Mike Pellegrino and the whole team of instructors at Mass BJJ Arlington have been great. I am new to Ju Jitsu, a bit older, and not in the best shape of my life, but they have made sure that I can get the most out of the program. They have challenged me while simultaneously understanding where I am starting from. Cant recommend it highly enough.

MassBJJ is an amazing gym! Not only is the staff supportive but so is everyone on the mat. The team here feels like a family. BJJ classes are a fun but also well thought out and safe environment for learning BJJ/self defense and overall fitness with the weights room.

Mike and his instructors are amazing! My 13 year old son has been attending for about a year and we couldn’t be happier. He has learned so much about the art of jujitsu . He has had so much fun, greatly Increased both his fitness and confidence. Through out the pandemic , they have maintained safety and followed all protocols . I recommend BJJ Arlington highly . Additionally, Mike is also a physical therapist which is helpful as challenges may come up .

Mass BJJ has been a great place to learn BJJ, and other martial arts. Mass BJJ have five star teachers, and Mike ( the owner) is very welcoming. Even during Covid- 19, there was washing of equipment, and mask wearing at all times. Mass BJJ has been a great place, and a currently 67 5 star reviews just goes to show you the work that they put in.

Honestly, whether you are young or old, elite athlete or not, highly competitive or just trying to do your own thing...it’s just hard not to love this place. There’s something for everybody. It’s rare to find a place with top quality technical instruction that is so accepting and open.

If you’re interested in learning / training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, you will find top-notch instruction here, as well a a solid and welcoming community of kind, ambitious, genuine people. (Also, super nice and clean facilities.)Mike fosters a positive, respectful and focused learning environment. People of all ages and walks of life train here. It’s not a “sink or swim” type of environment, and it didn’t take long for me to feel like part of the MassBJJ team.Aside from all of the benefits of BJJ, this place has something special to offer. Stop in and say hi - you won’t regret it.

I have been training at Mass BJJ for 2.5 years. Right from the start, everyone I met from teachers to teammates were open, welcoming, and friendly. As someone new to training Jiu-jitsu, I had not point of comparison for how Mass BJJ fared in terms of instruction, but I felt certain I was getting first-class learning in an amazing atmosphere. It was only later when a friend who has been doing Jiu-Jitsu for much longer, and travels all over the country to different gyms told me Mass BJJ was one of the best gyms he had been ever been to; I realized I was lucky to be learning from such great instructors. First-class on every level, happy to call this place my second home.

I’ve been training here for more than 7 years. I couldn’t ask for more. The people are what make a gym, and the quality at MassBJJ is superb. It’s a motivated team environment. If that’s not enough for you, the equipment and facilities are great. Large mat surface, and plenty of weights and workout equipment.

This is an amazing gym. I have been training BJJ for eight years, and have trained in gyms all over the world, and Mass BJJ tops them all. Whether is the size and cleanliness of the facility, the range of equipment, the quality of the people in the gym community and the way they take care of each other, or the energy, attention and care that Mike, the owner and lead instructor, brings to every class and everything he does, theres no better facility or instruction to be found anywhere around. Before I started jiu jitsu, I was an elite international athlete in another sport. I have been coached by, or coached with, the best in the world. What Mike is doing with Mass BJJ is in that league. Frankly, if you live close enough to train here and you arent, you are making a mistake. If youve got the raw motivation, this is a community you will never want to leave.

Mass BJJ is the ideal training environment. I lived closer to several gyms but the trek to Mass BJJ was worth it for the following reasons.- Clean and spacious facility- Clear, technical, and wide variety of instruction- Training partners who share the same goal of improving themselves and others- Class offerings for beginners and competitors. Competitors will appreciate the hard training and positional rounds.Overall, a great place to train. Ill surely miss it!

Ive been training at Mass BJJ in Arlington for a little over a year and I could not recommend it enough to anyone thinking of joining. Whether you are an experienced grappler looking to compete or its your first time stepping on the mat you will be welcomed. Class instruction is at a very high level and they even off an online platform for you to supplement your training with (also highly recommended). The only thing better than the instruction that Mike, Christie and all instructors is the community that they have built.

Ive trained at a number of BJJ gyms, and MassBJJ sets the bar. Incredible group of people, and Mike is an exceptional instructor (Robero Maia black belt) and a great coach. Just a couple things that set it apart:-Huge investment is always being made back into the gym and the facilities. Extremely clean, bathrooms, shower, water-fountains, locker-rooms.. everything is top notch.-There is a FULL gym and thats also included in your membership-Mike is the real deal and rolls with students full on.-Great culture, great people, and a true no ego attitude pervades the place.-Often there are additional classes like wrestling, Muay-Thai etc for a full scale MMA experience if thats your cup of tea.All in all, MassBJJ is a fantastic place to train and a very welcoming community with a great vibe. Highly recommend checking out a free class there if youre considering it! Youll be back.

Plenty of great amenities: clean facility, changing rooms with lockers and showers, variety of fitness equipment from stretching, cardio, to free weights, plenty of mat space. I love that theres a big womens team in the gym at various belts! Instructors are attentive, personable, and they take the time to share their passion for the sport with everyone. Some nights can be busy, classes could have about 30+ people on any given night but the instructors still give their undivided attention when you need help.

This is the ultimate playground. Weights, physical therapy, and the largest mat area I have ever trained on. Clean facilities, shower, and changing rooms. I found everything I needed. As a beginner, I had a warm welcome, with patient sparring partners, correcting my positions and answering questions. Also encouraging to see so many dangerous women training here, too. Dangerous in a positive way. :) mike is an excellent technical instructor. I also caught Jon’s class. My skills are growing.

Whether you have trained before or are brand new to jiu jitsu, this is an amazing place to train. If you are interested in starting a martial art, but have been too intimidated to take the plunge, know that the owners/instructors at Mass BJJ have created a culture that is welcoming and supportive to everyone that comes in. The instruction at Mass BJJ is very technical and the instructors all have tremendous enthusiasm for their art and take the time to make sure that every student gets the most out of their training. If you are in the Arlington/Somerville/Cambridge area and are interested in training gi or nogi jiu jitsu or kickboxing, do yourself a favor and check out Mass BJJ

I was BJJ school shopping after leaving my last school, which was a hotbed of toxic masculinity and gaslighting. Mike is the head instructor and was great to meet with, super inviting, and even recommended I catch a womens class to get a better feel for the community that would become my jiujitsu home. This place is amazing - the facilities are clean, the instructors are all top-notch. Theres instruction for whatever your BJJ game wants or needs. The adult classes are split in Fundamentals vs All levels, which is a nice way to delineate what youll learn and work on. Fundamentals classes focus on techniques, and All Levels classes have more time built in for rolling. Christie is the black belt who teaches the womens class and she does so much for the community of women BJJ practitioners in the area. Nate is the other main instructor and hes a technical wizard and a very talented teacher. I dont get to train here as much anymore due to my new work schedule but this is where my BJJ family really expanded and where I go for BJJ community.

This has been my home gym for 2 months and I love it! Here are the reasons why:A) Good foundation for beginners: I’ve been practicing BJJ for a year at other gyms, and it was really hard for me to get started as a beginner because other gyms I attended did not have a basics class and advanced classes taught more techniques than I could remember. I often ended up confused and not retaining information. In the basics class at MassBJJ, we focus on a few techniques that are reviewed throughout the week.B) Good sense of community: The first week I joined, instructors and other people introduced themselves to me, and someone would come up to me during partner work so I wouldn’t be the newbie nervously searching for a partner. People are happy to teach you and help you if you are lost.C) Strong women’s community: There are 20-30 women who regularly train and this gym, and the gym makes it a point to create a community for this group of women. There is a women’s only class once a week and a women’s social event once a month. The women I trained with inspire me to practice more and to never make excuses. They work hard and help each other. Sometimes the more advanced women lead classes.Only disadvantage: this gym excels in BJJ instruction, but the kickboxing program is not as robust compared to other MMA gyms I’ve been to. I decided to focus on the BJJ aspect of my MMA practice after trying out several kickboxing classes.
