I have been a member for over two and a half years and this place has been quite a fit for me. Gym experiences in the past have lasted 6 month to 1 and a half years - because I get bored.Advantage classes (strength and circuit) have kept me coming back. The staff is amazing! You get expert coaching with a personal touch. The staff know your name and get to know you. It makes coming to the gym more than checking a box on your to do list. I highly recommend giving Advantage Strength a try!

I began working out at Advantage about four years ago--hard to believe its been that long! I was not, and am not, a fitness nut. My workout past is littered with abandoned gym memberships. I began coming to Advantage after realizing that Id gained 30 pounds during the previous ten years, had the beginnings of arthritis, and was generally unhappy with the way I felt in my body. I found the structure of the workouts--small group training with personalized exercises--to be much more conducive to success than the usual oh, I should go to the gym but I dont feel like it mantra Id fallen into in the past. Within a few months, Id lost nearly all the weight, and my arthritis was just about gone. I credit the coaches at Advantage for this rejuvenating turn--they are helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. They regularly adjust my workout to meet any specific needs or concerns I have at the time. Honestly, Advantage has been a lifesaver, especially during these last months. I highly recommend the team at Advantage if youre looking to turn things around, fitness-wise. It has been a real revelation for me. Definitely one of the best health decisions Ive ever made.

Im a person who has been active most of my life and never really a gym person. However, as I got older, my internal motivator stopped working as well as it once did. Around that time a friend referred me to Brian and his team at Advantage Personal Training. Extremely glad she did. Advantage is less like a gym and more like one of your favorite restaurants where you happen to work out, instead of eat. The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly, they are also very well trained, which was important to me, someone who did not have a lot of experience with formal workout techniques. Working out can be fun, who knew? The thing I really like about Advantage is the feeling that someone other than me cares about my health and wellness. I can go whenever I want and am motivated to keep going because I feel the results - greater strength and tone throughout my entire body.

I started working out at Advantage Strength because I wanted to improve my hockey play on the ice. What I didn’t know would happen is everything became easier. My knees didn’t hurt walking up and down the stairs. My shoulders became stronger for summer kayaking. My lower back stopped hurting. And of course I became stronger on the ice. The guys are great and so friendly. It’s a welcoming community!

Coach Brian and his staff (Evan and Erik!) helped me on a journey to lose 90 pounds, recover from two knee surgeries, run my fastest 5k, run a full marathon, and honestly just know my body better and feel tons better all around. There is a terrific sense of support and community at Advantage and a constant curiosity that keeps everyone very informed. You have the sense that someone is looking out for you and you arent alone. I cant imagine a better place.

I started strength training at Advantage because I wanted to be a better skater and dancer. Advantage Personal Training has strengthened pretty much every muscle in my body, especially my core, making movements on ice and in dance so much easier and stronger. I used to hurt my back a lot and had knee issues; those problems are all gone now. I think stronger muscles around the joints and a stronger core help protect my knees and back. Also, the coaches there teach how to lift heavy weights using the correct muscles and with correct posture that helps prevent injuries. I can now carry a 35 lb. box of cat litter up and down the stairs with one hand without any problem, whereas I used have to call my husband to do it! The owner and coaches at Advantage are very professional, good at communicating, and always willing to work with any special situation. They also promote a very friendly and encouraging environment for working out for everyone.

I’ve been a member for 8 years now, and I’ve remained because Brian and his team bring a level of expertise and professionalism not available in any other gym in the area of which I’m aware. They’ve really shown their true mettle since the “March 2020 shutdown”, putting our good health and continued safety at the highest priority all the while being nimble enough to still bring their programs to us, whether outdoors or inside the gym when permitted. Kudos and continued success!

Ive been a member now going on my fourth year. Wow - that long? Brian and his team got me to turn the corner from a less than occasional gym goer to truly making it my routine. Now I feel off if I miss a day or two. Its a professional environment with great, attentive coaches focused on goals and challenges and making it a place I look forward to going to nearly every day. This past year I give the team a lot of credit for their creativity in making the gym work (i.e. outside under the tent!). Perhaps itll be back...?

My family has been using services of Advantage for many years. I like how they have supported my goals as they have evolved. They have incorporated into my strength training all the elements of my physical therapy programs, and I have been pain free for some time. You get out of out whatever you put into it, and Advantage does a nice job adapting to your personal goals. The team is kind, intelligent and genuine. They clearly enjoy what they do and their enthusiasm is wonderful.

I was very apprehensive when I first joined Advantage. I had just turned 49 and realized I needed to do more than walk the dog for exercise if I was going to ward off old age for as long as possible. I had read that strength training was important for women over 50, so I decided to check out this place that several friends had recommended. The free weights and TRX straps were intimidating at first, but with the patient help of the coaches, I became a pro in no time. I was given an individualized plan that was challenging, but not prohibitively so, and enough variety to keep me coming back. I started out going three mornings a week, but eventually worked up to five days most weeks--something I had never done before. Best of all, I met other like-minded women who encouraged and inspired me. I cant say enough about the commitment Brian and his team have to their members, offering creative options when gyms were closed to keep us active and connected. Their efforts to keeps everyone safe during in-person workouts go above and beyond the required protocols. With the focus on personalized workouts, Advantage is a great fit for people of all ages and fitness levels. I recommend it to everyone I know!

They create a very inclusive environment, and help everyone feel like their goals are achievable. Our family loves going together, and we have appreciated the effort the coaches have put in towards keeping the gym clean and open throughout the pandemic!

I have been training with Advantage for two years now. When I started Brian assessed my needs thoroughly. I had some major areas for improvement that had made strength training difficult in the past. The exercises given were highly personalized to help me gain mobility and strength and move past these physical issues. If I ever had trouble doing an exercise it was quickly and simply modified. My functioning has improved by leaps and bounds and is limited only by the amount of effort I put into doing the exercises they have given me. :) Brian and all his staff are all extremely knowledgeable about functional strength and I have seem them work successfully with people of all ages and abilities, adapting programs for all from elite athletes to people who are coming off the couch and just want to be able to keep up with their kids. When COVID shut down the gyms in 2020, they quickly pivoted their programming to online zoom classes, and then when able opened again with a distanced version of the original program, as well as an option for virtual only personal training. The community atmosphere that has been a big part of Advantage since the beginning is now shared via an active Facebook page for all members. Brian and his staff care deeply for their clients and the local community as well and it shows. My daughter who is an elite high school aged athlete has been training also through the performance program. This work has improved her performance and has helped reduce her risk of injury. She has mentioned that her team coach has noticed how much stronger she is, and her speed and conditioning have been continuously improving, and in turn her confidence and yes, performance. Having her start at Advantage has been an excellent choice for her.In summary, if you want a training program that will adapt to your needs, and a community to support you in working toward your goals, Advantage is a great place to find it!

I first started attending Advantage with my Ann Arbor Rowing teammates for winter training nearly 5 years ago and Ive stuck with it individually ever since. Not only has it helped me as an athlete, but I use it everyday at home and at work. Whether its the way I shovel (like a med ball scoop throw) or carrying my photography equipment (like a kettlebell farmers carry), the folks at Advantage have taught me the safe way to exercise which has translated to fewer injuries in my daily activities. Im the strongest Ive ever been at the age of 50 because of Advantage. Im so grateful to them and the good energy they bring. Highly recommend! :)

I’ve been a member of Advantage for 3 plus years and I honestly can say I’m in the best shape of my adult life, something my physician thankfully validated during my annual exam a few months back!I’m stronger than ever, which has helped me crush drives on the golf course, also to the delight of my other half, carry a ton of bags to the car every time we trek to the grocery store.I was not a gym guy when I joined Advantage, but I honestly now look forward to going to the gym, also am bummed out whenever something comes up, that causes me to miss a session. The Advantage trainers are 1st class, attentive, responsive, always working closely with members to create varying routines to best meet individual needs and to keep things interesting.Covid has thrown curve balls at everyone. After gyms were forced to scale back, Advantage never missed a beat, via offering outside training, online training to support and encourage everyone to stay active and eat healthy during these very stressful times.Advantage was a great find, absolutely no regrets!

Heres a long review, but you can save yourself time and just go in and give Advantage a try. They will meet you where you are at and set up a path to make it to your goals. If you want more details, read on.My family has been part of Advantage for almost 4 years. We were first attracted by the programs for kids, but quickly realized it made sense for the adults in the house. I had been strength training at home for years, but definitely hit a plateau and was getting almost nothing out of it. But I had tried gyms and the Y in the past and really did not like them.Advantage is so different - the exercises are functional and constantly changing - but also my workout plan is designed for progression, not just random new exercises of the week (which is what happens at some gyms I have tried). Having sleds to push and walls to slam medicine balls off creates a workout you cant get at home, but more important is the watchful eye of the trainers. When things are going well, they help me push to the next level. When I have an injury to nurse (from doing things outside the gym or a flare up of one of my nagging injuries), they help me work around it and rehab so that it is less likely to recur. for example, I have gone from thinking strength training means my knee will hurt to understanding my well designed fitness program is what stops my knee from hurting. For me, it is the perfect mix of a gym with structure and being able to make it what I want it to be. And their service is not just in the gym. In the past when I traveled they would check the facilities where I was staying and provide me a workout (on one trip with my kids soccer team some of the other parents copied the workout they designed because it made such a great use of the facilities in such a fun way). During the pandemic and physical shutdowns, the personal touch has been there. They helped me figure out what home equipment to add, designed workouts for me (and monitored them to make changes on a regular basis after talking with me about how things are going) and even loaned my family equipment. The most amazing thing to me is how Advantage works for each person - many of who are coming from different backgrounds and with different preferences, goals and fitness conditions. I enjoy strength training and like to focus on the exercises when working out. I chat with people before and after, but am able to do the workout in my own zone. Plenty of others there do the same. The Advantage trainers also noticed I am not as good at pushing myself on cardio or mobility, so they work that in and make sure I get it (I even started to look forward to it). My wife has never liked strength training, but Advantage created a community that made it work and helps her set goals. They interact throughout the workout with each other, encouraging and enjoying the company (and have become friends that interact outside the workouts as well). Not only did she met her ever increasing goals (crushing to full sets of pullups in less than 6 weeks from not being able to do one for example - all based on a program one of the trainers created when she said it was a goal), but she shared that with others and received regular encouragement from the group. Whatever you need, they design the program that gets you there in a way that works for you. The personal touch means all types of people can benefit from Advantage - it just depends on what you want.

I started at Advantage with a nagging injury that needed professional attention. I have stayed because of the great staff. What an amazing place! The emphasis is on Personal (without paying excessive personal trainer’s fees)! Before I joined few years ago, I wasn’t fully convinced that this small, private gym could be any different from any other gym out there. I thought I would give it a try for a month and see after that. I wasn’t after anything in particular when I joined, just needed a change of scenery from all other exercise programs I was into at the moment. Sure enough, I received tons of personal attention which I attributed to being a new member. Several years into my membership – the amount of attention to my well-being is still exceptional.I realized right away that Brian and his team of coaches use an individualized approach based on each person’s needs and abilities (physical and mental) to create an adaptive exercise program. Having a team of highly trained professionals in my corner allowed me to stay active and make a much faster recovery from the multiple reconstructive joint surgeries that Ive had over the last few years. The most immediate effect that you feel upon joining is that the entire staff cares about you and is invested in your well-being. The coaching does not start when you show up nor does it stop when you leave. There is a sense of community and accountability that includes both coaches and members. This is not a work-out that you dread getting to because you feel you need to. This is the place you want to be, the place I very much look forward to coming each day after work. And if you want to start your day at the gym, the scheduling flexibility allows that as well. It is adapted to any work and lifestyle. This last year of COVID restrictions proved just that. While being stuck at home, as everybody else was this past year, I was afraid that it would have a huge negative effect on my physical well being. Advantage Strengths flexibility in adapting and adhering to all health restrictions while making sure all members continue to benefit from daily workouts, has been exceptional.I know for sure, I will not be looking for another gym for years to come 😊

Advantage is the best of all of the worlds of gyms. There is COMMUNITY. I really felt like I was a part of something. The classes are in a GROUP SETTING but you also get INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION to your own fitness needs and growth. Its like having a personal trainer but in a group setting which helped me feel accountable for my progress. The trainers at Advantage know how to push you physically in a way that is best for your body. They pay attention to your form so that you improve safely. It is a place where I always felt motivated and excited to go. There is no other gym in Ann Arbor like Advantage. Highly recommend.

I had the pleasure of a month long membership with Advantage Strength and had an excellent experience. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful, I worked with Erick most often and he was great. Simultaneously providing me with the support I needed to do things the right way while allowing me the space to complete my exercises at my own pace. Class sizes are small to support individualized support. The most amazing thing about my experience: In just 30 days I saw and felt gains in strength, agility, and overall health. I am an active person already and my experience with the fine folks at Advantage Strength was like icing on the cake!

I was a member at Advantage for about 2 years and it has been by far the best gym I’ve been apart of (sadly I had to move for work). As an ex-athlete I like that extra push from a coach and Advantage was the perfect place for me. I received personal programming based on my goals and needs after receiving a fitness assessment from Brian. I saw a ton of improvement in my weak areas, became a lot stronger and overall healthier during my time there. The coaches are awesome, very knowledgeable, and super supportive. The other members are really friendly and fun to workout with. I always looked forward to my workout.I would recommend Advantage to anyone looking for a place to workout, improve their fitness, or work on their over health goals.

Just joined after a month trial and I think I finally found the place where I can get strong and lean. What I love about this place is that there is a lot of thought put into the exercises for a strong body. After the warm up, I love the emphasis on the core and power workouts. Then you do your own workout which has two sets of exercises so if you come two days in a row, you are not doing the same exercises. The format of the strength hour is such that I can see myself going 4-5 times a week without any procrastination (except that I just wish this place was closer to me!!) I love how Brian is always sharing his thoughts on everything from healthy foods, being mindful of our body posture and checking out the latest in health news & technology. I already feel like I am part of this network of wonderful and supportive people!

I would absolutely recommend this gym! I have been working out here for many years, and I have never had a complaint. As a young competitive athlete, I am very prone to injuries. Advantage has helped me reduce my risk for future injuries and to recover from multiple injuries such as weakened muscles due to broken bones and a growth related knee issue that took me away from impact activities (like running and jumping) for multiple months.Another thing I love about advantage is that the employees are very supportive and helpful. and I always feel comfortable asking questions or just talking about my day.The community at advantage is also a huge benefit to joining. The people who work out at advantage are all extremely positive and judgment-free. Personally, I prefer working out in a smaller environment, so advantage is perfect. There’s no b.s. that sometimes occurs at larger gyms.If you are looking for a place to start exercising; get stronger for your sport, job, family, or life; strengthen your healthy habits; or just to have a nice workout, advantage is definitely the place!
