I would give this particular Hertz a zero stars if I could. I had a reservation made through my insurance company due to my car going into the body shop for repairs. I had my confirmation number for the reservation. I arrived to get my rental car and was told by the Hertz Representative that he didnt have any vehicles available. I asked why they didnt have a vehicle for me when I had a reservation? The Rep said were out right now. I asked why they didnt call me and let me know so I could make other arrangements. My next stop was to drop my car off for two days (Wednesday and Thursday). The Rep responded with I dont know what they are doing in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City? We are in Iowa, what does Oklahoma City have to do with you not having a vehicle or not calling me. The Rep held up a stack of papers and said these people are ahead of you. I might be able to have a vehicle by Friday afternoon or Saturday. I said my car will be done by Friday. The Rep said said Oh. Poor customer service. I know I will avoid using Hertz in the future, no matter the location.

I fought with them to get a rental car and my car was a total loss so only had rental car for six days and then I ended up using a car from the place I bought my car. So I dropped the rental car off at the place and called Hertz on Wednesday spoke to Jon very rude to me on phone ask me to call back on Thursday to remind him to go get rental car so I did and called three different times no answer when he did answer he ask me to hold told him no and reminded him to go get the car I was not going to be charged for another day when I wasn’t driving it. Well I went Saturday and guess what rental car still sitting in lot of place I bought my car so I called and got a hold of Jon again ride ask me to call back in Ten mins sorry I don’t have time to play games with kids. He needs to grow up and act like a adult not a child . I would refer no one to this place employees are to immature to be working with public

We had rental vans to take us from Des Moines to Minneapolis for a flight, and the day of they cancelled and gave our vans to other people. If I could give them a 0, I would. 😊

After a very aggravating policy change set by corporate that should be more transparent to the customer, one of the agents did what he could to make the situation better. If not for this agent they would have lost a customer and this rating would have been a 1* with a bad review.

1st time I used them 6 months ago I swear the associate was on drugs,talked my ear off for an hour over simple car rental.$80 more at the end they tacked on.....State Farm sends me here for rental by the way.So I called a week ago 15min before they close,they pick up and just hangup. I called the next day and they say we will call you Monday They never call an Im left without a rental car I called my insurance company and told him about the 2nd time now theyve done a terrible job Do not use this place at all cost you will be overcharged or they will not show up they are not dependable They are linked to a car dealership so they do not need your business

The ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Rented our vehicles over 4 weeks ago, went to pick them up and they didnt have any!!! Tried to call several times, they didnt answer their phones! Then they wanted to refuse us service because we were upset over this, however, they had NO VEHICLES TO OFFER US ANYWAY!! DONT RENT FROM THEM!! Thankfully we were able to figure something out on short notice, but it cost us twice as much!

Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. I didnt get the name of the employee that I spoke to and was literally dismissed by, but I hope its his last day! I booked a rental and confirmed it online. I arrived right on time, paid a uber, and had my whole itinerary in order. I asked for my reserved vehicle and was laughed at and told theyre booked until MONDAY.... Today is Tuesday man!I said I got dropped off here with the confidence of having my reservation be reliable and trustworthy. I asked if they had a company shuttle or courtesy service. He chuckled and said, Uhhh, uber... still laughing. Have a good day man, sorry cant help you. And back to his phone call he went.I highly recommend PASSING on the HERTZ in Ankeny, Iowa, unless you feel like being laughed at today. Horrible business.

Asian guy at hertz was terrible. Didn’t give us a name. Reserved 4 cars- when we showed up he said he doesn’t have cars. He gave our cars to other people. We almost missed our plane due to him. Terrible customer service. -5000 stars.

We booked a reservation on 4/25 to visit my mother because she was ill. We get to the dealership and our reservation was over sold and a car was no longer available. The man at the counter said we could take the cargo van but that wasn’t going to work. Everyone else who had reservations was being helped, he even lowered the rate in one lady’s reservation. By this point I am in tears, my mother was moved to hospice and this man laughed in my face. I will never rent from them again. I couldn’t even get a refund in time to try and find another option.

Pricing comparisons to Enterprise, did not like that they cant adjust pricing , add an extra day if not back by 9am . Pricing should be covered until midnight, end of day.

Very smooth and efficient check-in process. Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating when we realized the vehicle we rented (our mistake, not Hertzs) didnt have enough storage space for our needs and quickly got us into a bigger vehicle.

Very pleasant experience. The checkout was quick and efficient. The car was better than expected. It was clean and ready to go. All appropriate discounts were applied as appropriate. The drop was was equally smooth. Spoke with the manager regarding signing up for the frequent customer program. Pleasant, engaging staff.

I probably rent between 10-12 times a year and these fellas have always been great. My car is always ready on time and clean and they occasionally give me an upgrade when its available. Ive never had a complication, always a simple process.

Not only did they give me a vehicle that smelled like smoke, which made my allergies flare, they charged my credit card and they were not supposed to due to the rental being associated with an insurance claim. My insurance company was to pay for the cost of the rental. So, I am not sure why they were still charging me. They also left me sitting at the auto repair shop for hours when they were to already have a vehicle there waiting on me while I dropped my car off to be repaired. I called them to ask why they gave me a car that smelled like smoke in addition to why they have been charging my credit card and they put me on hold and never returned to the phone!!!!

The most unprofessional and stressful service I have ever dealt with after being in a car accident where i lost my own car. I rented from Hertz because they had always done good business prior to this. While the situation was confusing with 2 insurance companies involved, Hertz took $2052 out of my account leaving me -$1400. When I went there in person and left work to do so, the manager wrote down that my portion was to be $682.13. He told me he had to put in a refund review via the computer and it could take 7 to 14 days to complete. First of all thats unacceptable because they took out over $1300 more than they should have. I kept calling asking him where we were with the refund and he said I still dont show anything other than approved. I called Hertz corporate today and they tell me he never submitted those forms and this is 12 days later. She read me the notes from the manager that state I am to get back $186 not even close to the amount they owe me and said the manager put in the notes on March 2nd that this is true and there is no refund due. So while I have tried to get answers, he has been less than truthful this entire time even telling my insurance adjuster he refunded me over $1000. I spoke to him on Thursday (2 days ago) still asking him where my refund is and he told me he would find out and call me back. Still hasnt. Hertz corporate tells me today that my only option is to speak with the manager. I said speak with the manager who keeps telling me lies? How am I suppose to get anything accomplished? I even have the receipts where my amount due was written by him. This is some truly shady business and if I could post the pics I would.Ill get my attorney involved. Do not do business with people who operate like this! Its reprehensible!

I was very disappointed with my rental experience. I was told a car would be ready at 3:30 and when I arrived at 5:30, it still wasnt ready. I told them I needed to be somewhere by 6, but my concerned was waved off as no big deal. The three men sitting behind the computers where cracking jokes and didnt appear do be doing any work while I sat and waited for my car. I made to my appointment at 6, but only because I didnt let the nice gentleman vacuum out the exterior. The next day I decided the rental price was too high and called to see if they could come get the car. I was assured that they could and that they would call before they came out. They never came or called. The next day I called again and was again assured that they would be out which they did manage to do. I voiced my displeasure to the gentleman picking up the car and he had the manager call me. Instead of apologizing, all he did was offer excuses! I will never go there again!

Quickly in and quickly out. Rented full size and drove beautiful new Impala. Usually use Enterprise but they jacked their rates 2 days before my trip where Hertz rates were $20/day. Would rent from again.

I have rental insurance and this location refused to bring a car. Short handed only one person said they dont deliver on week ends. I pulled their public promise it says pick up service all locations. Has a manager when I am short staffed I work so no excuse. I was in a wreck my car towed they said I could come to them. They would get me a car. Im filing with consumer protect after notifying the corp. My insurance said these are franchises so we will see who owner is.

Absolutely was astounded that they’d give out a car looking like that, should be ashamed especially since their location is on the same lot as a car dealership (with a detail center). Had to go way out of my way to the airport location and exchange cars. The second was a little better but not much. Just gross. Will never rent from this company again.

Dont go there unless theres nothing else available. I did my quote on line but it was very different when I got to the Ankeny location. The car was not acceptable and when we asked for something else they told us they had to save the better cars for dealership (Karl). My quote showed that Sirius was included but the rental people kept saying it wasnt on their system. I pulled up my quote, showed them it was on there and they still stated it wasnt on their system. I was leaving for vacation but I wasnt driving the crappy vehicle they offered. I finally just left after the cost went over my quote by almost $200. I went to Enterprise, got a much nicer, newer car, Sirius and was in and out in a few moments. I gave this a 2 because I will say Melvin(?) is very nice.

First time renting there went ok, and they were helpful that time. I returned 3 weeks later due to a family emergency and I was very disappointed. Customer service was very poor. I finally gave up and went to Enterprise (and got a bigger car, cheaper, and was in and out in five minutes.) It is unlikely that I will return to this location in the future, but I sense that they probably dont care.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Worse experience of my life. They didnt care about me or my safety. Awful! I would NEVER recommend this place EVER!!!! Stay far away from them. Brian is a total jerk in the office and after all my trouble, when I went to return the keys, they barely acknowledged me. They were in there just talking amongst themselves and another customer. Didnt even say they were sorry for all my trouble!!!

If I could give them 0 stars I would. Worst experience with a car rental company I have ever had. I called two weeks in advance to have a rental setup and they didnt have my name on file. Set everything up through my insurance company had confirmation numbers and they still wanted to charge me. Had to have my insurance company call them a second time to straighten it out and they still charged me a fee. Next time I will use Enterprise and not think twice. I would suggest the same.

Setting up the rental car for our week long trip to Northern California was difficult. I called the airport location multiple times to find out what exactly they had on the lot. I understand that inventory changes rapidly but they couldnt elaborate on what the other vehicles were similar to the Jeep Compass shown on the website. The rates seemed cheaper when you pre- pay so we did that. When we arrived we decided to upgrade for the extra space but it was not explained to us that the amount paid at the counter was in addition to what we already pre-paid so it ended up being over $500 for the week instead of the $335 we were expecting. We will continue to use Enterprise from now on, Hertz would be useful for a business trip when you just take what they have available and the cost is going on the company card.

My fiancé and I had a road trip from hell, we contacted Hertz and went through a manger named Patrick. The manger went out of his way serval times to make us feel comfortable and safe. He got us a rental car two hours earlier than expected and delivered the dealership car to the dealership which was half an hour out of our way. Also, waved our landing fee for our one way trip home to michigan which was upwards of $200 alone. Highly satisfied and highly recommened.

I called today 9/17/18 and asked if I could be picked up from my house on SE Delaware Ave, Ankeny, IA.The gentleman said, where do you live and I stated in Ankeny. He responded with a $25 fee to pick me up.Enterprise Car Rental will pick you up for free in Ankeny and I would suggest going to Enterprise Car Rental since Hertz wants to charge horrible fees to pick someone up. Even though Hertz has clean cars for the most part, I will stick with Enterprise Rental Car.

Too bad you cant give zero stars... Worst experience ever! Email reservations go to 1 persons email, not a centralized inbox so the reservation sent on 7/12 wasnt processed when I got there the afternoon of 7/14. I waited an hour while the guy figured out how to put the reservation in and clean a car. He told me hed put me in a full size instead of a mid size or compact since there was nothing else available.A few days later I realized the registration expired on 7/31, so called and got the same guy I had the day I got the car. He told me to run it up and swap it out when it was convenient. I live 28 miles away and had no purpose to go to Ankeny other than to get my car. I asked if theyd pay for the gas there and back, he said no but theyd pay any ticket I got for an expired registration.I returned the rental on 7/28. My car wasnt actually ready so went back to the Hertz office that same day to get another rental. The same guy was the only one working on a Saturday. The place was packed. He tried to re-rent me the one with the registration that expired on 7/31 since they had no other cars available. I refused since I wasnt making another trip to Ankeny 2 days later to swap cars again. After another hour plus wait, he gave me the keys to a Sonic. When I opened the door it reeked of smoke, were talking like someone smoked a pack a day in there for a couple weeks, not had 1 cigarette reeked.I went back in, he had no other clean cars to give me, so he noted my account that I wasnt responsible for the smoke and I had to drive a stinky car and eat Claritin like it was candy for 3 days so I could breathe. The inside of the car had white splatters on the dash and drivers door, there was no wiper fluid, the windshield was gross. If this was clean, Id hate to see what a dirty car looked like....He put in my 2nd reservation for the wrong dates so they put a hold charge on my debit card. And today I noticed another charge on my credit card for $11.95. Well since he gave me that full size car as a courtesy, the rental rate with tax exceeded my daily allowance so they charged me the extra sales tax with no bill or notice and the reservation is closed so no one can do anything until the manager gets back. This place is legitimately the biggest joke ever.

Word of warning. Do not ever rent a car through Hertz at Karl Chevrolet with Ankeny. Terrible, terrible customer service and overcharges on the back end after returning the car.
