Door of hope has been a blessing in my son’s life. At the age of eight and in third grade my son could not grasp the skill of reading. He was very aware of this and was starting to shut down on learning. Sending my son to school was a struggle because he knew everyday he was expected to perform a skill he simply did not have or understand- reading. My son was placed in special education classes to help with reading, in the last two years special ed has not accomplished what Door of Hope did for my son in six months. My son can now read on his own! He is sounding out words as well as compound words! I am overjoyed to see the self confidence and self esteem in my son go up! Before the pandemic hit I had another meeting with my son’s teachers! They mentioned my son now knew how to read. I pointed out it was due to Door of Hope’s wonderful work! His teachers also mentioned Ivan was more confident and stayed on task more than before. All this we owe to Door of Hope. I only wish we could have found them sooner. All three of my children came to Door of Hope at various ages. Karen is extremely gifted at what she does. If your child is struggling or even if they just need an extra bit of assistance with their reading, I would highly recommend seeing Karen. She is truly amazing and you will see improvement. The Door of Hope Learning Center helped my son a lot during the summer of 2019. My son struggled with his confidence and academics to meet the expectations of St. Francis Parish School. By the end of the summer, Karen Peavler and her staff gave him the tools he needed to succeed; a fundamental foundation. The Door of Hope Learning Center helped my son to build up the necessary confidence he needed to become an active participant in a learning environment. When he went back to school in August of 2019, he was ready and eager to engage; a fresh start and a beautiful new beginning. Here it is a year later (summer of 2020), and my son is now above his grade level across the board. Our family is truly grateful for Karen and her excellent, insightful staff in assisting us with giving my son the gift and building blocks of learning, as well as the confidence he needed to move forward. My son is in special ed and has struggled with reading his entire time in school. When I found Door of Hope, he was a Sophomore in High School and was reading at a Preschool level. I didn’t know what to expect but I knew I needed to do something to help him. Finding Door of Hope was an answer to prayer and a HUGE help for my son. We did the full program with them and when he finished with them, he was reading at a 2nd grade level! In just that short amount of time they were able to boost his reading and his confidence in himself! I would highly recommend using Door of Hope because you CANNOT get this type of reading program ANYWHERE near us. This is the best tutoring facility around!

I have been taking my son here for a few months. Is. It has improved his academic performance immensely, as well his confidence and interest in academics and school. The teachers use the most effective method I have seen anyone use in the area, and Ive tried a few places. Door of Hope has been such an amazing resource, delivered with love, at a time when the schools were pretty much not offering anything effective for my son. I knew my son was bright, but I just needed the right help to help him show it better in school. These teachers know what we are going through and concrete steps to make things better.

Door of Hope has meant a lot for our family. We have twins which have struggled with reading for years. It was extremely hard for me, as a homeschool mom, that I could not help them. Door Of Hope Learning Center has done so much for my son. My son started 4th grade this year and was barely reading at kindergarten level. I tried everything and just couldn’t get him reading. I homeschool my children and our teacher suggested Door of Hope. He started back at basics and we hit the ground running. He put in the hard work and it’s paying off. He can finally read things that were just not readable before. We are still working on fluency reading but he is doing so well. I am so proud of how far he had come. Door of Hope Learning Center was an amazing help to our daughter. She was in the 2nd grade when she began. She hated school, often cried about going or doing work, and was very withdrawn in class. Karen and the wonderful tutors at Door of Hope made all the difference for her. Starting with an assessment that showed us where and how she was struggling, we felt confident and comfortable in the plan to address her needs. Karen regularly assessed her progress and kept us of informed along the way. After graduating from this program she entered 3rd grade a whole new student. Both her 2nd grade and 3rd grade teachers were amazed at the progress she had made. She was now excited to go to school and came out of her shell. Where in the past she would have stayed silent and tried to hide in class she now is eager to participate and has so much more confidence in herself. We are so grateful to Door of Hope Learning Center and highly recommend them.

About 6 months ago, our daughter was finishing the 2nd grade more than a grade level behind in her reading. The neurologist recommended a couple of highly recognized intervention programs to support her. I did research on them and found most were not located in California and the closest of all was over 2 hours away. We sprang for the high assessment cost and found some specifics on why and how our daughter was struggling. Unfortunately, the program was astronomical in cost. Distraught, I took a walk calling every reading tutor in Bakersfield asking about pricing and strategies. I finally found Door of Hope who was not only a fraction of the price but using some of the best reading strategies available. Now, our daughter is reading at or above grade level and her teacher says she can’t even tell her abilities from those of the other students in her class. My son really struggled with his reading, so much so that he looked upon books with utter disdain. When we took my son with autism to Karen most of our family thought it was pointless. At seven our family thought Grayson might never be able to read. But with weekly visits to Karen he is now reading on his own. She gave Grayson the ability to breakdown words and the tools to read with confidence. We couldnt be more thankful.

Door of hope has done amazing things for my 13 year old, she struggled with her Language Arts, Reading and comprehension. Here we are a year later and she promoted Junior High with a Gate recommendation letter for Language Arts for High School, such a huge accomplishment for her and it couldn’t have been possible with Karen and Jaime who have really helped her get through her Junior High years without a struggle and now she’s ready for High School!
