I owe Arye Shapiro Ph.D. most of my success in math class. From the first meeting, Arye was able to help me understand core concepts and more challenging work throughout the course of the year. He always comes to tutoring sessions prepared and ready to teach. Arye is special because he knows multiple ways to explain things and can adapt to your specific needs, based on your prior knowledge. He is one of the best tutors that I have worked with and shares his unique expertise clearly and concisely to the student.

Arye is the best there is. He’s patient, thoughtful and encouraging to both the student and parent. He helped my son catch up to a higher level math class midway through the school year, ensuring he was positioned for success the following year. I have been thoroughly satisfied with his tutoring.

After getting a D in Differential Equations the previous semester, I began working with Arye and finished out the class with an A the next. Not only have my grades improved in that class, but my deeper understanding of the material is useful in most every STEM class I will take from here on out. I will definitely work with Arye in the future.

This past semester Arye tutored me in Business Calculus. He was patient and explained concepts in an easy to follow format. I benefitted from the one-on-one time with him and would highly recommend his services to anyone who is looking for additional help in calculus or other advanced mathematics courses. Thank you for all of your help, Arye!

I contacted Dr. Shapiro six months ago seeking tutoring for my teenage daughter who is a Junior in high school taking AP Algebra II. Although she was managing to make As in the class the first semester, she felt she would need extra help the final semester of the course. The material was getting harder to understand and the teaching style of her high school teacher was not one that she related to very well. Therefore, we were looking for someone who could help her understand the material and maintain her high grades; but we wanted to be sure we found someone who could teach math in a manner conducive to her learning style. We needed to find her a compatible tutor.Dr. Shapiro turned out to be a match. From the start he took the time to assess where our daughters skills currently were, what areas she was strong in and what she was lacking. He developed a plan to meet her where she was at mathematically and advance her forward. He worked with her on a weekly basis with her school work, and her confidence level in math rose quickly. She always looked forward to the lessons with Dr. Shapiro because she knew that he would take the time to explain things to her effectively. We were so pleased with the results we were seeing with Dr. Shapiro that we also used his services to help our daughter prepare for the ACT exam. We purchased a workbook on our own, and for several weeks leading up to the exam Dr. Shapiro would work practice questions with our daughter. They would look at math problems in the workbook and decide which ones to focus on and Dr. Shapiro would patiently work through those problems with her.As a result of all of this work in the past six months, our daughters AP Algebra II grades are excellent and she will be exempt from taking the final exam. But most impressively, we were extremely pleased with her ACT score which placed her in the 93rd percentile nationally on her first attempt. We could not be happier with the progress and return on investment we are seeing. Our daughter plans to study Physics and Astronomy in college so we are going to continue utilizing Dr. Shapiro on a go-forward basis to give her a solid foundation. If you are looking for a math tutor, I highly recommend Dr. Shapiro. He is not only knowledgeable, but he is personable and works hard to meet your needs and your schedule.

Arye Shapiro was a remarkable, exceptional math tutor. I had always struggled with mathematics but all of that changed when I started working with Arye. He was extremely patient and dedicated to not only helping me pass College Algebra but ensure that I would get an A and that is exactly what happened! His patience, dedication and superior teaching skills changed my outlook on math and I went on to get a Bachelors of Science degree at a highly respected university. It all started with Arye and I will be forever grateful for all of his help. I highly recommend Arye so if you have the pleasure of working with him you will not regret it!

Arye is one in a million, a superb tutor who will always go the extra mile to help his students. Most tutors in these subject areas simply do not have his level of mastery in math and physics, or his ability to adapt his teaching methods to suit the individual student. His warm and caring approach helped my child ace her tests from AP high school physics to advanced differential equations for engineering. I absolutely recommend him.

Over the past several years, we have called on Arye for both of our children as they struggled with advanced mathematics in high school and in college. He not only has the patience and understanding to work with students who are not understanding concepts, he also has the level of expertise needed to help advanced students. When our daughter decided to major in mathematics, she ran into trouble in her final courses, which required long written proofs. Since this was outside his usual tutoring beat, Arye took the extra time to review the textbooks and worked with our daughter successfully on mastering the processes she needed. He has an organized approach and a warm personality, a very advanced understanding of the material, and many years of experience. Thanks, Arye, for your support in getting our two students through high school and college!

My daughter (high school sophomore) decided to study pre-Cal by herself. We were looking for a tutor who can (1) guide her through the course, (2) provide additional challenge to her beyond the course material. We were fortunate to have Arye to be her tutor. Arye explained the theories and practices in a thorough manner. As a result, my daughter passed the exam with A. Thank you very much, Arye.

My daughter who is now at Texas State University enrolled in their Pre-PT program was required to complete Physics I and Physics II, and to go on to Doctoral school the pressure was on to earn a B or higher. So, for a child who is not strong in math at all and did not see a reason for Physics (other than elementary or basics which I frankly agree with), she enrolled in Physics I and was in a panic. She did not understand anything and an F was certain if she stayed in. So she dropped. Well, I saw a barrier and thought, okay she needs pre-Physics tutoring, IF I can find such a tutor...to tutor BEFORE taking an actual class with a goal of preparing her, then following up with actual tutoring. I found Dr. Shapiro. We talked over the phone for well over an hour, discussing my daughter and her needs. We were not sure how this was going to work, but we decided to give it a try and see. A concern, of course, was without an actual class that my daughter may not be motivated. My daughter needed to pass Physics with a B or higher and she was passionate about being a Physical Therapist, so for an entire summer she did tutoring and went through the course material she would have at ACC in Physics I. She actually had a fall semester, and then enrolled in the Spring. I was concerned she might forget what she had learned. She did some, but the connections were restarted without too much effort. So let me tell you about Dr. Shapiro.Dr. Shapiro was excellent about:1. Knowing the material because he taught it.2. Knowing the students needs and listening to parents (who are likely paying for the sessions )3. Communicating with you (client or parent) if he sees that your child (or YOU) is not putting in as much effort or more than he does. Your child MUST be prepared. If you are the client, dont expect a handout. Physics is challenging and a handout in tutoring will not prepare you for tough exams, so be in it to excel and do the work. Dr. Shapiro does not do the work nor should he . Listen to his feedback and dont make excuses otherwise you are wasting your money. Hes not it this to solely for the money, so he will give you feedback even at risk of losing you as a client because he wants you to succeed!4. Arranging extra tutoring sessions as needed. Plan ahead. Dont expect him to drop everything, but he will bend over backwards to make time for you if you need extra help.5. Filling in the gaps where basic math maybe was missed in High School or forgotten.6. Engaging in spirited discussions about why Physics is relevant and admitting that okay maybe not that relevant, but thats really irrelevant so lets work together for a common goal7. Expecting a lot which teaches you invaluable lessons. Now my daughter is in Statistics and finds it EASY compared to Physics I and II...Wow, I struggled in statistics.8. Helping you (if you are his client) to develop study habits that YES help you for other tough classes ahead. You will be a better student, guaranteed! So how did my daughter do? She earned (yes earned) a B in Physics I and II. She helped classmates understand material before class that she understood. Wow, she actually assisted others. She did not make knock it out of the park grades but enough to earn a B but she worked VERY, VERY hard. I spent a ton of money, but Im financially blessed and feel it was a good investment in terms of the Physics class but in terms of teaching excellent study habits and a lesson, that if theres a barrier, figure out a way to get around it. We did, but with a lot of hard work and it paid off. Now my daughter knows she can over come and not accept, the false self-talk of.... I suck at math, or I cant do math, or even, I hate math....You man not love math, but you can overcome the negative talk and succeed with a lot of effort on your part. Nothing worth having is easy. So yes, do tutoring with Dr. Shapiro. You will not be disappointed.

Arye tutored my LHD through calculus her 1st semester at UT. Not only did he provide assistance with working through long and arduous problem sets but he provided the adult/grown-up interaction she needed to ground herself. Although she did not receive a perfect grade, she would have certainly come close to failing or would have failed without him. Calculus at UT lives up to the hype. Thank you Arye for getting her through it.
