You do get internet service but it is so slow that it often fails its connection. Simply sending a picture via e-mail gets a 40/60% chance it will go through vs an error. They also throttle, so you do not get the promoted speeds. The promoted speed is a few seconds of burst and then your connection is throttled considerably.

The staff there really know what they’re doing. I had an ongoing issue for weeks where my service wouod just stop working multiple times a day for 20-30 min at a time, I thought it was going down all the time and couldn’t believe how much it was down. When I finally called them, they worked with me through my frustration and went step by step to get to the bottom of it. I had added extra length of cable because I was getting ready to move my router upstairs, but I hadn’t got around to it yet. The extra cable was spooled up by my heater coil, and every time my heater would come on is when the problem would happen. Turns out the heater is high powered enough to interfere with the signal over the cable and disrupted it. They recommended moving the cable away from the heater so I ran the cable up the wall and over and the problem stopped. Never would have guessed, it’s such a weird thing but makes sense. It wasn’t even on their equipment but they helped me figure it out. The ladies who answer the phone when I call to pay my bill are also nice. Good folks all around.

Worst customer service I have ever had. They advertise speed plans but throttle your connection if you go over the speed. Currently paying for a 9mb plan and getting 0.35mb. Advanced tech support says there is nothing they can do. I have been with Western Broad band for years and it has steadily gotten worse over the years. Cancelling my service.

We have had Western Broadband for several years. We have been experiencing very slow internet speeds over the past few weeks yet we pay $149.95 a month for their highest speed available. We were also experiencing web pages not opening and telling us to run the Diagnostic tool. This is on every computer in our office. We have called their customer service several times only to be told by Chris it is due to our Carbonite back up (which we have been using for over 5 years without these issues). Then when we call in and get the female employee who states she is the supervisor she tells us it has nothing to do with Carbonite and we need a new router and maybe have Geek squad come out. We purchased a new router and had geek squad come out. Geek squad noticed the wiring Western Broadband had coming into the building was incorrect and stated it should be fixed. We called Western Broadband back again only to be told again the wires were fine and we would need to hook a computer directly up to the ethernet cord they have running into the building and allow them to see if issues on that 1 and only computer still continued. Expecting us to shut down our business for at least AN HOUR while they watched what was happening. The only computer near that ethernet cord is used strictly for clocking in and out. We have nothing else pertaining to work on that computer. So how would that help? Apparently they want us to move a computer from one of the offices into the lobby and connect it directly to the ethernet cord. Seriously. All because they do not have techs to send out. UNLESS OF COURSE YOU ARE HAVING A NEW INSTALL DONE then they have a tech standing by. When we just called in again today Chris tried to sell us a different package with supposedly better-faster internet speeds. Its just $50.00 more bucks a month. Well again we were already paying supposed for their fastest internet speed ($149.99) per month and not getting it. Very unprofessional. would not recommend. Sad we have been loyal customers for over 5 years and this is how we get treated.

Weve been living in a brand new rural community for almost 6 years now. Western Broadband was the only reliable service in our area the at the time, we still use there services. No serious issues, every month we have to reset our router but thats it. We have a online homeschooler, alarm system, and we do a lot of streaming. So it works for us..

Let me help the people of the area and save you money . The technicians and billing personal both assured me that in my rural area I would have good service, well that was not posible . Therefor I decided to cancel within the 30 day time period that I was told .Now i was waiting for a refund but a lovely lady for the customer service denied my refund so asked to speak to a supervisor. Now this amazingly nice lady came on the line and stated I was not getting a refund for the service cause per there cancelation policy, I needed to offer them an opportunity before canceling. When I call in and you dont answer , I left two messeges and spoke to someone about canceling service befor I got locked in to horrible service . Now they have stolen my money to make them feel better . Moral of the story do not use this service with out giving them the opportunity to fix there unsatisfactory service. Or just go to another service . P.S. they all like to bash HughesNet and i just got my money back from my CC Card so I came out on top

Ive been happy with Western Broadband for the past few years and I have to say the quality of connection is great! Steady connection with great ping. Speeds are also consistent. Much much better than other providers in the area.Downside: Speeds to price ratio. Advertised connection speeds are so slow and the price is high. Hopefully this will change with advances in LTE and 5g tech. One can hope anyway.

First off I just want to let western broadband know that using the word “broadband” in your name means that you provide speeds of over 25 Mbps, that being said even in your own website you say that it can only “burst” to speeds up to 20 Mbps for shorts periods of time, THATS CALLED FALSE ADVERTISING AND ITS ILLEGAL! Second of all my family is paying for “Standard plan” which costs 60$ a month and says that we should get up to 15 Mbps, well I’ve never had above 4 Mbps and whenever there is people at my home I get .77 Kbps. You should probably change your name or change your internet.

I missed one on time payment and they shut off my service about two weeks after the missed payment. True - I missed the payment, my fault. But imagine if this was my heating and I missed one payment and two weeks later they shut it off? It’s an absurd policy in my opinion. I feel there needs to be a bit of a grace period for customers, and not a shut off service not until after the second missed payment or a second reminder.

I was charged for a full month of service (only used for 5 days) because I didn’t give a 30 day notice to disconnect- when selling a home you have to wait until financing goes thru and that’s not always 30 days prior to the time you move. Internet connectivity was okay considering it’s dsl, except after 4pm and on weekends. I would not use this company in the future.

Im a current customer. Only because I have no other options. These people are pirates. I work for an ISP who unfortunately does not cover my area. Ive been working in this industry for many years and I have never even heard of the price gouging that these people do. It should be illegal. Its definitely immoral. People taking advantage of poor folks in the country with no other options. Theyre definitely better than HughesNet. Ill give them that. But they should be ashamed of themselves for their business model. It makes me sick to have to pay them every month. If you have any other options at all - Id take them.

Ive unfortunately had them for years due to it being them or huges net, which sadly is worse then them, no other options. No responses over the weekends for outages, price gouging, but their CSRs are nice when you can reach them. I pay more than double than my mom who lives 7 miles away, and she has faster speeds than I do. Its frustrating beyond no belief how much I pay on top of the outages with no one to reach for help. In the past during an outage when I had reached someone, they always told me it looked fine on their end. If you can, use someone else. If youre stuck like me, Im sorry.

DESTROYED OUR HOME - They uninstalled the antenna from our new home and destroyed the stucco. They left a mess and refuse to pay for fixing. Their manager Julia advised they are not qualified to make repairs but would send someone out to paint over it... They pointed out in the contract they are not liable for damages, its obvious they are not respectful of other peoples property nor diligent with their work.In regards to service, why did we terminate service? Speeds always metered less than advertised. Connection drops often or bandwidth chokes down to nothing. Multiple service calls resulting in it looks like your speeds are fine on our end. Ultimately, we cancelled our service and went with a cell-based ISP.

Ive been in the IT support business for 11 years and interacting with Western Broadband for 10 of those years. They are not perfect. Neither is my company. But they have always been responsive to us and helped us when there are problems. Their tech is solid: land line to microwave to the customer rooftop. We have a couple of commercial accounts with them and, in one case, an office of 15 users just hums along and has for years. For another customer Ive replaced DSL with Western Broadband and been really happy with the results. The prices are what they are. It is not cheap to supply bandwidth like this and they have a huge overhead for equipment and service so in my opinion what they provide is well priced. We have and will continue to recommend them.

After years of dealing with Skybeam & then Rise Broadband, Western Broadband has my vote. The tech was good—placed the outside dish deal where we requested it & the speed is fantastic compared to the almost dial up speed I had with Rise & I was paying $86/month to them for their so called high speed. I’ve had no difficulties so far. Western is a much better option for the Coupland area than Rise.

These guys have a monopoly in rural areas with their high speed internet. i was paying close to $300/ month for 15 download and 5 upload, their BEST residential plan (Which is laughable considering did 2 tours to Iraq and they had significantly faster speeds in a 3rd world country). as you can imagine NOTHING was able to be reliably streamed or worked on if it required internet. tired of living in the stone age i called and asked if they higher speeds. they have business plans which go up to 60 aggregate MBS (you can do 40 download 20 upload, 50/10, etc) i said wow that sounds great lets do it. come to find out that requires a $1000 installation fee and then $650/month. WHAT?! these people are out here charging car notes for mediocre internet because there are only 2 companies to choose from and they know it. i would recommend to stay away if you can help it, not very helpful and they dont care about you as a customer. at least that was my experience.

Review №32

Western Broadband provides the kind of Internet connection that looks good on paper and looks good on speed tests, but in actual use is unbearably slow and unreliable. As I understand it, Western Broadband offers a sort of boost feature that dynamically increases the bandwidth available for a short amount of time during streaming or downloading. I have often experienced the exact opposite. When starting a download, there will often be a short period where the speeds are as expected, but after about 5 to 10 seconds, the download speeds tend to drop to about ~200 to ~100 kb/s, which makes it very difficult to download anything larger than 10 to 20 megabytes.I am absolutely certain that this is not, as another reviewer suggested, an issue with my router. I have tried multiple different routers and have experienced the same inconsistent downloads and inexplicable drops in speed. Western Broadbands Internet seems as if it was designed for small households of one to two people who infrequently use the Internet and might not notice such drops in speed. For a family of five, this is unacceptable, and often times unusable. As for Western Broadband support, I have had unreliable experiences. When I noticed that port forwarding was not working on my connection, I called support and was told that I would receive an email detailing how to set up port forwarding. The email never came, and when I called support again, they said they would resend it, which never happened. The third time calling, I reached a different technician who told me that it would not be possible to allow port forwarding unless I paid an extra $20 a month. All in all, I would avoid Western Broadband unless it is the only option for where you live, as it is for my home. They provide slow, unreliable, and overpriced Internet.

The 5-stars reviews, note that they have never reviewed anything else, offer no information, etc. They only created a Google account just to give this company a good rating? Sounds suspicious. I am pretty sure they are fake reviews from the company. So that should give you some idea of the integrity of the company.Their service is pretty poor. I pay $150 per month ($165 after tax) for 10+ down, but I never get anything more then about 2. I have been testing it every few days and at different times of the day and it is always the same. Yeah, speed tests are not perfect, but they are close enough. The company said the connection is shared but since I am paying $150, they guarantee 10 or more for my plan. But I never see more than about 2.9. If it rains or gets too windy, it goes out. I suspect that means that the power of the signal is really weak coming off the tower.I have a new $300 router and I have worked in IT for about 25-years, owed a few companies and built all of my own networks, etc. I also have two extra routers, that I took out of my business a few years ago, and I have the same problem with those as well. I use my DishTv for TV and the same issues happen over the Wireless Bridge (the DishTv wireless router) as well. So Im pretty confident the issue is on their end, not mine.Im going to drop my package down to the 2+ package, as that is all I every get anyway. So why pay $150 for the same speed as the $50 package. We are getting a second company in the neighborhood, so if I have a chance I will change.

Ok, we live in the country.. so we have 2 basic options- satellite or Western broadband- and we have tried both.... This may not be the worlds fastest internet, but it is no too bad, and it works. The IT staff here are AMAZING. Leave a message-they WILL CALL you back. They have helped me when router problems and even talked me through buying a good router without spending a bunch of money. You pick your speed level and the monthly price goes up with the faster you WANT.... but i am on a midlevel plan and the price is not that bad... when i was with satellite my bill was MUCH higher because of the price per use. If you are a new person in the country they will come to your house- free- to see if they can even provide you with a good signal prior to service contract starting. Great company- dont let the reviews stop you from trying- i think some people dont understand that when you live in the middle of nowhere you will not get Austin level speeds.

Paying one hundred and fifty dollars a month for them supposedly give me their amazing “top speed” internet. I tell them they’re consistently giving me worse internet than their lowest package and they tell me “4 to 6 weeks” to fix it for three months now. Paying for 15 download 3 upload and getting 1.8 down with 0.142 upload. I’m convinced the top review scores are fake accounts or people living in the past because their archaic tech can’t support my family’s handful of devices. And a side note for anyone curious- 15mbps DN and 3UP is laughable “first world country” internet speed. It’s embarrassing as an American for people to normalize being okay with engorged pricing for below sub-par speeds.

I would use this company any day especially with the lack of availability in our area here in Georgetown Texas. We live on the west side of I 35 and we have not had any problems with this company. Prior to signing up with western broadband we used a company called SOS high-speed Internet. When we first signed up with them they assured us that they were no downtimes shortly there after we experienced many down times when I called to check And see if there was a reason why we couldn’t get service may be a tower down or working on something that lady that answered the phone immediately connected me to their technician intern he got mad very easily during our conversation and said he was going to just turn us off with no notice. Within 15 minutes she had turned our Internet we had nothing to use and had to use a neighbor to complete The connection with the business that we were running for the day we contact the owner in which she agreed to turn it back on until we could sign up with another company we called western broadband and they showed up within two days and we’re back in business. When I called SOS owner back to inform him that we had change companies and they had already booked us up He said I am surprised you were able to get service that quick however that’s great will just connect you now bye.I would never recommend using SOS. I don’t care what kind of deals they have it is not worth it it did not work and was down more than it was up plus they are very rude and less they have changed owners they have posted signs all over our neighborhood and our advertising on Facebook. I havent even began using the internet and I am extremely disappointed already. This is the only internet provider that currently provides in my area, but I still had a few questions before deciding to get it. When I first called, I spoke to a man named Chris who seems very unpleased with his job and was not very helpful at all. I was asking many question about the plan I should get and which one would be recommended for what I am using it for and his answer was uhh I dont know, just get the basic and if thats not working good enough, call us and we will fix it. Not the best answer. So then I begin asking how it works as I am unfamiliar with satellite internet and he vaguely explained it and said I should just be able to plug it up to my computer and be good to go. So I scheduled for them to come hook it up. He did not tell me about the 1 year contract I was supposed to sign, that on some new computers an adapter is needed for the Ethernet cable or that I would have to purchase my own router, and he also didnt even know what my total would be. When I asked, because I would have to have somebody else at my house since I had work and needed to write a check, he said uhh its the first month and the installment fee plus tax which the actual price could have been easily looked up or he could have asked somebody else, because when the installer got here, he made a quick phone call to ask and all he said on the phone was whats the total at installment for the basic? And was told an amount. I am already beyond frustrated with this customer service, or at least Chris. I have spoken to him several times and not a single time has been pleasant. I called him again today when I got home and tried to use my internet but couldnt just plug it in and be good to go and he then told me about the adapter I would need. I then proceeded to ask him why he didnt tell me about the needed router or the one year contract and he said we usually tell you about all of that when we schedule the installment He did apologize, but those are things customers need to know.

We have used Western Broadband as our internet provider since moving to Weir, Tx in August of 2014. We have had nothing but problems with the quality of their service and their customer service representatives. We are paying $65 a month for 2 megabytes/sec - this means is that we are paying twice the amount for 1/4 of the service through any other provider. We are told we can pay $20 more a month and be moved up to 5 megabytes/sec. Example: Time Warner Cable charges $29.99 for 50 megabytes/sec. We are in a small town so we have no other choice, but to go with this company if we want internet in our home.We have spent hours upon hours on the phone with tech support to figure out why our internet drops every evening at 10 pm (oddly the same time the company closes), so there is no way to even troubleshoot the problem. When we are able to speak with someone about the problem we are met with rude customer service agents that tell us it is our fault and our problem. That they cannot and will not do anything to help. I asked to speak with a manager and was told that since it is a small company there are no higher ups to speak with, leaving us with absolutely no recourse in fixing the issue. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to be stuck in a contract with a company that refuses to even address the problem.
