I think this place is a part of the new pseudo mental health racket. They dont have psychiatrists available and are quick to boot out kids to inpatient care to get their money and move on to the next customer. This organization is so disorganized and my child described it as teenager daycare. They bounced my child around from one program to another (trying to charge me more money each time). They never called me back and were horrible about providing forms that I needed for my childs school. They told me to get my child assessed at a mental facility (which I thought they were one). The facility I went to admitted my child for inpatient care for a few days. Discovery then booted my child out of the program and we had to reapply, go through 9 different online forms again and pay again just to do it all over again. We got treated horribly. I dont recommend you send your child there or go there.

Best mental health facility by far. The staff is very caring, and very receptive, and they bring animals in! :3

The Outpatient team at Discovery Mood Austin is fantastic. The Program Director, Michelle & Primary Therapists prioritize clinical need above all & offer exclusively smaller groups for more individualized care.

The reason I am rating this program this highly and would actually rate it double that amount is because the entire treatment experience was reparative on so many levels words alone cannot convey. I was entering into this program hesitant with multiple negative treatment episodes in the past since the early 90s. Most were eating disorder ones and the last one was actually 10 plus years ago. This not only led to mistrust and an aversion to the idea of treatment on any level but the inability to fully heal or at least gain some amount of recovery in any area. But I was desperate to confront my moods and anxiety which have plagued me over 3 decades. Layers upon layers began to unravel and though I have more to work on I am undoubtedly light years farther ahead than when I started. Every single therapist, administrative person along the way, and clinician extremely empathetic, compatible, professional, objective, challenging and meeting every client where they are. Groups are very educational and informative and interactive and not just worksheets one fills out. I have never felt so challenged and at times this was extremely difficult. So many skills are taught and introduced and it is so helpful to see that some may work for others and others may benefit from another skill set. The group dynamic being age appropriate in separating adolescents from adults is extremely appreciated. The structure of the groups and variations of therapists leading them is structured in a flexible way. My therapy always was communicative with my family and outpatient team. The weekly assessment of progression with treatment plans and the transition of care from IOP to PHP or PHP to IOP. But I will most emphasize that I never felt judged, invalidated, or not believed in. I felt empowered and guided and that after this program I am not dependent upon a treatment center or program or solitary professional to survive in life and feel more confident in my ability to garner strength within myself with the tools I have learned and continue to apply to in life’s challenges and stressors. The clinical director who first took my call does so much and still cares about every patient and employee and likewise every staff member. My individual therapists helped me realize for myself the benefits in grounding and within that me realizing that sensory grounding and diaphragmatic breathing extremely useful to not only practice in times in crisis but at any time so it becomes practice and the appreciation i now have for Acceptance and Commitment therapy. My first individual therapist challenged me in my rigidity and perfectionism and when she pointed out not every ‘worksheet’ needed to be saved if not personally helpful - i realized everyone has things that help their process while others are helped with other skills. All the staff helped me keep things in focus with the skills i learned in the groups and in individual. A weekly group would assess goals for the future evening in the immediate moment. Here i first developed a greater sense of self awareness and found narrative exercises and art exercises most beneficial. The psychiatrist who managed my mediations spent adequate and attentive time with me and every patient. Groups are diverse including expressive therapies and creative ways to approach issues. I’ll personally be grateful for my own experience there and anyone else’s experience and or opinion is never going to influence mine.
