Great new addition to the Hangar 18 gyms. Was another rock climbing gym in the past that they converted to their own. The padding is now much better and safer, the routes are pretty good and there are a lot of varieties for different levels. The overhang is also pretty fun! Great place to bring kids and family for fun times, or for more serious climbers who want a really good workout. Smaller than some of the other gyms, it still gives you a lot of work out options. They have a smaller top roping area with some simple routes. This is mostly a bouldering gym.

Completely got scammed, tried to cancel my account during COVID and got no response nor confirmation. No one answered the phone number they have listed ever, they still don’t. And then they resumed charging me, when I was finally able to communicate with one of the members they reluctantly refused to refund the months they charged me.

Hangar 18 at Arcadia is a mostly bouldering gym with a few rather short top roping walls with nothing above a 5.10 (at least when I was there). But thats fine because there is a lot of bouldering. The people that work there are quite nice. I really enjoyed the various challenges that have been constructed for all ability levels. Fantastic gym to get a lot of climbing in. Lots of parking nearby. Quite affordable compared to most climbing gyms too. Only downsides: no water fountain and the holds could be cleaned a little more. Still definitely recommend.

If youre looking to see how fit or in-fit you are, go to a place like this. My wife and I did this while celebrating our anniversary over the weekend and had an awesome time. The staff was super helpful and accommodating. The other climbers, including the regulars, all looked out for one another to make sure nobody was climbing over one another. We will definitely be doing this more often.

Its not nearly as big as other Hanger 18 gyms but this one is sure fun. I feel that the v3 here are a little more difficult that in the others. I love that both ends of the gym are open. So it gets a nice breeze through. All in all, Fun gym love it, love that staff.

This is a very nice gym to go to when you got nothing on your hands. They are very friendly and the people that go there are like a community. If you cant pass a certain climb they got your back. There are things like summer camps for young ones who are interested in climbing and for a day pass it is $10. I hope this helped and I hope you will consider trying it!

Plenty of climbing here. There are 3 Auto-belay areas and about 8 top rope areas but all the routes are very short. This location is mostly bouldering. The bouldering area is varied but there is no obvious flat vertical section. Almost everything ranges from slightly to extremely overhanging. There is an open area near the restrooms with hangboards. It would be nice if they would improve that area. Right now its mostly empty space.

Ive climbed at Gyms all over Los Angeles County and Orange County. My wife and I also climb outside, weather permitting. Its important to find a convenient home gym in order to keep in shape and push your self to the next level. We moved from Long Beach to the San Gabriel Valley, and there wasnt anything out here until now. We had tried Stronghold, LA Boulders, and Hangar Upland. The first two are incredibly overpriced. Its like they think they have Sender One level gyms, and they simply dont. Hangar Upland was fine, but the drive didnt make sense for us.This gym just opened, so theyre still getting things in line. They took over the old Arc Climbing gym, and made it their own. Its right across the street from REI, so if you forget something, then you wont have to walk far ;)Im sure they plan to make improvements along the way. It is mostly a bouldering gym. The walls dont seem to be used to their full potential. I would suggest adding more boulder routes. There are some top ropes at the entry to the gym, but the walls are only about 15-16 tall. There are 3 auto belay devices (it allows you to climb on rope without a partner). There is no lead climbing, and they dont plan to add it in the immediate future. All the holds are brand new, and the routes have a pretty good range (v0 - v7). For those in the LA area who are new to Hangar Gyms, they tend to be smaller than the big name gyms, but the level of climbing is usually great and so is the community. They have seasonal specials (and currently a grand opening special), but the regular monthly rate is only $36 a month and there is no initiation fee.We had fun, and will be back soon. I will update my review as time passes.

Our first trip and this is really all you need to know about the place...my 10 yr old son got tips and techniques from absolute strangers. On one ascent, near the top of his climb...he froze and started saying I cant do this...I need to get down... and his feet came off the wall.So theres my son, about 8 ft (or so) holding on by his hands by his hands for about 10 seconds or so and finally gets purchase with his feet and down climbs to the floor. Shaking and tears. No, he wasnt hurt. He was overwhelmed and scared and just had an adrenaline blast into his heart and brain he had never experienced before. We walked it off for a few minutes then sat down. I explained that I was proud of him for not losing control. I explained that courage is not the lack of fear, but what you do with the fear you feel - and that he did the right thing by getting his feet back under him, catching his breath and down climbing until his feet were back on terra firma. As soon as I was done with my dad moment - and I mean immediately - different climbers came over and gave him a fist bump while telling him how awesome he was and that no everyone could do what he did.My son has been talking about his epic moment all day.and we look forward to coming back...often.

This gym is small, economically priced, and fun. The employees are friendly. This is a really good grungy climbing gym. Id rather boulder here than climb, as the climbing walls are short. It may not be for everyone, but if you are looking to build strength fast, their route setting is hard. The crash matt flooring is good, and not sketchy. The holds arent super grippy, and it can be a little difficult to tell the colors apart, but I still had fun - and its challenging. I recommend trying it out.

I have done quite a bit of indoor climbing at some great gyms in the Seattle area and ARC is now the closest gym to where I live in LA. It was a very relaxed and laid back place with couches and benches in the center of the room and the two garage end doors open to the Cali sunshine. The breeze and the fans made it feel a little like being outside. They have some good variation in routes, but fewer vertical routes and more overhanging than Id like. Some of the holds are loose and the marks are coming off. I also didnt like the fact that there were only limited mats so you had to preposition one under your climb prior to trying something challenging. It was reasonable and friendly and big enough to keep me occupied every once in awhile, but it is certainly not the best climbing gym I have seen.

I finally made my way back here (I live 30+ miles away now) and was treated so badly that Im actually considering filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (Im kind of contemplating about suing ARC too, but I think I have better things to do than to waste any more of my time on this place).I was the first person in on a Sunday. As I handed my 10-visit punch card to the front desk, I was informed that the card was not valid any more. Ok, there were five visits left on the card, worth $55 total (I paid $110 for a 10-visit pass), and there was NO EXPIRATION DATE written anywhere on the card. The front desk person was feeling charitable and decided to let me in just this once. Well, that will be last $55 ARC ever sees from me.I sat down at the sofa to put on my climbing shoes and a projectile smacked me squarely in the back, right on my spine (I have a bruise from it). A guy, who appeared to be setting routes, decided to start throwing things before looking to see if there were people around. After mumbling a half-hearted apology, he exclaimed, its just a roll of tape! Right, I dont think that bruise on my back cares that it was a roll of tape (it still stings when I move).I was so upset at that point (knowing that Im out $55 for a gym I dont even like that much to start with and my back hurting), that I only managed to try couple routes before taking off.If my review is not enough to turn you away from this place, keep the following in mind when you visit: 1) do NOT give ARC any money upfront, for any reason, you may never see it again; 2) watch for projectiles coming your way, a roll of tape may seem harmless (although my spine would disagree), but Id hate to see a hex wrench stab you in the eye during your visit; 3) practice holding your breath, the place stinks to high heaven; 4) be prepared for a heat-stroke, there is no air conditioning at this place.

Review №40

The gym wasnt what I expected compared to the other hangar 18 gyms. The routes seemed mediocre, not well thought out and randomly placed. Walls dont seem to be being used to their full potential. I use to be a member of this gym location back when it was the ARC and I can honestly say it feels like the name has changed but ARC employee still seem to be setting. The problems many of us as members had about the gym back then, still seem to be present.... ie the walls are old, bolt holes are either plastered over or missing which limits placement of holds and distorts movement and flow for setters, and of course spinning holds. I really hope hangar 18 brings inn better setters, puts up more aesthetically pleasing boulder problems and uses the walls to their full potential ( lots of empty space). I was looking forward to this gym as a more affordable alternative to the touchstone gyms and liking the other locations. But experiencing it was a big let down . I would really like to see the gym succeed and come into fruition in the near future and for that I give it 2 stars. Sorry hangar.

I’m visiting from out of town and the only option I have is an Intro package ($33). All I want is a day pass, but their policy is that you have to dish out $33 for belay instruction and harness rental if it’s your first time. I just wanted to boulder...

Nice staff. However, the policies there make it unwelcoming. Makes no sense to take an intro class($33) just to Boulder. All I wanted to do was to get the all day pass, but due to the policies I was unable to till I have taken the intro classes. And if you aren’t over 18 a parent has to sign the waiver, but parents can sign online.

People stop complaining about the rating, please climb outside before making a judgement. Other gyms lower the rating for placebo effect.Hanger 18 took over and is doing a great job as of running the joint. Sections of the routes are updated weekly or more and they added a costco like fan ceiling to vent better. Knocked a star because they need better air flow in the building and they need to really focus on the training room. Indurance training is key to getting better. Great gym overall.
