Martial Arts is something I have always wanted to do. In retirement I now have the time to do so. Monday and Wednesday mornings at 9:00 fits my schedule. I chose the art of Hapkido. It is a self-defense art that is conducive to my age and physical ability. I am learning techniques and am not getting thrown to the ground. Mr. Deaver, the instructor, is knowledgeable in both Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do. He is patient and “he” is the one who receives the abuse! I encourage you to get off the couch and come join us!

AMA Is a great academy. The instructors are nice and helpful. Promotion is relatively easy if you come enough and care to learn. I even met some new friends here! Would definitely recommend this academy to friends and family.

Everybody is super nice and I made multiple friends, btw Kate Reinhart idk who she is and I have never seen her but even the most crazy people can tell that what she says is false information and I bet if you were to walk into this establishment that everybody would say that they like it here.

Me and my daughter attended AMA for 2 years and learned nothing. They would say “ YOU HAVE TO GET ALL YOUR STRIPES TO MOVE UP BELTS SO ASK US TO TEST FOR YOUR STRIPES!” Yet whenever me or my daughter asked for our stripes they would say, “ We are busy! Don’t ask us! We aren’t going to help you.” My daughter finally got to test for her one steps but then found out that one of the teenage black belts that was running the class was teaching green belt one steps instead of yellow belt one steps! They shouldn’t be having a child lead the class anyways! The Deavers have horrible teaching skills. Also, Whenever the kid black belts would work with us they would mess around and we would basically have to teach ourselves, yet we got yelled at by the adult instructors for Somone else’s actions. How cruel is that? There was one teacher who helped us a little bit though. Master Harp was a little helpful for forms but that was it. We now found a great academy with amazing teachers, nice students and people who actually followed the tenets of TKD. They also never had kids teaching, only helping. None of the kids mess around there so they probably could teach the class if they where asked too. The academy we go too now is called Martial Arts America. They also have a great schedule. Many class time and day choices. They also have a much better performance team. AMA’S ( Demonstration Team ) was horrible, very messy and sloppy. MAA has a great team. MAA also has lots of locations. They have over 30 locations all over the Des Moines area. The main location is in Ankeny, while AMA has 2 locations both in Ankeny. So if you are looking for a good academy for you or your child do not attend AMA! Don’t make the mistakes of coming here like we did. You are wasting your money here!

A couple of years ago my adult daughter and I wanted to take tae kwon do together, so I looked at local businesses. I couldnt have picked a better place. What I like the most is that they are not the get in your face, regimented type of place. They teach not only the Art of Tae Kown Do but how to live by the tenants of Tae Kwon Do: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit. Its heartwarming to watch as they teach the kids and how the kids respond, watching them as they help teach younger kids and even this older adult with respect and fun! The whole academy is a family with an open door. This weekend I test for my black belt and I cant believe it. After that, Ill be adding Hopkido (one of many other types of classes they offer. Thank you AMA!
