The owner is the rudest most condescending person I’ve ever encountered in doing business with gyms all over the US.The gym itself is nice. The employees are super sweet and kind. However, Jenifer is the most difficult and rude person to deal with.We got a membership while I was residing in Anchorage and working. I seriously injured my ankle and was forced to relocate back to family in Soldotna. I attempted to notify the gym of this and was sent a condescending reply by the owner. Apparently, despite their written policies on their website that state your membership can be cancelled if you relocate within a certain distance and provide proof of such, the owner does not honor this.Please glance at all my reviews to see that I am not in the habit of bashing anyone or their business. However, I feel obligated to write this one for my fellow humans and gym goers. Also, you might want to read some of her comments on any negative posts in here. She isn’t the most professional of people out there.I recommend taking your money to a business that is more open to communication and treats their members with respect in and outside of the gym.

The gym is clean, staff are friendly and very professional, and the quality of service and training is outstanding! They are very cautious with cleaning after every workout session, and provide sanitizing stations around the gym. Ive joined multiple gyms in the past and none of them beats Alaska Fitness. Im glad I joined this gym! I would definitely recommend this gym as well as their training sessions!

I have had such a good experience so far! From the process of signing up to getting into personal training sessions for the first time ever, everyone has been helpful, friendly, and encouraging. Unlike (personal) experiences at other gyms, I dont feel awkward or judged the second I walk in the door. Its refreshing and makes me feel like I might actually be able to stick with my plan and accomplish my goals this time.

Hours are convenient that I am able to work around my work schedule. Staff there are awesome and helpful. Anthony is great to work with as a trainer and rehab and keeps me on track for the goal I am working on. Good assortment of weights and machines so never too crowded to the work I am doing.

I enjoy the diversity in the gym and the respect the patrons have for it. Its not just the gym you go to every other day, its YOUR gym. You want to tell your friends about it, get them in to get active! The environment is friendly and motivating allowing all walks of life to build friendships and fitness

Great gym with alot of awesome equipment. Im an out of town worker and I utilized this place during my stay in Anchorage and I was really happy I did. I got a real workout here as opposed to just other workout facilities that are just all fluff. Not only did they have weight machines and free weights they also had cardio equipment, a multipurpose room and a great sauna. Staff were very friendly as well. If I lived in Anchorage I would definitely get a membership here.

I appreciate the attention and professional advice that they provide with their classes. You will get to know your personal trainer and of course there will be favorites because they all will try their best to accommodate your specific needs. I love the sauna to relax and cleanse my body inside and out.

Owner is rude, unprofessional, greedy unable to communicate with members. Her lack of care towards her business shows through her hostile responses to me as a member and faulty equipment that hasn’t been fixed in months

Tonight was my third time coming to this gym (as a guest) with my brother who has been a member for a month now. There was no one at the desk when we got there so I waited 5-10 minutes for someone to finally show up. The man who did was very rude and disrespectful during our interaction when I asked to purchase a day pass. He told me it was $17.50 for the pass and I told him I thought it was $15 - that’s what I was charged the other two times I went there. He said that was only if I came with a member. So I told him that I came with my brother and he asked me “Did you really?”. I looked behind me around the gym for my brother and said yeah he is in the blue shirt. Then the guy said “ARE YOU LYING TO ME?”. - completely shocked I said no! I couldn’t believe how rude and ignorant this person was. I don’t recommend this gym at all.

Equipment is always in working order and cleaned frequently. Staff is very polite and friendly. The owner is serious about her business and is always open to suggestions/any concerns. Shes a very nice person.

Selection of equipment is good, and it is in good condition. People, both staff and other members, are pleasant and nice to be around. The towel service is a nice touch. The number and variety of classes is good for those who wish to participate. We are quite happy with our membership here, and we have been members of many other gyms. We chose this one for proximity to where we live and work, plus the amenities. The experience has been a good one and keeps getting better.

Friendly staff and they take care of their members! Although its a smaller gym, they have all the equipment you will need for beginners and/or advanced! The gym, all around, just has good vibes and is affordable!

The new babysitting service is so convenient and hassle free, not to mention the childcare workers are super sweet and attentive. The front desk staff are so polite and make it their mission to fix any problems or concerns that members have. Of all the gyms Ive had memberships at, AF by far has the best atmosphere, especially for those early morning workouts.

I absolutely LOVE this gym. Only the most genuine people work here. They are always positive, energetic, remember my real name which is hard to pronounced lol they make me feel welcomed every time i come in for a workout especially during a trying time like COVID. The trainers are absolutely top notch and so knowledgeable. Anthony is amazing! I learned so much from him as my personal trainer. Oh, they have group trainings too and they are awesome! Before I was a member, I didn’t know how exactly unfit I was, their body scan was a real eye opener. It’s insanely detailed, i learned things I would have never known. it’s a great tool to use as a starting point for fitness. The equipments at this gym are great,the rooms, restrooms, sauna are always well maintained and clean. They also have a protein bar where u can get protein shake after your workout. They have everything lol I’m so happy I chose this gym!!

Great value for the price with options to pay monthly under contract or for a full year in a lump sum. If you want a place with all the equipment you need for a serious workout, plus good amenities like sauna/steam room access and towel service, but dont want to pay the price of other gyms this is the place for you. The crowd is mostly regulars of all types (genders, body types, skills/abilities) that create a welcoming, non-intimidating environment. Staff is always friendly and the owner is intimately involved with the day to day operations. A+!

I have had a horrible experience with management. I actually really like the trainers, all of them seem knowledgeable and eager to help. This isn’t enough to compensate for their shady business practices. I regret not reading these comments to begin with, because it would of saved me a lot of money. I misunderstood the contract and thought I signed up for a 1 year membership and to start off I would try 1 month trainer. Turns out if you select a trainer during your contract, they sign you up for a year. 30 days later I told them I can’t afford a trainer at this time so I won’t be needing one for the next month. They told me I was locked into a year contract with a trainer, but I could freeze the account and resume it later. I agreed and have the emails to prove it. 3 months later my account still hasn’t been frozen, I paid $750 in total, I was told that they would give me store credit, I received 0 store credit, and now they aren’t answering my calls or email.After talking with Jen via email she actually refunded me and took the trainer out of my contract. If possible I would take this review down. It was a hassle getting in touch with her admittedly, but in the end It worked out

Jen is on top of her business and really cares about the people who come here. Ever since covid hit, she was ready to take action on how to operate to its fullest potential.

Nice gym. But watch out your bank account. Sneak money. Double charge, charge early is their rules because you sign something you probably even didn’t read!

I don’t know if they’re trying to get money after being shut down from COVID-19, but I cancelled my membership 3 months ago and just found a charge on my credit card. Of course I can’t get a hold of them or the bank with everyone being shutdown. Watch your bank accounts. Now’s not the time to be stealing people’s money.

Facility is open 24/7 — the height of availability. Invariably, everyone Ive seen working at ALASKA FITNESS is competent and congenial without being smarmy. Theyre good people and always helpful. The gym offers a wide variety of exercise machines. I especially like the new machines installed this year. The people using them, the gym rats, are serious without being judgmental. No body nazis, no more-fit-than-thou airs here. Were all working out only to work out.

The amazing staff at Alaska Fitness have been instrumental in assisting me with fitness goals that are realistic and obtainable. And with the 24/7 availability of the gym it really fits into my busy lifestyle. I look forward to my next workout , thanks Alaska Fitness.

If youre looking for a variety of workout equipment then Alaska Fitness has you covered.Alaska Fitness is packed with weight machines and cardio machines. While I think its great that you can find so many different types of machines here the lack of space between the machines makes the workouts a little too intimate. When you can shake the hand of the person next to you and smell their BO its just too close for me.During peak hours this gym is busy, especially at the dumbbells and lockers. Alaska Fitness fee per month is one of the lowest in town and its open 24/7; those are very good reasons to join. Some of the equipment is in rough shape, but the management is always looking for upgrades from other gyms.Alaska Fitness has a reputation of being the Body Builder Gym. I think this a little unfair because I see typical body sizes here. Im thinking 2 out of every 10 members look muscular here. The members do look healthy, so maybe you should join and learn how to look healthy too?Do you hear grunting noises here? Sometimes. But grunting is a normal response to heavy resistance. You wont look weird for pushing yourself here, in fact I think other members will gain energy watching you push yourself.Plenty of parking here, but the parking is very wonky.

Very deceiving. Went in only looking for a 6 month contract, talked with team member and signed the papers being too trusting. Was signed up for a year contract and now can’t get out of it. Make sure you pay attention when signing up and you’re getting exactly what you want. I made the mistake of thinking verbal communication was enough. Also would like to point out that this also happened to a friend of mine but he was able to get out of the contract because he moved AND there are more reviews similar to my situation from recently, even though the owner tried telling me I am the only person this has happened to...

SECOND UPDATE 12/28/16: Still getting charged. Disappointed beyond words. Are things this bad in AK that people have resorted to stealing?UPDATE: Well, spoke too soon. After being told Ok, no problem, I will end it for you I get charged. I thought it was just a mistake so I reached out to remedy the problem. Thats when I get told about this fee and proof of moving papers and just a whole spiel. Im extremely disappointed. I was SO, SO pleasantly surprised when I wrote my initial review. I thought, Now that is how you do business. Back to the present .. Dont tell a customer youre letting them out of a contract and then charge them without telling them. I am disputing the transaction and my bank has opened a claim.***ORIGINAL REVIEW***Saved my life while I was in Anchorage. I loved this gym. When I told Jen I was moving back to Florida and could not stay on she let me out of my membership with no hassle and no questions asked. If I ever return I am coming straight back here.

My personal experience was horrible! They would not take my membership out on auto pay, they cut off my lock saying I did not pay because they cant do their job and control their accounting. Jen has the personality of Sand Paper her partner is rude and there is no customer service what so ever! I knew a lot of their old employees who left and they all have nothing nice to say about the experience. they all said all they did was accuse them of stealing and there is no leadership what so ever! I left and went to a real gym. been happy happy happy :)

The gym overall is great for those serious about lifting but the owner is terrible!!! I bought a week pass just to try it out but then I started noticing unauthorized transactions on my bank account from Alaska Fitness. I never signed a contract, i never even sign up for a membership!! I called, emailed and texted the owner and never ever heard anything back. When I went in there to figure out what was going on the guy at the front desk was a deer in headlights like he had no idea why this was happening. I asked to talk to the owner but she wasnt there at that time. I wrote a note and watched him put it in her mailbox but STILL NEVER heard anything back and I went back in and wrote a couple more notes (due to her not being there) but same thing, no answer. The only thing that I was left to do was call my bank and dispute these payments which I didnt want to do and left it as my last resort. I was very disappointed as I liked this gym due to its atmosphere and the fact that I could lift without any judgment but I will NOT be going back there due to poor treatment by the money hungry stealing owner.P.S Im not the only one that had this problem, she has done this to multiple people. Id rather see this business fail than see someone get away with scamming and stealing from people.

As others have mentioned their membership contracts are not transparent and they will charge you forever without a written cancellation form even if you think your contract has expired. Very unethical business.

A Damn fine gym for serious lifters. 24/7 with key card, 3 squat racks, sauna rooms and good personal trainers. Not for the PF crowd.AK fitness also has surprising convenient child care options (with a 90 minute time limit per day). Ive been a member on and off as geography permits for just under 10 years and in that time Ive had many postivpo interactions with that staff, and never had anyone try to sell me something I didnt need or dont want. So much better than the local coperate gyms, or the PF set.

Im in a months-long dispute to correct being billed for dates long after I canceled. While the staff is nice, they are unable to deal with billing isues; and the Owner will not return calls, refused to speak with me when she was in her office, and has failed to contact me via email.At this point it looks as if they are intentionally stealing from people, but I truly hope to be proven wrong.Avoid this gym like the plague.

Do not ever put your debit card on file for auto payments, and better yet dont ever come here. There are better gyms in Alaska that actually APPRECIATE your business and wont screw you over.I havent stepped foot in this gym since February and cancelled my membership then, giving them 30 days notice as my full year was up in March. Its now late July and Ive still been getting charged 84.95 since then. Jen, naturally as a shady business owner, is refusing to remedy the situation and is trying to keep my $340 she so wrongfully STOLE from me saying my husband checked into her facility June 1st. We were in Talkeetna for my birthday and stayed in Denali National Park -- so no, we did not check in and should be refunded the full amount. Will I be? No, because this isnt the first time nor the last that she will do this to people.I read reviews such as this on Yelp and I shouldve known better.Shame on this business for treating your customers so terribly.

They have all the basics and a pretty friendly staff. Child care workers are friendly. But it is cramped and the parking lot is horrible. For the price it is still a very reasonable option.

The Gym equipment and everything is ok. But the billing is messed up. They over charged me constantly and then fought me for the refunds. Even after leaving the gym the are still billing me. Have to cancel credit card!
