Isaac at HVAC design pros was amazing. I reached out to him because he was recommended by the Kimchi and Kraut building blog. They, like me, were trying to build an energy efficient house and discovered that most HVAC contractors werent interested the details of what we were doing. The value of Design Pros, and Isaac specifically was that he did his calculations based on our specific situation...and came back with a solution that was perfect for what we were trying to accomplish.Even moreso, he also took the time to explain some of the more complicated concepts to me, so I not only came away from the experience with a bullet-proof plan...but with the understanding of what made it work so well. I would recommend him to anyone who was doing a project that was at all out of the ordinary. And if youre trying to get a properly sized system for a well insulated house...Design Pros is a perfect choice.

Issac was a delight to work with on our recent Manual J and Manual S HVAC design! When Denver Building Department needed some revisions he helped us make some quick tweaks as well! Cannot rate this business high enough and will certainly be referring friends and family on future projects with the new energy efficiency requirements in Denver. Very reasonable price too! Thanks again Issac!

Best HVAC system design training out there. If you are looking to learn how to design an HVAC system appropriately, look no further. I can confidently say this because of past training and not even close to the level of attention to detail this training offers. I highly recommend the Master Course you will not find better training out there I can guarantee it!!!! I have looked tirelessly for training the Master Course offers, and the support you get from Issac is priceless.

I was skeptical with an online service but Isaac and the team at HVAC Design Pros are a real value. They ask the right questions, complete all of the Manual J,D,S reports and work with the manufacturers to develop the equipment needed. All of the HVAC contractors that I talked to and their rule of thumb designs would have created a very inefficient system. HVAC is one of those things you really want to get right the first time - there is no easy fix if you dont and having to live in a uncomfortable house is no fun. (Just ask your spouse!) They put me in touch with local technical support from the manufacturer as well to work with the installing contractor to make sure its done right. Overall a great experience and as an owner/builder I would recommend them to others.

Unfortunately, my experience with Isaac was dismal at best. The problems I had with Isaacs service were: 1) The value for money simply wasnt there. His pricing is extremely high. I got 3 quotes for designing the HVAC system for a 2500 sf home that were building outside of Asheville. The quotes ranged from a low of $350 to a high (Isaacs quote) of $1300. My wife often says you get what you pay for so I heeded her advice and went with the highest price (which is typically not in my nature), thinking I would get better quality and better expertise. Neither was true. 2) I found Isaac to be arrogant and difficult to work with. He essentially told me to stop asking questions and that he had already invested too much time in my project, yet at no time during our initial discussions did he ever warn me that the meter was running or that I needed to have a strong understanding of HVAC systems to get value from his service (which is certainly necessary if you want to work with him). 3) Despite paying him $1300 (a sum which in hindsight was outrageous for what he did), when I asked him to simplify the ductwork and zoning (after he had been fully paid), he said he would only do that if I paid him an additional $500. His e-mail to that effect was both curt and rude. 4) The quality of the work he produced, especially his drawings, were sub-par -- significantly lower quality than the sample drawings that the $350 designer showed me. 5) Prior to contracting with Isaac, I verified with him that I would get an equipment agnostic design, as I wanted to be able to bid out the equipment. However, what I got from him was a very specific Carrier Infinity spec - arguably one of the most expensive systems on the market. Isaac was unable to recommend any other manufacturers system and seemed to be a Carrier guy. 6) Isaac was very slow in getting drawings back to me for review and took much longer (months) to complete the design than what he originally stated, and I had to regularly chase him for updates. To be frank, the $1300 I paid Isaac was a colossal waste of money. I essentially ended up scrapping what he did and starting over. As you can tell from the above, my experience with Isaac was terrible and I strongly recommend finding an alternative designer if you want a high-quality, reasonably-priced HVAC design.

I had the good fortune of benefitting from Isaac Savage’s HVAC design services in May of 2018.Bottom line:1. I believe Isaac gave me a system design that will result in improved efficiency and comfort compared to what I would have gotten from any local HVAC contractor. Isaac’s load calcs are specific and science-based, a rare thing in my experience (see anecdote, below). The reduced requirements will result in savings in material costs.2. Because Isaac took the time to consider a variety of options—even to the point of designing several iterations—the result is refined and elegant. I expect this investment in planning will result in savings of more than 10% in the installation.3. Working with Isaac educated me about choices like sound vs. airflow from different grilles, return air strategies, and the degree of stratification in large spaces, among many other things. Because I became so well informed, when it came time to interview HVAC contractors, I did not feel at their mercy. In fact I felt confident enough to reject their suggestions of doing “business as usual.”4. I believe separating the design from the installation is now best practice. In almost every case, the combined cost should be less, because the improved design will result not only in improved comfort, but reduced installation costs (many HVAC contractors are incentivized to sell a more expensive design).Anecdote: My current project is an energy efficient and fairly airtight house. Before going to Isaac, I asked for proposals from local HVAC contractors, and I was given a design that may have been appropriate for any other house on the block. When I suggested that the load for my house would be less than three tons for 3400 square feet, one contractor assured me I would not be happy with less than five tons, and he would refuse the job unless I allowed him to give me that much!
