I saw Julie Stowasser in 2009. I was 19 years old and had just been put in her batterer’s intervention support group. I had never been to therapy before. I was an angry, depressed, troubled teenager. Now I am a recovered, healthy adult, no thanks to Julie Stowasser.Ive thought of writing this review each year since then and after reading the recent reviews, I am sad to see it doesnt look like she has changed at all, so I wanted to add my experience so others see a different therapist, or maybe she will consider refreshing her skills. She has tons of experience and could probably be of great help to many damaged people, but not in the way she apparently has been treating people-putting others down and building herself up.She point blank told me, after a few groups, “You have the most rage of anyone I have ever had in this group.” She made me feel like a defective monster. I believed what she said and it never left me.I immediately switched to Tisha Benson’s group in South County where I was treated like a person who yes had issues to overcome but was never labeled as anything but someone trying to improve myself.Julie I hope you read this and if you are still treating people like this, please take a hard look at yourself, the way you hope for us your patients to do, and have a bit more compassion for the pain we are experiencing, choose your words wisely, and check your attitude.I dont like leaving negative reviews but I felt I needed to leave this one, as even ten years later as shown by her recent reviews, Julie is still damaging the already incredibly fragile self esteem of her patients.

She thinks very highly of herself and will tell you so. Unfortunately shes convinced other professionals with her self promotion. As a matter of fact, she is the one that does all the talking for the entire therapy session! She brags about being the best EMDR therapist too....it did nothing for me or a family member. When my family member was reluctant to talk, she MADE UP her own story and convinced me it was true! Uuuugh. If there were negative stars, Id give her that! Not worth giving her the benefit of the doubt or returning to see if she gets better....she doesnt. Dont waste your time, money and effort. She must have chosen her career in talk therapy just to hear herself talk!

Terrible therapist. Ive seen other negative reviews abut her but thought we will try. I can tell you that other negative reviews about her were about right. The experience was an absurd and she is so unequipped to dealing with clients that I dont even know how she is still in practice. She is clueless on why people come to therapy, but she will tell you in your face that she thinks she is the best out there. She refuses to communicate with clients outside of her appointments and if she does she will make sure that next time you dont even want to talk or see her.As long as you are not asking her or bothering her about anything (even to clarify here own confusing rules and appointments) and paying her monthly fee of $720 you are fine.Highly NOT recommended. She will waste your time and take your money..go somewhere else.
