If you’re looking to get a lace wedding dress hemmed, just keep on looking. I came in with my wedding dress and as soon as I unzipped the garment bag the lady said it was “impossible” to hem my lace wedding gown and that “no one can do that.” In reality, she just doesn’t have the skill to do so, and instead of being straightforward with that, she had the audacity to tell me I should go return or exchange my wedding dress! Like.....lace wedding dresses can be hemmed, or else people wouldn’t buy them. Better off going to David’s Bridal or Techy’s which is just 5 minutes down the road.

I called to ASK if last minute alterations would be possible for a bridesmaids dress that I just received due to shipping delays and back orders. To ASK, and was met with an extremely rude and condescending, long-winded explanation of why it would not be. A simple “no, sorry” would have done just fine, thanks for being so unkind.

Work was very well done, and quickly. Certainly on the more expensive side to have a dress hemmed, although you can be sure it will be done right.

I dropped four items off with Mae on a Friday afternoon. I needed the straps of a jumper along with its lining shortened, a beloved work shirt was beginning to fray under the arm, the neck of a dress for my bachelorette needed to be taken in to keep it from gaping in the bodice, and I needed a bridesmaid dress hemmed. She texted me on Sunday that all of the items were ready for pickup.Each items fits like a dream now! I was amazed at how quickly and efficiently she got the work done. I will say that the alterations were more expensive than I had expected, but each piece was different. The jumper was fully lined, the bachelorette dress was lace that she ensured matched up even with the pieces taken out, the bridesmaids dress didnt have a straight hem and had several layers, and the work shirt didnt have a simple hole but the fabric was fraying at the seam so she needed to reconstruct the seam entirely. I am very happy and will be glad to return when I need.

I recently moved to Alexandria from Texas. My mom would handle most of my alterations, but since moving I had to find someone else. Mae has been a joy to work with. She altered my suit just in time for my interview. (I got the job!). She then altered my shirts to make sure I looked my best at my new job. She knows her stuff and is willing to do things right. She won’t just take your money and do what you tell her. She really is an expert and has gained my trust. I am very happy I decided to give her a try.

Everything went in too big, too long, and just awkward. It all came out fitting beautifully. The prices are reasonable, service is prompt (and often beyond expectations), and quality is fantastic. Let me tell you about Mrs. Mae ... amazing! She does great work and I intend to visit again. I had a bridesmaid dress that required alterations relatively quickly (12 days before wedding). She was able to turn it around for me in ONE day. Additionally, she spent time with me figuring out different ways to wear it and making sure the fit was good. Great experience at this location. She was able to tailor a new suit for me and had a turn around time of just 3 days. I was originally told it would be a week. The alteraions look great and professional. I highly suggest bringing your service here if you are a government worker.

Mrs. Mae is INCREDIBLE. I had a dress with intricate straps that needed to be altered by about 1.5 inches on each strap. I was worried that the pattern would visibly look altered and not lay nicely on my shoulders. I was so wrong! Mrs. Mae worked some kind of sewing magic and was able to preserve the original pattern to the point it’s not discernible that any alterations ever happened. Brilliant! Oh, and she did the work in 4 days OVER the Christmas holiday. Worth every single penny.

Mae was able to alter a formal top for me overnight. I needed this top for an upcoming event and needed the time to take it to the cleaners. The alteration was form-fitting, and the seams were better sewn after the alteration than when I purchased the top. If you are looking for a seamstress for formal wear or any other types of clothing, utilize Mae. It’s nice to know I now have a fantastic neighborhood seamstress who pays attention to detail. FYI...she also has free parking behind her shop, which was a huge time saver in the busy neighborhood. Will return to her for all my alterations.

Mae really helped me out. I’m starting a new job almost immediately. I came in on a Sunday and she was able to have my uniforms done by Tuesday and I needed them Wednesday. She really took her time and made sure they were fit perfect. Instead of just rushing me out the door she really made sure everything was correct. Really happy I found her.

I have a pair of old Levis 569s (straight leg) that were way too long and baggy. Hoping to salvage the pair rather than dispose of them I decided to take it to a tailor to see if they could taper the leg area, narrow the opening at the bottom AND also keep the original hem. I took the pair into Fashion Center to give it a shot and met Mae. I told her what I wanted to do and she was a little hesitant at first because she was not sure if the jeans would look good if she tapered them and that keeping the original hem was a challenge. But after a lengthy discussion she agreed to make the alterations. I dropped them off on a Thursday afternoon and to my surprise I received a text from her later that evening stating the alterations were done. I was amazed at how fast she was able to get them done. I went back the next day to see the results. When I put on the jeans I was AMAZED at the final product. The tapering was on point and her work keeping the original hem was outstanding. I brought a pair of shoes with me to try on with my altered jeans and they looked AMAZING. I am so impressed with her work that I am planning on bringing the rest of my alteration work to her. The price was a little on the high side but the end result was well worth the cost. I highly recommend Mae.

I dropped off an Azazie bridesmaid dress on Friday for alterations (the wedding is in two weeks). I initially went in thinking I needed the whole thing taken in and the sleeves shortened. Mae very kindly pointed out that I didn’t need to spend that much money and provided easy alternatives (replacing the cups to fit my actual size, simply adjusting the sleeves, and taking out the boning). Saturday morning, I got a text saying it was done! The dress was done beautifully and fit perfectly. I will be a return customer!

Wanted to try this place after reading all of the great reviews. I had a hi-low gown for a wedding which I needed the back part (low) to be hemmed so it wouldnt drag (and I could dance at the wedding without being afraid of getting stepped on). I went to the website and there are no prices listed. So I called hoping to just get a ballpark figure to see if it was affordable and the woman who answered the phone said she couldnt give me price without seeing the gown. I told her I understood, but I just wanted a general price range and she asked questions about the dress. After answering her questions, I asked for a price range and again she told me she couldnt give me one and would have to come in. When I got to the shop, she asked if I was the one who called and then proceeded to yell at me about how she couldnt give me a price. And then she pointed to a price list on the wall in the workroom...... Then without even looking at the dress (it was still in the plastic bag and the bottom was poking out), she pointed to the bridesmaid dress alterations prices which said $65 and up. When I told her it wasnt a bridesmaids dress, she said that was the price but that with my dress (which she still hadnt looked at), it would be much higher. So I told her there was no way I was paying that much to hem something and had she told me $65 and up on the phone, no ones time would have been wasted. I seriously believe they refuse to give a price list so you go to their shop and then pay their ridiculous prices because you are already there.

Mae does great work but that is not the reason I keep coming back. The reason I bring her all my business is because she takes the time to be a consultant and give you honest feedback as to what type of work needs to be done. Even though the honest advise does not always lead to immediate gain for the business it definitely creates loyalty amongst customers such as myself.

This was my first time using a tailor before, so I was a bit hesitant about bringing my diesel jeans in to be altered. However, my experience here has changed my mind about tailoring. My pants were too long and wrapped oddly around my legs. Mae made the process seamless (pun intended) figuring out the best way to fit the pants to my leg definition. She was very detailed and her years of experience definitely showed. I was extremely pleased with the result and will be bringing any other clothes that require tailoring to her specifically.

I have come here twice and if I could give it 0 stars I would. If you are looking for a professional experience and for your dresses not to get ruined DO NOT COME HERE. I have never written a bad review in my life but I really don’t think this place cares about making sure they take care of your bridesmaid dress. The first dress I had she forgot to write down the instructions so I had to keep coming in 3 times. I was obviously stressed as it was getting close to the wedding date, which made the owner super condescending and rude towards me. To make it all worse the strap broke BROKE OFF during the reception, but I still let it go and went back again because of how close it was to my house.Second time, same unpleasant uncomfortable experience. She Jeeps telling me I’m not standing right, making weird comments on my appearance and get in another haggle war. I come in and the dress looks great but there is a small rip in the front. Could have been me, could have been her but I didn’t care just wanted it fixed. She immediately starts pointing the finger at me and saying I must have ripped in the past 2 seconds. She tells me a ring most of got caught on it, I have no jewelry on and she has several rings. She says she’s going to “watch me” because i complain a lot and I’m cheap and then starts making fun of me saying I have anxiety problems, I’m stressed, and I’m hyper. The fact she was so defensive made me believe she knew about the rip in the first place. She was attacking me when all I wanted was her to do her job and fix a tear in the dress. Yes, I do have all those issues but what kind of person in customer service says such crude and inappropriate comments? So if you want to be verbally attacked, uncomfortable, and spend way more money than you should on a ripped dress this is the place for you to go! The way she fixes the mistakes is just making the rip worse and now I have to spend more money to go somewhere else to fix it.

I needed someone to fix tayloring done on my suit jacket by another shop in a very short amount of time. Basically, they altered the jacket down nearly two sizes in less than 12 hours. The jacket was altered so beautifully people assumed it was taylormade when I wore it the following day. The customer service was spectacular. I highly recommend Fashion Center Alterations!

DO NOT! Go to this lady. She is a complete ripoff. I had her to “fix” my prom dress and she half did her job. I paid her to fix the back and the shoulders. She only sewed it up some and I went to try on the dress and I told her it was still too loose she said there’s nothing she could. Also she quickly fixed the back of the dress while I was there and it still didn’t fit. I had to go to another alternation to fix the sloppy work she did. I also paid her to cut three layers of tulle and she only cut two. I texted her and asked if there was anyway she could fix it and she left me on read. Save yourself the time and money and go to someone who actually does their job and is at least professional.

Mae took my bachelorette jumpsuit last-minute and turned around all the alterations in less than a day! In addition to a significant hem (Im short), she also fixed my neckline and hand sewed along the sides to fix some gapping. Her price was very fair, her work very solid. She really saved my outfit!

BUYER BEWARE!!!!READ ALL NEGATIVE REVIEWS BEFORE GOING TO THIS BUSINESS!! THEY ARE EXTREMELY ACCURATE.- She will never quote you a price upfront because she plans to upcharge you. What should have been a $90 alteration turned out to be $175. While I asked her how much she thought it would cost, she couldnt give an estimate until she started to work on the dress. Never have I ever experienced that with a tailor. If they are experienced enough, they generally know how much to charge. But it seemed intentional to not quote price upfront for the purpose of upcharging later on. Having just read other reviews here it seems that she does this often.- When I told her that I was going to write a negative review for her, she said you guys always say that! Go ahead, tell the whole world!... I do believe she has frequent negative feedback from her customers. Dont you think that would convince her to change her work ethic and business strategy? It seems not. She is intentionally trying to manipulate you out of your money.- As for the quality of the work it is equivalent to something I couldve taken a pair of scissors and a sewing machine to. I needed a bridesmaid dress opened up around the hips and hemmed at the bottom. As soon as I told her what the problem was after trying the dress on for her she said it was impossible. I should have known at that point that she was manipulating me. The work was so easy! I even gave her a few tips on how she could do it, and then she seemed totally on board with my ideas. But her execution was her horrendous. See attached photos.- Even if she tries to respond to this review, I would not believe her. She cannot be trusted. She will claim victim no matter what you try telling her. I plan on filing formal complaints with BBB, and potentially filing legal suit.- Also note she only takes cash or check, inhibiting you from voiding the payment. SCAM ARTIST!!!
