I found the staff here to be helpful and try to get people helped as quick as they can without being rude. Its usually pretty busy when Ive gone but that is my fault for going over the noon hours. Hard working men and women that do a good job.

Huge post office with a self-service packing station (which is super convenient and easy to use). Clean place with friendly workers. I sell stuff online and make a lot of sales, and this post office is perfect for a frequent shipper like me—they have a package drop box which makes it SO easy for me to be in and out without waiting in line.

Ive been mailing from here for 5 years and the staff is always very friendly. I would love to give them 5 stars, but theyre obviously understaffed and Ive stood in line, many times, for more than 40 minutes. I commonly spend 20 minutes in a relatively short line. Additionally, I once tried to avoid the line by going there later at night and using the self-service machine. I paid about $20 for shipping and needed the tracking number to prove I had sent the package, but I dropped the box in after the label had printed and then the machine was out of receipt paper because it hadnt been filled, so I couldnt get to my tracking number.

I just went in to ask about the status of my package and when I could pick it up. The worker at the counter rudely sent me away because the package wasnt set to be picked up when I walked in to asked about it.

Only in the last year have I started having problems with delivery. My Moms house (Idaho Ave) has the same house number as a street right down the road (Oklahoma Ave), and my apartment (Delaware Ave) has the same number as the complex across the street (North Dakota)...we get mail at least once a week that belongs at the other complex. And when having items delivered to my Moms they can end up at the other house and sometimes those people dont give them back for months! Its an honest mistake, but it happens too often. Otherwise- I love this location and the people that work here

Post offices are public, extremely busy places. Look on the Google details to see what times are busiest and what times are the best, like the morning. The staff here is a very friendly. They were so helpful getting our passports. I used this place for my business. Be kind to the postal workers and they will help you out!

People typically only review places after a negative experience and it really skews the ratings. Ive never had any issues with this post office and in fact last week they went out of their way for me. Amazon messed up an order of mine and they helped figure out what address it went to and tried to go retrieve the package the next day. After a friendly neighbor figured out the error and returned it to the post office, Erin from USPS called me to report that they were en route to finally delivering the package to my house. Mind you Amazon mixed up orders and put an address on the package to which Ive never lived, but USPS went out of their way to fix it.

Theyve always been very helpful in fixing any issues that happened. Twice there has been issues with a package arriving to my home but they were great in helping make sure it arrived. Sadly they are a bit understaffed and if someone comes in for a passport appointment that takes away one of the people who help in the windows. But they are all kind and helpful

Great staff and service, with normal expectations for a government institution. People do what they can and in general have a great attitude and customer service. If you need to be serviced in line rather than simply dropping something off, I would recommend going in earlier as the afternoon gets very busy.

They take too long to help each customer. This causes long lines. They dont have enough staff serving customers to handle the traffic and the complex ways they do things. Your best bet is to do everything possible online or use the kiosk vending machine in the lobby if possible.

Slow, but typically friendly service. As a heads up, they may close a few minutes earlier than the posted time. I would suggest utilizing UPS if at all possible before using USPS.

Standard mail officeI called in prior to visiting the office to talk about options for delivery. The receptionist was informative. Upon visiting the branch, the three person line was a little long for some reason, the clerk was a bit slow but I was in and out within ten minutes.The mailmen dont use the lockbox that is attached to my mailbox to leave packages so I did have to waste time going in.

The delivery person bended my document envelops which showed “DO NOT BEND” on the top many times, and squeezed into my mailbox. It’s hard for me to take it out every time!! This behavior should be prohibited!!! :(

The staff at the post office are very friendly and provide great service. The post office is understaffed, which is pretty sad. However, despite being overworked, the staff take the time to help everyone--I have noticed even with customers who have international mailing--and who take a long time at the counter--the staff is always polite and take the time to help the person with the same courtesy extended to a person who is picking up a parcel or just buying stamps. My only suggestion would be to hire more people.

Very rarely do I leave reviews, this is one of those exceptions. Every time I go there there is a long line, plenty of workers walking around the back, plenty of open windows that could be helping people, but nope. Sit and wait for 45 min. The people at the counters seem to care, but every time I have called in I get short answers and told wrong information. Its like they dont even look they just tell you something to try to get off the phone with you sooner. My local carrier doesnt deliver my mail until after the post office closes, so when there is a mistake I cant do anything about it until the next day. USPS is horrible service. I wish they would ruin it like a business. I am always surprised to see positive reviews for this place. Maybe its just the people I get stuck with, either way it needs to be better, being a government service though I wont hold my breath.

Ive had issues with post offices in the past and everyone gives them a bad rep for loosing or damaging packages and I now see how right they are. They threw away a package I ordered instead of forwarding it to my new address. They told me that the forwarding team threw it away but it shouldnt matter. It doesnt matter how it was sent If I order a package and I move my mail should be forwarded to me. Its their job to get me my mail. They go out in the freezing cold and blistering hot to deliver people their mail but they cant put a package on a conveyor belt when my new address is on file and it take just a little extra effort. Terrible.

It is difficult to imagine something that is less useful than an automated phone message informing me that the office is closed and that I should call back during normal business hours which are 8AM to 4:30PM. Oh, by the way, I got this so helpful message at 8:15AM and again at 9:05AM and at 9:20AM.

I use the main post office frequently and sometimes bring complicated shipments. The lines can be long and slow, but Im really surprised about the comments posted here regarding rude staff. Ive always found the staff to be courteous, fairly friendly, and, often, quite helpful.

If you are mailing a domestic package or letter I would recommend going to HyVee. The main post office in Ames is very busy. The customer service desk at Hy-Vee typically has shorter lines and has a daily mail pickup. All Hy-Vee locations have a postal scale or can sell stamps depending on your need.

Worst Post Office I have ever used. On a personal level- Gave so much trouble in me picking up a package and when going to send, I paid extra for it to be overnighted, and according to the tracker, it was not sent out until 2 weeks later. Then the package was lost and never made it to its destination.On a business level- they told me that they will not pick up any outgoing mail, that i have to take it to a drop bin to send it out. They do not even get the mail from our closest bin everyday. The post office is the laziest one I have ever experienced. It is their job/duty to pick up mail and deliver mail. I think its ridiculous of them to refuse to do their job.Service wise- the staff is rude and disrespectful. Very poorly run.

Rude staff is not even a problem. most biggest problem is all of staff dont want to work. every time I go there, they dont even understand or concern about what problem that Ive visit there. One time it was 4:02 and Ive seen that my package right in front of me, but they kept says we dont do pick up after 4:00. Yeah I mean they should be are fired. Why are you work there something that they dont even want to do.

Rude RUDEEE staff. I called to see if I could have my package sent to a different location, hardly a minute away from where it was meant to be sent since its an apartment complex and I wanted it sent to the office of the building. I was basically scolded like a child and told that I was not to expect this to happen all of the time for my convenience. Considering this is the first time Ive even spoken to them, I think its a little excessive.

Very poor service. I tried calling multiple times during the scheduled business hours to locate my package and no one answered the phone. I then called repeatedly and was greeted by a very unpleasant staff member. This staff member was rude, unhelpful, and ended up hanging up on me when I was asking a question.

Theyve shipped my items to the wrong location countless times, have no option to deliver without a signature (despite me never being home during delivery times), and their hours are so restrictive I can never find a time to pick those packages up. Ive given up on trying to receive packages from them.Also they constantly and me spam. The majority of my mail by weight is spam.Its a lot like the Royal Post, except awful.

Rude, condescending employees acting like theyre doing me a big favor by doing their jobs. One gentleman in particular I actively avoid dealing with. Add to that absurd wait times and long lines (currently been standing here for 40 minutes) and this place is just the worst. No wonder the USPS is struggling so badly...get it together.

Is there a reason y the mailman isnt coming to our house to pick up mail. This has happened 3 times now! Very frustrating. If there is mail. There is no reason y our mail shouldnt be picked up! Regardless if there is no out going mail from the carrier . Carrier needs to check always!!!

Worst mail carrier service ever...every day when I put out my mail to be picked up I have to come home and find it still there. I then have to get in my car and drive to drop it off at the post office so bills get in mail on time. What is the damn point of having a carrier if they dont do their job correctly. I am sure they want us to do ours for them correctly...jerks!!!!!
