A rare honest mechanic! Theyve let us even borrow a tool so that we could fix things ourselves. They will tell you whether its something that is urgent or not. Excellent and quick care. I recommend going in the morning. Theyre fast and efficient. While you wait, go across the street to Heidelberg bakery for German baked goods and a cup of coffee. Makes going to get your car maintained or fixed almost fun! Excellent way to support small businesses.

I have used these guys for years. They are the consummate professionals: accurate, honest, timely and competent. They are also very fair as to what they charge. If you are used to having work done at the dealer, you are going to love these guys, too. There is just no other place to take a Japanese car in the region. If you are hesitating, I say take the jump, you will not be sorry. BTW I am not some shill they hired, or some friend of theirs writing. I am a customer who is on my way to pick up my car, which they did exactly on time, very economically, and exactly on budget. Again. Plus these guys dont try to get you to buy things you dont need. If a part has some life in it, they wont automatically tell you to replace it. They know you will be back when the time comes, and they dont worry about it. This is exactly as a car repair shop should be. I will always be back, and you will too if you give them a shot. I feel they deserve to be reviewed this way, because they have always done right by me and my family.

Have always had fantastic luck with them. They have been up front and helpful, saved me a lot of time and have always seemed reasonable. Rely heavily on them.Just went again. Firestone tried to charge my girlfriend $600 for some parts to do an oil change. These guys managed to change the oil without it - said Firestone was all BS. I so trust Japanese Auto Clinic!

Ive been here several times for various repairs on my Subaru Forester. While Steve is a bit gruff at times, Ive never been dissatisfied with their work. Its the sort of shop where they will tell you straight-up if a repair is truly necessary and will charge you less than quoted if they get the work done quickly, which is all you can really ask for in a repair shop. Ive found that they generally beat dealer service estimates by 20-25%.

Liftgate handle replacement job estimated at close to $500 by JAC; $100 for parts, $400 for labor etc. Thankfully I did the job on my own. Bought the $100 part from the dealer and replaced in about an hour myself. Had previous good experience with a timing belt replacement. What gives? You lost a customer.

I wonder if perhaps some of the negative reviewers are confusing this with a nearby similarly named business. Ive been a customer for 15 years and cant speak highly enough about the great service I have had during that time, whether a simple oil change, checks of used cars I was thinking about buying , routine maintenance, or unexpected issues. I wouldnt go anywhere else.

First time Ive ever written one of these. Wanted to have the differential and transfer case oil swapped on my toyota. Went in in the morning, tried to explain to Steve what I was looking for them to do. During this explanation, he interrupted me several times, didnt pay attention several others. I clearly stated what I wanted a final time to make sure there was no confusion. Then, surprise surprise, they messed up. They replaced 2 of the 3 diff/transfer case oils, but then changed the engine oil (which I didnt ask for) - and wanted to charge me for it. When I reasonably tried to understand what happened, and explain why there might have been a communication breakdown, Steve told me to just get out and not come back and that he didnt want my business anymore. Wow, I can literally say this has never happened to me before. I should have read the prior reviews more thoroughly. I would really recommend folks stay away from these guys, not friendly to people in the neighborhood, or humans in general apparently.

I have used the Japanese Auto Clinic many times. When you find a good, honest mechanic, stick with him -- they are rare and precious. These are good, honest mechanics.Their work is completed promptly, even complex jobs are performed skillfully, and their prices are the most reasonable (read lowest) I have found anywhere in the Washington area. We first went to the Japanese Auto Clinic a few years ago after reading the overwhelming and numerous positive reviews in Washington Consumer Checkbook and we have not been disappointed. We no longer take our cars, a 2000 Honda Insight and a 2005 Toyota Prius, anywhere else, whether for routine scheduled maintenance or for any actual repairs.

Went in for the second time today after my check engine light came on. Having previously tried the cheapest option for fixing the issue (low fuel system pressure), they recommended a smoke test, which was to cost a few hundred bucks.Steve called me back later and told me that they hadnt found any leaks. I was bummed, and expected to still pay for the test. When I went to pick up my car, they told me they werent going to charge me anything. Needless to say, Im pretty impressed by that and will be returning.

When I first moved to this area in 2016, I was looking for a mechanic to work on my Toyota. Found this place and absolutely loved their work and customer service was great. Move forward two years...I have moved out of the city and cant really find someone to work on my vehicle like Japanese Auto. So, I decided I would rather get my truck towed to JA to get fixed than bother with someone else. So, I drove to the shop in my other car to explain what I was told needed fixing. I was so surprised at how I was treated. Customer service was awful. Maybe he felt what I was saying or asking was not important to him. Or maybe during the middle of me asking a question, he decided to call another customer was his right. But what ever it is, I WILL not be going back.

Ive been going to Japanese Auto Clinic for about 10 years now and even with our new cars Ill take them to JAC before Id take it to the dealer. Never feel Ive been taken advantage of, Ive even taken a car in to have the brakes replaced and was told there just was some dirt build up and a quick cleaning solved the problem and there was no cost to me. My only beef is they do not work on American cars like Fords etc... But I guess its best to be good at one thing then mediocre at a bunch

STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS. Im out 2700 and my car is still not fixed. These guys are parts replacers and not mechanics. All they do is plug their little computer thingy into the car and replace what ever part code comes up. I went to pick my car up and he tells me to bring it back WHEN the check engine light comes on. Each time replacing another part that has nothing to do with the actual problem. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. After replacing perfectly good parts with used ones, Im still stuck with the same problem. He just kept telling me to bring it back until the computer told him to look at the real problem. Finally at my ropes end I took it elsewhere and it was fixed the next day with alot of I wonder why they did that, because it didnt need it from the other business. I strongly recommend taking your business somewhere else.P.S. They dont even deserve that ONE STAR Rating.

As a gearhead who works on his own cars when I have the time or space to do so, this shop is the biggest joke I have ever had the misfortune of taking one of my vehicles. The owner is a giant jerk (Id use stronger language if it was allowed) with no manners or common decency whatsoever, and openly yells at customers, his technicians, etc. Youll go in, and hell be sitting there playing games on his phone and act like you are inconveniencing him by attempting to give him business. His prices are easily 33% higher than every other shop in the NoVA area for no apparent reason. The engine cover for my car mysteriously disappeared, as it was not put back in and they had no idea where it was and then denied it ever being there to begin with (which it was).Do not go here. Go to Japanese Auto Care down N. Glebe instead if you want actual professionals who will give you the time of day and charge reasonable prices.Again, I went in to pick up a car, and the owner was busy yelling at another customer about being wrong concerning a burned out light bulb not being replaced. I then watched him march outside only to find that the technician had placed one of the old, burned out lightbulbs back into the drivers side socket instead of a new one in both sides as the customer paid for. And again, rather than apologize for the mistake, the owners attitude suggested that this poor old woman was somehow annoying him by requesting that he fix a botched service. They also claimed my air compressor was broken and causing a lack of A/C, asking for $1000 to replace it, when the true problem was a $40 pressure switch that I was able to replace on my own after another shop accurately figure it out.Do not go here. They have no idea what they are doing (I guarantee if you get multiple opinions, their diagnosis will be nothing close to the dealership or other qualified shops recommendation), are outrageously overpriced, and again, the owner is unbelievably rude. I really feel sorry for the techs employed there, who he treats like slaves in front of customers.
