire replacement), and could not be happier. They had an estimate for me within minutes of calling, and as a AAA member, they included a complimentary diagnostic inspection, with estimates for repairing the issues they found.Reasonable rates, fantastic service--Ill absolutely be coming back to Roys for any other repairs I need.

I am VERY picky where I take my cars. I moved to St. Louis 10 years ago, and was still taking my car to my old mechanic in Illinois I trusted, until a friend recommended Roys to me. I’m extremely happy with the service at Roy’s. My daughter is going to college nearby but family lives 4 hours away. The odd electrical issues she was having were hard to address with her so far away. AAA wound up towing the car to Roy’s one night after we trusted AAA’s recommendation about Roy’s. They were able to attend to the unscheduled appointment the next day and determined a simple fix related to a battery cable. Upon picking up the car, apparently her jump starting had blown the headlight bulbs which they also then took care of in short order. The car is running great once again.The big thanks here is that she was due to come home for Thanksgiving break. We were concerned about having to travel down and then having to hope to leave the car at the shop for a week. We were further concerned that she might have to stay down there into Thanksgiving week to address the car while her campus was empty. They were very sympathetic to our plight and did all they could to help her get home to enjoy family for the holiday. We are so grateful and know that for her next four years at school that we have a great shop to rely on. Thanks to all parties involved for helping us out.

Look, I hate going to a repair shop as much as anyone else. That being said, I would go to Roy’s anytime! I have had to use them 5 or 6 times and each time I have been impressed with their communication and honesty. Where others have tried to charge me hundreds for a gamut of different reasons, they were able to advise me on only the necessities and save me a ton of money! In fact, last time I was there they needed my car longer than anti pirated to try and diagnose the issue. Due to the extended time, they didn’t charge me the diagnostic fee! Go to them and you won’t be disappointed!

Im a 23 year old girl who just moved here from Cincinnati, OH for work. Almost immediately after arriving my check engine light came on (ew). No one likes car stuff when it comes to things that go wrong. But its even harder when youre a woman (sorry but its true), you dont know a lot about cars, AND youre new to the area and dont know who to trust. But these guys make the experience as painless as humanly possible. The cost of my repair was high. But they were genuinely apologetic, and were happy to walk (crawl) through every little thing that was wrong, and why it happened. Then they were willing to work with me so I could chunk up the repairs in increments so that the payments were a bit more manageable. They had no issues revealing to me what was absolutely necessary to fix, what could wait for a while, and what really wasnt super necessary but a good precautionary measure to take. Theyre friendly and respectful. In the vast world of auto-mechanic-scammers Im happy to have found a shop with a group of people that have an air of honesty and sincerity about them. Am I happy about what happened to my car? No, but bad things happen. Im just happy that I found a shop that makes those bad things a little less painful. These guys will have my business for the remainder of the time that Im in the St. Louis area.

I completely trust this place. Steve made calls for us to see what we should do while we were stuck in a hotel in Kentucky recently with a transmission out on our car. We called to get his recommendation and he volunteered to check into pricing and did so....and promptly called us back within 30 minutes. This is an honest to goodness auto repair shop. They are professional and competent and they went out of the way to diagnose my electrical system for no charge. Turns out my battery ground needed cleaning.10 bucks for the service and I was back on the road. Also, they gave me a quote on an alternator that was half the price of my dealership. Ive been going to Roys since 1997 when I moved to the area. They are a very trusted business and customer service is excellent. Theyve always be extremely honest with me. Its very hard to find skilled people like the ones at Roys that are also good, honest, and trustworthy. Ive brought a lot of different cars to Roys over the years and I cant imagine going anywhere else. Steve worked very hard and creatively on one of my older cars in late 2014 to send my cars computer board to a company to work on it for a few hundred dollars instead of a simple and standard option to just replace it for a thousand dollars. Theyre great and Id recommend them to anyone.

I had an appointment for a bulb change. The morning of the appointment my car didnt turn over as quickly as normal. It had done this once before. I told them about it when I arrived. They were able to test and replace my battery as wel as the bulb thus l saving me from having to make an additional appointment.

These guys always manage to get me in pretty quickly. They always seem to have pretty good rates on services, especially over the shoddy work youd get at Dobbs or Firestone across the street. They are reliable and do good work. Parking lot is kind of a pain to get in and out of though.

Great personal service/attention and lower prices.Only issue I had was a mis-diagnostic of some brake noise which ended up costing us twice, for two different brake repairs.

I came here a few years ago because my car was overheating. I took it here and they mentioned I needed a new water pump as well as a new thermostat. Paid for both and it still overheated. I even got a brand new radiator during this time and it still overheated. Took it back here and they said the problem is actually that I need a new head gasket, which as you may know is one of the most expensive repairs on a car. I know that overheating can LEAD to a new head gasket, but the issue the entire time was the head gasket, not the radiator, thermostat or water pump that I paid for.My issue is that they didnt properly diagnose the problem in the first place. While they are very friendly and have a great reputation around here, youll notice other reviewers who had issues also point to diagnosis issues where you end up paying for fixes that were not needed. I feel to really be a great auto repair shop you must excel at diagnostics otherwise youre wasting your customers time and money. So if you just need routine maintenance they are probably good at that, but if you truly need someone to spend time to get to the core of an issue (especially if you dont want to throw unnecessary money at an older car) then I cant recommend them for that.

I have been going to Roys for nearly 30 years. It is one of the most reliable, high-quality, top-notch auto service centers in the St. Louis area. I have never encountered an effort to gouge customers, fake diagnostics or push additional products off on the customers. Their prices are fair, service is prompt. An honest Auto Repair shop is a gem of a find.They go out of their way to find the least expensive way to make your car completely serviceable.Both cars Ive owned since using Roys have lasted well over 110,000 miles (my Lumina- the first) lasted >150K.I trust these guys.

Awesome, awesome, awesome repair shop. Ive never had an issue here and what I like most about them is that they are HONEST. Leaving your car in someone elses hands involves a lot of trust. I recently took my car there because my hood wouldt open. When I got there apparently it started opening again. They told me that it was working fine and that the latch was a bit gummed up but other than that it was working fine. They could have easily charged me to repair it and not told me that it was working but they were upfront and honest. In addition, since it was only there for a few minutes they didnt charge me anything. I dont let many people work on my cars as I do most of it myself but Roys is one that this unskilled amateur gearhead trusts. I cant recommend this place enough.

I needed to renew my plates and the mechanic I used to go to quoted me $1,200 for the needed work before they could pass my vehicle for inspection. I didnt believe I was being shot straight so I took it to Steve and his team at Roys to get a second opinion. I didnt give him any context, just told him the same thing I told my former mechanic, tell me what I need to pass the inspect. With complete sincerity Steve broke the bad news to me that he couldnt pass my vehicle for inspection without having to do $80 worth of repairs! Ill never forget that moment when I realized I had found my forever mechanic who would always be honest and treat me fair. Ive taken my vehicles to Roys for a decade now and every time they come through with elite professional quality, care and more than fair pricing. Steve and his team at Roys are incredible people and great mechanics and I recommend you look no further if and when your time comes for needing a fantastic mechanic you can trust. You will be glad that you did.

Biggest waste of money. Charged me upwards of $800 to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to my car. If theres actually something wrong with your car, I highly recommend NOT going to Roys. I came in because I heard a noise from the rear axle area of my car. I was told it has a bad differential that will need replacement, among other miscellaneous things that I probably didnt need replaced. But since Im a sucker, I trusted them and went with it. They couldnt find the diff, so I ordered it. After it being in the shop for 3 weeks, its finally done but with a $700 bill. I drive it maybe 20 miles and the problem starts again, but much worse. It starts smoking out of the diff. I take it back in and it turns out the diff I just bought overheated and is now ruined. I then discovered on my own that if the tires arent all the same size, it can cause uneven wear and overheating. So another $130 for new tires. I got the car back and Bam, the noise is still there. It probably needs another whole new differential or who knows whatever else. In conclusion, they fix symptoms, not problems and will squeeze as much money out of you as youll let them. So heres to waiting with my car in the shop for a month and paying $830 for absolutely nothing to be done to my car. I have NEVER been screwed over so bad by a shop before. If you need an oil change, theyre probably fine. But if you need competent diagnostics, and fair service, keep looking.

Let me preface this review with the fact that as of right now I have not had service done to my vehicle here, however just in dealing with their technicians in refuting absurd charges from another shop (firestone) I would say they are extremely honest and good people here. They saved me about $500 in labor costs when the other shop was trying to double charge me for labor costs.Will update my review more once I have received actual service from them.
