Fine enough job for a simple repair on my kid’s car, I was tied up the day it was complete and they left a message that next day telling me it was incurring storage fees and would be disposed of if not picked up promptly. Really? Won’t return.*Adding after owner reply: It was a while ago/several years but I see the business is asserting this was not them. Sorry, dude, you did it. Perhaps you don’t any more but gotta own your history.

Initial contact and appointment process was great. There seems to be a lack of communication between the front office and shop. Diagnosis was not as discussed on phone and repair did not resolve the problem. Mechanic then suggested another appointment for the diagnosis process initially discussed on the phone. Al’s Certified had my car for 45 minutes for an inspection sticker then when I went to the front desk to see how much longer it was going to be, they told me they were just finishing up and the car passed but the registration was expired so I would have to come back to get the sticker. I came back the next day with my new registration then they told me it would be 15-20 minutes. My husband asked if it would be better to come back another time but the front desk assured us someone was free now and that it always takes that long for paperwork. I have never waited that long for a sticker before. I had to go back to work so my husband stayed for the car then dropped it off for me. Somehow I ended up with the wrong registration and I got a call from Shane saying he would meet me to swap them out. I was working so I left the registration at the front desk. Al’s is a three minute walk from my work so I called after I finished an appointment to see if they were on their way. Shane told me he was headed out the door now. He did come and swap them out and everything ended up ok but that was the worst experience for a sticker I have ever had and will not be using them again. I still do not understand how I ended up with someone else’s registration when the cars weren’t even similar make, year, or model. No attention to detail. Huge red flag.

Shameful and a disgrace that AAA would even recommend such a place and that they would take such advantage of anyone like this is an outrage.Over $3000, a month without a vehicle to get to and from work, and a vehicle that dies again a week later!! The Als Certified Auto Repair is one of the most largehearted group of people I have ever met. Along our route for the Hemmings Great Race 2018 they kept the doors open to make sure our car was running the way it was made in 1952. We were experiencing a handful of issues all of which were quickly diagnosed, resolved and tested. Its places like this that really remind myself and our team that good people still exist. We come from New York City and Connecticut where youd be lucky if someone stuck around late or even took the care to look for other issues. I would highly recommend Als to anyone in need of auto repair.

Brought my 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander in for the first time on November 3 due to the vehicle not running properly and the check engine light being illuminated. At the time I requested check engine light diagnostics and an oil change/tire rotation. It was found that the cause of the check engine light was misfire detected on all cylinders and it was recommended that the spark plugs be replaced, which I agreed to have completed. With in an hour of picking up my car and while driving the check engine light came back on, brought the car back in order to have the error code read to determine what needed to be done to fix. Was told that it was a catalytic converter code and further diagnostics were needed, the shop could not schedule the car to come back into the shop until December 4th, needless to say I could not drive my car while waiting for the appointment so as not to further damage the engine. Diagnostics on Dec 4 determined a failed catalytic converter and it was recommended that a new one be installed. I agreed to the replacement. The time frame I was given for the repair to be completed was a week due to needing to have parts ordered and shipped. On Dec 11 at 330pm the day I was supposed to have my car back I was called and told my car would not be ready until Dec 18th due to a error and the incorrect parts having been recieved, I was accommodating and agreed to the extension to get the correct parts ordered and installed. Dec. 17 I was called and told my car would not be ready on the 18th due to a storm and parts not being able to be delivered until Dec 21. And that my car would be ready by end of business on Dec 22. I picked up my car and paid the bill to the tune of 2400$ and everything seemed fine that is until yesterday Dec 29th when the check engine light came back on was flashing and my car stalled in traffic while driving. I luckily was able to get it to restart and out of the roadway. I had the car towed to a Mitsubishi dealership for diagnostics. I will not be bringing my car back to this establishment again. Twice I brought the car in for diagnostics of the check engine light both times the symptoms i gave were the same and both times the issue was not fully resolved. The third time of this issues reoccurrence could have had deadly consequences. At this time I feel that I was misled to believe that my car needed very costly repairs as a bandaid fix instead of actual real diagnostics being done to determine the root cause of the issue and what needed to be done to fully correct the issue.

It took me a while to write this review, because I take writing reviews seriously and wanted to be sure this was accurate. I went to Als for a couple of years at least, and quite honestly I thought the same way as many others did based on all the positive reviews. Al and his staff are polite and courteous, and when they diagnose your vehicle they present you with a very thorough printed report with color pictures, although it can be a little much at times. I trusted them and spent A LOT of money there between my two vehicles. The reason I stopped going and for this somewhat negative review is they quoted me for another expensive repair on my car while doing a courtesy inspection when it was in for an oil change. Said I had to get this repair done in order for my car to pass state inspection that was due within a month. Out of curiosity I took the car to another garage that was also highly recommended for a second opinion, and come to find out I did not need this repair done, and my car passed state inspection just fine without spending more money for an expensive repair. I cant say this happens to everyone that goes to Als, but it did happen to me. Its been about two years since I stopped going to Als and I still have not had to do the expensive repair they quoted me back then. I would highly recommend getting a second opinion if you are presented with an unexpected repair quote. Thank you.

Was vacationing in ME last week and our car broke down. AAA recommended Al’s Certified Auto Repair. Mike and John were fantastic. The car was towed into their shop. They immediately put it on the lift and told us what was wrong. John ordered the parts for delivering the next day. They got us hooked up with Enterprise Car Rental. As promised, the car was ready at 1:00 the next day. They fixed the car and did a complete car inspection. Being from out of state, you always wonder weather you’re going to be taken advantage of. Not the case with Al’s. We highly recommend them. Friendly and honest guys.

My mother in-law went here because it was the default tow location for AAA. Her $115 alternator (with 2 bolts and a wire) went out; she doesnt have enough mechanical knowledge to even understand what an alternator is. Anyways, they gave her a wordy printout with color pictures and jargon she doesnt understand - in the end they recommended one new caliper because it was rusty ($300), new front brakes ($850), and a long list of other overpriced simple repairs. In the end, she paid $700+ for a new alternator - OUTRAGEOUS PRICE.This is preditory, unethical, and should not be legal.

My daughter was returning home to Addison after visiting us last weekend and broke down in Augusta. She called AAA and had the misfortune of being towed to Als. I subsequently talked with Mike and he told me her car had a bad oil leak or whoever changed oil spilled oil all over the place and ruined the belt and alternator and would cost over 900.00 to replace the aforementioned 2 items, without finding (cost of source of oil leak. He also stated that tire was flat and ruined from driving on it. I told him I would have car towed out of there ( cost of belt and alternator from Rock auto 200.00). This guy wants 700.00 + to randr alt. and belt, highway robbery. He charged 60.00 for diagnosis, I asked him to plug tire, he charged me 51.50 to do that, claiming he had to dismount and patch tire according to state regs, what a ripoff, turns out tire was fine and was not ruined as Mike claimed. Total scam artist, I am putting in formal complaint with state of Maine and AAA. I wouldnt trust this guy to repair a wheelbarrow.

Just got back from a trip to Maine for vacation. Unfortunately while driving, my Yukon experienced a lack of power. I googled auto repair in Augusta and found ACAR. I called knowing they probably wouldnt get me in right away, and was pleased that they worked with me. I dropped it off and went to a restaurant while they worked on my truck. Within an hour they had it diagnosed and called with an estimate. No one likes car repairs, especially while on vacation. They kept me informed, squeezed me in, and very professionally took care of me. When I picked it up several hours later, I met the owner Al. What a great guy! He even recommended some places to see while in Maine. Als Certified went above and beyond, and the prices were VERY reasonable. They saved my vacation from being destroyed. My husband and I were visiting family in Maine and we ran into some issues with our car and we had it towed to Al’s shop and we could not begin to express how grateful we are! Al who is the owner of the shop is fantastic!! Al really knows what he is doing and is extremely knowledgeable about cars and he is honestly the best mechanic that we have ever been to, He really knows cars inside and out! He was able to find the source of the problem and to fix the issue and get our car up and running again pretty quickly for us. His wife was also at the shop and she is the sweetest lady! We highly highly recommend everyone and anyone who needs any work done to go to Al’s repair shop even if you live 45 minutes out, because it is worth it! If there is something wrong with your car, they will find it and fix it without screwing you around like some repair shops do. Horrible place to do business at.. as a long time retired former Master mechanic I was appalled at their prices and how much they try and charge. The cost of parts is more than double and shop time is exaggerated in their favor. Called for a simple estimate for my daughters starter and what a racket at this place, talk about greedy their cost for the starter was more than double what the starter cost and shop time was 2 hrs at 100hr If it takes a mechanic two hrs to install a starter he needs to find a different job. I called a different place and had the work done for half the cost and had a good chuckle with the other garage about Al’s Certified Chop shop , take it from a fella who’s been in the business for a lifetime and just drive on bye when you see this hack shack ! My son recently had his exhaust system replaced here. The staff and help was very nice. They got the car in very quickly and fixed quick. This would be the end of the good things about this place. They charged him for a factory cadillac converter ($750) and $1168 for new exhaust. I had two mechanics look at the exhaust after it was fixed. The new cadillac converter was a aftermarket one $70-$150 for one of theses, no new pipe down the middle of the system and maybe a new muffler. This should have cost under $300 but they charged $1168 for something they didnt even do. I guess in northern Maine we try to use everybody fairly but down to Augusta they try to put it to you. My son is trying to make a living and raise 3 little kids and there are people down their just trying to put the screws to you. I can not believe that you would charge him for all that work and put on aftermarket parts and charge the same price as Chrysler parts would have been. So watch out if you need work to your exhaust system at Als because they will put the screws to you too.

I was stranded in Augusta with a nonfunctional vehicle and a large bag of perishable groceries, in 90-degree heat. After stowing my groceries in his refrigerator, Al figured out an ASAP game plan for fitting my car into the repair schedule AND getting me home. Then he and his wife DELIVERED my repaired car the next evening after they closed the shop, as I had no way to get back to Augusta to pick it up. They are always accommodating and do their best, as busy as they are, to be timely and efficient.I DO have to say, lately Ive noticed a positive change in the condition/cleanliness of the vehicles...until today...Theres many people in / out on a daily basis and they can only do what they can do however my ride was $8.50 today even though we had to pick someone else up and share; she paid full rate too.(not just Als, all cabs, I dont get how multiple, INDEPENDENT passengers SHARING cab BOTH pay FULL rate on basically the same ride/distance?) Anyway, back to what I was saying...The car is used to be kind of bad and I know theyve worked pretty hard to improve them and Ive had no complaints! As I said, until today. I opened the door and climbed into the cab and grabbed the inside handle to pull it shut and all of my fingers were instantly wet... when I looked? Disgusted! Brown Mucky water stagnant and pooled inside the door handle... I could literally see debris floating!! Im not saying that they need to be perfect, but for $8.50 plus I offered to / purchased him a over a $2 beverage plus left him a dollar and $0.50 tip... it takes me two hours of work to pay for one round-trip day using a cab song money is not just flowing for me. Again, not specifically with Als their prices are actually a bit more reasonable but they need to realize that usually the people taking their services are in need of their services but of limited means and if companies are going to charge those high prices, which I understand are apparently set by this city and some kind of Zone.. That make no sense... Then they should at least make sure that drivers are expected to maintain the vehicle to a certain level of standard, not perfect but not the condition this car was today :-(I dont want it to seem like Im frowning down on this company! As I said, they have continued to move up in service and from what I understand, customer satisfaction! They definitely have managed to win me back over as my first choice to call! Every aspect from their dispatch to their drivers are usually Pleasant and in Good Moods / chatiw. Ive stopped using other companies because when you call, usually when receiving their owner, it is with a short attitude, a quick temper and a not nice demeanor. So kudos to Als Taxi! Cheers to the great work you guys have done as far as improvements! This recommendation was left just as that, a RECOMMENDATION, not to upset or cause problems, Etc. As you can see, Ive given them 4 out of 5 stars!

Als is very close to where I work, so on several occasions I have brought my vehicle there for service due to the convenience, but have never been satisfied. I hear the owner is a great guy but there always seems to be three front desk people and a lot of separation between the customer and the technician, both of which I suspect are driving their costs up and overall customer experience down. Wanted to like the place.Experience #1: got an oil change, and the oil was way overfilled, which is a danger to the engine. Had to drain the pan a quart when I got home and checked the fill level.Experience #2: did an inspection and needed a few small parts replaced, light bulb, brake fluid sensor. Costs were extremely high. When I asked why, got answers about labor that indicated either they are very slow or including some buffer time in there. Parts mark up was also shocking after I called the dealer for actual pricing. Disappointed to say the least.Experience #3: asked them how much it would cost to replace an emergency brake cable on a very common truck. Very obvious problem and job. Told me they couldnt price it until it was up on the lift. Gave me a call an hour before they close and tell me its going to be an 1.5-2hr job and do I want to do it before they close. On top of the obvious problems with that job description there was a $50 cost for them just to look at it, and that was a discount (30 min) because usually they charge a minimum of 1 hour.Sorry, but thats my experience and I will not be back. There are lots of places in town, and I receive much more transparent service elsewhere

I have been to a couple places that ripped me off for parts and service that I didnt need. Since I have been going to ACAR, I have been more than pleased with the service and treatment of the staff. I am always told what they will do, in advance. They have discussed with me anything they have found that needs repairing and given me an estimate before doing anything. When I left my car there for service, they even gave me a ride home and a ride the next day to get my car when it was finished (Ive never had that service before). They are pleasant and helpful and take into consideration that I cannot afford expensive parts and repairs. Love this place and have already told several people about the great service.

Yes, they always overcharge at Als and they are not honest in many other ways. In 2013 I had a new muffler, tailpipe, & y-pipe installed on my car. I mentioned that the cost was high, however, I was told that the parts mentioned above were under lifetime warranty. Whenever I would need a new muffler, y-pipe, & tailpipe, I would only have to pay for labor. Well, today was the day and I was told the warranty was 3 years max. I wouldnt recommend this company to anyone. I stopped going to this garage awhile back. They were having too much fun cheating me. To those of you who havent awakened yet and are still using this garage, WAKE UP PEOPLE!

This place IS THE ONE TO STAY AWAY FROM..they will charge you for anything they can..including a 3yr labor warranty..like it or not ! 100hr labor rate !...diagnostic fee ..of at least 50.00..an Environmental/shop fee that is way too high....and talk about a parts mark up...they wanted 312.00 for a run of the mill starter that only cost 152.00 retail at the local parts store that they get a significant discount at of course....and no guesstimate over the phone... they will wait until your vehicle is in the shop and hit you with a big repair bill guaranteed...and of course even if you dont like it youll be charged at least 50.00... They tried to charge me almost 580.00 to replace the starter in my GMC pick up truck !! Remove 2 bolts and an hr labor at best !! It takes less than 15min to diagnose a starter ...thats the truth !!... ask any mechanic !! They wanted over 200.00 for labor plus FEES and of course their gold plated part that turned out to be a remanufactured starter from the local auto parts store.. all repair shops get their common automotive parts from the same parts store we get them from and again thats the truth !! ask any mechanic unless you need a dealer only part...I caught them in several lies which they half admitted to and tried to cover up with smoke and mirrors like ... our extra costs are because we guarantee our labor for 3yrs...and the parts are guaranteed... well heres a fact. ..all repair shops guarantee their workmanship and that starter from the local parts store already had a lifetime guarantee.. even the remanufactured one.. call for yourself !! I did and was pretty upset after learning this and even if I wanted to pay the xtra 250.00 at ALS Certified Auto Repair shop for this 3yr labor warranty... I think I would of preferred to make that decision myself not have it magically added to the bill in the form of excessive parts charges..excessive labor rates... excessive labor time and additional fees.So anyway my truck was stuck there. I had it towed there and agreed to the highway robbery... learned a valuable lesson .. read the reviews and write a review which I did immediately so that others wouldnt have to endure this unethical practice. But wait... after posting my review I received a phone call from AL himself.. who offered to lower my repair bill.. to 358.00 still a little on the higher side but hey its cheaper than the 580.00 and who doesnt want to save a buck... but I had to rewrite my last review which I did being a man of my word and Honest Al said.. Ill even leave the higher priced starter in your vehicle... well lo and behold after paying my bill and having the starter looked at...it turned out to be a remanufactured starter afterall for 152.00... Honest ALS at his best ... So this is my honest new review of ALS CERTIFIED AUTO REPAIR.. and its the truth... next time you need quality service at a fair price ... read the reviews and do a little research... the proof is in the facts not the dog and pony show this facility is trying to sell unwary customers.

I looked up reviews of this place before I brought my vehicle here- it had many positive reviews- too good to be true. I dropped off my vehicle with a list of problems- I was very specific- it took them over 4 hours to diagnose the vehicle running diagnostics or whatever- it is an older pickup (1998) not one of the very hi tech ones today- I have travelled all over the country and mechanics I have gone to always diagnose the problem quickly - and this place charged me $240 to diagnose the problems- and charge an ridiculously high price to fix it- it did not sit well with me so I did not want any repairs done there..........and I was stuck with a bill of $240 that they charged to run diagnostics. Ridiculous. It should not have taken over 4 hours to diagnose the problem- unless they have speed limit IQs. Needless to say, I will never go there again and would never recommend them to anyone.

Went in there for a Timing belt that broke. Drove out of there less than 24 hours later and the bill was $625. I was told that the parts alone was $200. looked it up online at NAPA and the retail price was $120 for an entire repair kit including the belt. So, they DOUBLED the price of the parts. The tow truck driver was going to charge me $85 for the tow. The garage told me they would take care of it, now I know why, they turned around and charged me $100...$15.00 more for doing NOTHING.$39.00 for D.E.P charge (I was told that was for chemicals, rags etc.) it was not itemized on the bill as to what was used, but that price seemed really steep to me. $290 for labor. I cant shake the feeling I was taken for a ride. This is why its very hard to trust a mechanic. I will never take my vehicles there again.

Travelling on vacation from Toronto to US and Canadian east coasts. Ran into some car starting problems and called AAA who referred this local auto repair centre in Augusta Maine.Owner Al stopped everything late in the day to give us priority service with quality work at great rates to get us back on the road again and safely home even though were Yankee Fans. Highly recommended to anyone who needs emergency car care.

Al, blue 86 RX-7, plate antique auto 98. I wanted to like Als, but was let down and parts are marked up thru the roof!! The 1st job, the car would not start. Towed to Als, it took them a week to change the sparkplugs and oil and filter. That was $300. There was a problem with a small clutch part, the repair orders are in the car. The blake fluid was WAY overpriced. Then a sloppy repair to the windshield wipers, that had to be taken to another garage, that got the correct parts in 2 days and fixed the wipers properly.

I was referred to ACAR by a friend. I was satisfied with the free snapshot of my vehicle I received when getting an oil change. I went back in for something else, and was misinformed about what I needed. It was a little discouraging, but overall I am satisfied with the work and the friendly staff. I will be going back! I appreciate that ACAR does not take advantage of women like some places do. Its not just about the money to them, they really do care! :)

Even my 10 month old daughter loved the wait for the new inspection sticker (and the rubber duckie). A pleasant experience, Id recommend it.

As usual, my experience at Als left me confident that the issue was correctly resolved. I once tried another garage because of an advertised special on a seemingly simple maintenance issue...what a mistake! I quickly learned that trusting someone else with my vehicle was a bad decision, not to mention costly. I will always trust the work performed at Als.

We recently had some diagnostic work done on our truck for transmission issues after 4 and a half hours later and 375 dollars later they were no help they quoted us a price of 4400 dollars for a remanufactured tranny after some leg work that was over double of any remanufactured transmission we found so customers beware of their price gouging we will never use them again
