Jesse has dedicated the last 30+ years of his life to learning how the human body works and how it moves into and out of pain. Ive been blessed to have had multiple opportunities to work with and learn from him. The best part, you dont even have to BE in pain to benefit from his work! Check out his offerings online and do your body a great favor :)

Jesse James is a superb teacher; obviously expert, encouraging, and attentive to the needs of each student. He is generous and verbally and visually gives clear directions. This a great class for anyone who wants to repair the body through movement, and to learn movements that can be explored on your own. It is an excellent arena to experience directly how different parts of your body are feeling in the moment, to honor that and to also explore movements that support your body’s strength and mobility.

I had my first experience working with Jesse while on a trip to Austin, and I only wish I lived closer so I could take advantage of his expertise all the time. At almost 69, I want to keep my body as fit and flexible as possible. Balance can be an issue as one ages, and the work Jesse did with me hit all those goals at once. Also, it was fun, and he intuitively knew how much to push me so I stayed right at my edge but didnt injure myself. The wisdom of his words have stayed with me and I am practicing the simple, but profound training he put me through. Very grateful and appreciative of all the years hes put into his own growth so he can share from such a grounded place.

I came in with the most serious back injury I had ever experienced. I wasnt able to sleep at night and was having nerve and muscle pain like nothing Id ever felt, without understanding why.The care that Jesse took to understand the root cause of the issue (that actually goes back years) was unrivaled to anything Ive experienced with previous injury rehabilitation. After a couple weeks of working with Jesse through different movements patterns and exploratory exercises we figured out what the root cause was and I immediately improved.I would equate his methods to the wax on, wax off off rehabilitation training, no quick cheap results but instead long lasting improved health and better understanding of whats actually happening with your body.

I am very happy to recommend Jesse at The Art of Fitness. He has helped me both by teaching me healthy movements and with massage. I have been able to regain pain-free movement in various joints and to proceed with more confidence in my daily movements. I am becoming more aware every day that movement is central to health and that Jesse can be trusted to guide me in how to add more movement into my routine.

Jesse has been a great help with increasing my flexibility and stability. Though I am an avid 64 year old walker (hiked the Milford Track in NZ and toured Turkey, China and Big Bend) with Jesses help, using the foam roller and stability exercises I feel better when I walk, less pain and more confident in my abilities. When my grandson is born this month I feel sure Ill have the stamina and flexibility to keep up with him. Thanks Jesse.

I am a very active guy that unfortunately broke down my body over the course of thousands of miles running. I was feeling pretty hopeless about my future as a runner and needed help figuring out 1) how to repair past damages 2) how to properly move so that future damages can be minimized/prevented.After working with Jesse for a three months Im back running 3-4 times per week with a long run lasting 1.5-2 hours. I have exercises that make me feel confident in my motion. Not only do I feel like I can be a better runner but I notice times when I am more comfortable sitting, I can get off the ground gracefully, and my posture is better.I would recommend Jesse if you are an athlete that wants to perform at a higher level or if you are a body conscientious person that wants to ensure the ability to move as you age.

Jesse has been extremely professional, knowledgeable and thoughtfully directive in my training sessions. He is careful to emphasize exercises which promote increased range and restoration of movements which have been limited by lifestyle and health issues. His approach integrates fitness into everyday routines, which is super important in implementing what Ive learned during the sessions. I would highly recommend Jesse as a trainer for people with all levels of fitness needs.

Movement therapy with Jesse at the Art of Fitness has had a profound impact on my life. He has helped me reduce recurring back and knee pain, and is helping me restore and preserve my mobility. The impact is felt in lots of little ways too, like how much easier it is to get up out of a chair or off the floor. And my experience working with Jesse has been awesome. He is always supportive, encouraging, and flexible. I feel like he meets me where I am on my journey, and helps me take the next steps (even when that path swerves or detours). I wholeheartedly recommend the Art of Fitness.

Movement therapists are not just for athletes! Jesse James was able to determine a weakness in my right hip and customized some easy exercises to strengthen my core. I really dont like going to the gym or using machines, to my delight I didnt have too. Jesse James invites you to embrace your inner child and use items at home or as you go about your day. His sessions are very accessible, hes caring and patient, and absolute delight to be around! I now feel stronger and more empowered!

My knee was buckling out from beneath me and feeling very unstable, Jesse James laid hands on me, and now Im freaking fine. 😮Well, actually much more than that happened in the session but I am much improved! I have movement homework as well as another appointment to continue to improve some imbalances and get my nervous system to respond more appropriately when loaded...but all in all it was amazing. Go to a doctor when youre sick, go to Jesse James when youre hurt.

Jesse is fantastic. Ive been seeing him for months now and I am learning how to move better and keep my body happier. Overall I am experiencing less pain and when I do have it, it lasts less. I always feel better after I do my corrective exercises. My specific pain includes low back, hip and knees. I highly recommend Jesse and The Art of Fitness.

My work started with Jesse James when a chiropractor said there wasnt much more he could do for me after seeing me for over a year. I had been through 2 chiropractors before that, and a variety of other specialists, none of whom could put a dent in my chronic back problems.Within 5 sessions, Jesse James had taught me how to heal myself. He taught me the principles and techniques for getting my muscles to finally release after years of dysfunction. Not only am I eternally grateful for what he taught me, I just so appreciate Jesses level of integrity, ethics, and personal care. He is an excellent communicator, a consummate professional committed to continual learning, and a knowledgeable and insightful practitioner.I cannot recommend his practice more highly, and have referred many friends to him already!

So I am not an athlete. I am a 50 year old overweight single mom who works too much and has tons of stress. Most of the time I am last on my list of things to do. I drive a lot for work and my body doesnt get enough TLC. So last night I awoke with searing pain in my mid back so much that I couldnt get back to sleep. What did I do? I said WWJD? (what would Jesse do) I turned on the light and logged into Jesses website and began following his videos to restore and explore my movement and help relieve my pain. His work has helped me so many times and in so many ways. In his office, he fixed my chronically painful foot after I incorrectly decided that I was a runner LOL. And he fixed my excruciating neck pain that would not respond to medication, x-rays and 2 months of physical therapy. And now my back with just his videos! Thanks Jesse for being there for me even at 4am!

I was one of Jesses first (may THE first) personal training clients back in the 90s. I was impressed by his meticulous attention to form. I attribute the strength I achieved to surviving a motorcycle accident in 2001 that could have easily broken by neck and back. I totaled both the car I hit and my bike, flew over the car and landed on my back in the street. I only suffered a badly broken arm. Jesse brought my 1 pound of pennies while I was in the hospital to start gaining some strength back. He is awesome.

I recently went to see Jesse for a neck issue as a result of a car accident months ago. Ive been to other therapists, healers, chiropractors with either no relief or very temporary relief.Where other chiropractors just go through the typical motions, Jesse really customizes the session to your issues and takes a lot of time to get to the underlying issue that is causing the pain or lack of movement. I was really impressed with his range of tools and skills and, his willingness to fully explain what he was doing and why. Plus he gave me homework that I could do between sessions. If youve been getting the same old adjustments with the same old results, you owe it to yourself and your body to give Jesse at the Art of Fitness a try!

I’ve been training with Jesse for about six months now and as a woman in her sixties with loads of medical “issues,” my progress with him has been substantial. I’ve tried to get healthy many times in the past and was rewarded, at best, with limited success and, at worst, (and this is under the supervision of a trainer at a costly gym) with a broken bone.My medical realities include a hip replacement, knee surgery, and rotator cuff shoulder surgery. When I started training with Jesse my goals were to gain strength and stability for the purpose of continued movement. (The fact that I have more muscle tone and lost inches and weight is “icing” on my fitness cake.)I have seen much progress in the last couple of months and have come to really appreciate the added value that working with Jesse brings to my fitness goals. Other trainers can work with you to rebuild strength. However, Jesse provides his unique knowledge of muscle and massage. I really appreciate the intermittent massage I get after a couple of weeks of hard training. I always seem to tighten up, even after my own foam rolling (which he taught me) at home. Jesse can always go deeper into the muscle release the kinks I am unable to find. His background in physical training and massage therapy are especially critical to the fitness goals of baby boomers, in my opinion. One other aspect of working with Jesse that has been especially noteworthy is his emphasis on balance. The most extreme of my own physical injuries resulting in surgeries were the result of falling down or tripping. A flight of stairs, an ice-covered street, and an uneven sidewalk were catastrophic for me. Falling or tripping can be especially dangerous for people my age. Doing exercises that focus on maintaining balance is yet another added value to working with Jesse. He has told me, “If you trip, or are about to fall, your body can recover unconsciously, just like when you touch a hot surface you move away automatically, your brain doesn’t have to think, “Oh, that’s hot. Move your hand.” Sure enough, last week I looked a head at a friend I was meeting and didn’t see a couple of steps immediately underneath me. I dropped my purse and a couple of things I was holding yet without even thinking, my body adjusted to the lack of secure footing and I regained my balance without falling down. What a relief! What a blessing! Great job, Jesse! If there is a “seasoned” baby boomer in your life (yourself included) it behooves you to share my story with her or him. You’ll be glad you did.

I recently hurt my arm doing something not that bright (moving something that needed 4 people not just 1) but regardless I went on with my life for about two weeks or so and it just got worse and worse... so bad to the point of me not being able to pick up my coffee in the morning without my elbow catching fire!!! I heard about The Art of Fitness from a local group and I contacted Jesse to see what I could do with this issue. He scheduled me in right away to take a look! Not only did he make my arm feel sooo much better but he helped me understand why it hurt and how it all works PLUS he gave me some stretches/exercises to do on my own to help the healing process! I will for sure be going back to The Art of Fitness to not only keep the healing process on my arm but to also work on the rest of the kinks and issues I have been just dealing with for the past years! I highly recommend The Art of Fitness!!!!!!!! So stop just dealing with the pain and go see The Art of Fitness!!!

Ive been seeing Jesse for some issues with my lower back for some time now, an weve been making steady progress over time. But recently he started to perform a new-to-me style of massage technique called NKT and I have seen noticeable improvements. I cant tell you that I fully understand NKT but I can tell you that through doing the sessions and the homework Ive seen a significant improvement in a short period of time. Ive had far fewer bad back days and many more good back days. I credit Jesse with realizing that I could potentially benefit from NKT and for administering it properly. Thanks Jesse!

For a little over a year, Ive sought out treatment for my plantar fasciitis. Physical therapy, cortisone injections and orthotics were all costly and unsuccessful. I was referred to Jesse by a friend who is a massage therapist. In the three months Ive been working with Jesse, my foot pain has disappeared! From him, I have learned many movement strategies that will help me maintain a pain-free life. Jesse really cares about his clients, and I would recommend him to anyone suffering from pain.

I have known Jesse since I was a sophomore in high school and he was a junior at Austin High. We have remained friends and in and out of each others lives for over 20 years now. I started seeing Jesse for my physical issues several months ago. First, a history of my body and injuries... I was a competitive gymnast for many years, starting gymnastics at the age of 3 years old and continuing until I was 16. That in itself will provide many injuries and issues in a body. At the age of 16, I started competitively showing horses in eventing (dressage, show jumping, and cross country jumping). At the age of 18 I had become the manager of a 30 horse boarding facility and was riding up to 5 horses a day, doing conditioning gallops for up to 40 minutes at a time, as well as jumping, and dressage. I was also cleaning 16 stalls a day and lifting 50 pound feed sacks and hay bales on a regular basis. I have a small 52 frame as well as hyper-mobile joints, and needless to say I was severely abusing my body unbeknownst to me. My severe pain issues started at the age of 16 with piriformis syndrome which was mistakenly diagnosed as bursitis. In addition, I have suffered from Major Depressive Disorder from the age of 12. This diagnosis changed to Bi-polar Disorder at the age of 27. Emotions can take a serious toll on the physical body and I held on to so many deep emotions that my body reflected this and over the years, my body had gradually gotten more and more painful. Add a couple serious car accidents to the mix... So I was diagnosed with arthritis of the facet joints in my lumbar spine at the age of 38; had plantar fasciitis in both feet, complete with bone spur in one; have a ganglian cyst in my wrist; recurrent tendonitis in my elbow; most likely arthritis in my neck (unconfirmed); serious knee problems in my right knee; and a shoulder that is so out of wack that it is somewhat useless. I have tried conventional medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic, energy medicine, herbs, etc. Then I rediscovered Jesse... In the past several months, using NKT, he has made serious progress in getting to know my body, releasing so much of my pain and changing my compensation patterns to allow my body to truly heal. I cannot say enough positive things about Jesse. He is truly a gifted healer that cares deeply about his clients and really wants them to become pain free and healthier. I would recommend him to anyone who is ready to change their life and move towards a pain free and healthy body. He is truly amazing! Thank you Jesse!!
