This was the first time my fiancée and I have climbed. Our instructor, Brenna, was outstanding. She helped us get comfortable and taught us how to correct our form. The environment was friendly and welcoming. It was a laid back experience that allowed us to challenge ourselves at our own pace. We will definitely return. Recommend this place for anyone.

Thank-you Evan for making our experience great. Although there was a young girl there today, (staff member) that was belaying someone beside us. She had a very nasty attitude, was very unprofessional, and really had little communication skills. My friend hooked up her auto-belay wrong. She never talk or advised to correct her, she just yelled. Evan, came over and assisted her. I talked to Evan and advised she was not very nice and my friend was going to contact the owner.Maybe she needs a class on professionalism . I love sport-rock, never had a problem.

I just completed the L1 Anchors class through Sportrock @ Great Falls with Drew Garden as our instructor. The class was a little over ~6 hours long, but by the time it was over, I could have sworn it was only 2 hours because Drew was so engaging to both provide instruction and answer our questions with enthusiastic demonstrations or hands-on experience. It was very apparent he has a strong passion not only for climbing, but for teaching others as well. I learned considerably more than I had anticipated even though it was an L1 course, since a lot of anchor building is circumstantial and adaptive to the location and available gear.I had a ton of fun learning with my group, and highly recommend this class to anyone who thinks they may want to climb outdoors. While it is impossible in 6 hours to cover all facets of anchoring, I ended today knowing I had gained a solid foundation, and trust myself to rig a toprope anchor outdoors now. Drew made this class incredibly digestible regardless of the climbers level of experience with climbing outdoors or in the gym.

I just took the L1 anchors course (an outdoors course to learn how to set up a top rope anchor) with Drew Garden and it was fantastic! It was structured perfectly to enable us to learn each skill step by step, adding context along the way so we would actually understand the logic behind each decision. Drew was wonderfully patient, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make the class fun, engaging and effective. This was my first outdoors class and I couldnt say enough great things about it!Ive been a member of Sportrock for years, and love the community, setting, and staff. SRPI is a great new addition for competition style boulders and learning new techniques. Taylor and Xavier are knowledgeable, encouraging and helpful, I look forward to each session!

This is such an amazing climbing gym. The setting is incredible with smooth movement and extremely fun and challenging problems. This gym has the best setting of any climbing gym I’ve ever been to. The bouldering area has everything I need between an awesome cave, flat wall, slab, a replica of an outdoor boulder that you can climb on top of, moon board, etc. the rope walls are 70ft which is the tallest on the east coast. The lifting area is amazing. Everything is amazing here. I highly recommend it!

I have been going here for 7 years and love it. I see Molly (and occasionally others) for private instruction. I have now been to over 10 climbing gyms across the country and I think I am spoiled by my experience here. They are fairly priced, flexible, safe (physical safety and COVID), nice, and have the tallest walls I have ever climbed. I’ve been going to this gym off and on for five years and this place made me LOVE climbing. As an adult, it was the first place that made me want to go to the gym. The culture of the place makes it comfortable for the serious climber and the novice. They recently did a major expansion that includes 60 foot walls! They reset the routes frequently enough that there is always a new challenge and it is never boring. The place is kept clean and safe, and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Great spacious gym with friendly, helpful staff and a great routes. Me and a friend started climbing three weeks ago by attending one of their intro classes. I would highly recommend the class if it’s your first time because you can immediately learn to belay, which frees you from the climbing restrictions, and you learn all the basic knots you’d need to climb on your own. On our second time we passed the belay test and had free reign of the gym. After looking at all of the local climbing gyms, Sportrock is the largest with the highest walls, and seems to be the go-to place for many serious climbers in the area. We’ve typically gone from 8p-11p on weekdays. Usually a little busy at 8p but calms down a bunch by 9p. Membership is pretty cheap comparatively, and if you buy your own gear a day pass is only $20.The strength training part of the gym is only so-so. Wouldn’t replace your regular gym if you have one. That would be my only mark for improvement.

I began climbing at Sportrock at the beginning of December 2012. This was my first attempt at rock climbing and this facility is what I would consider top notch. From the staff to the patrons I was absolutely thrilled to go work out at the gym. All of their class instructors are employees - they climb at the gym - and the routes are always fresh. If youre looking for some a quick basics course in top rope I suggest taking one of the weekend courses and spending the rest of the afternoon bouldering. Youll be hooked!

Really good for bouldering, but the routes are not as long or as high as some other gyms. Whats great is the variety - you have 3 different areas/angles to choose from. It would be better if they updated some of the padding and kept things cleaner. I would say that this is a really good training gym, where you can really hone in on improving techniques and endurance. Ive taken a few of the classes, and they are taught well and the staff is very knowledgeable. I would recommend trying to go during non-peak hours as when it gets crowded, youll end up waiting around quite a bit to get on the wall.

Update 2: Halloween wall!Update: I dropped a star because it takes them forever to make new routes on the bouldering walls. In this regard, ET was a lot better about putting out new routes every single week on at least one portion of their bouldering walls. In the month Ive been here, the routes were changed only once and that was due to an annual event they had. Well have to see how frequently they change it up from here on out.First of all, dont trust all the pictures you see on here and Yelp. The gym is renovated and colorful and big. I like this climbing gym better than Earth Treks because: 1) its slightly cheaper, 2) they give a free one week trial, 3) parking is free and readily available during the day, 4) the climbing routes seem more fun (compared to ET in Crystal City). The only downside is that the weight room area is a little small, but thats no problem to me since I go in during the day. Definitely getting a membership here!

Gym looked pretty good. But if its been awhile and if you need a quick refresher on belaying you need to take the class at night. The staff would not give or let you play with the equipment to refresh your memory before they tested you. Its either you do it now or take the class. Which sure they want to make money, but I think they need to have an instructor around who can teach the class whenever rather than ask you to come back at another time which may be inconvenient.

Love the all the bays and new additions, including to the bouldering walls. I come here all the time, used to have a membership before I moved further away. Just dissatisfied with one particular employee, there was 45 minutes left till the gym closed and I brought my friends to go climbing, we didn’t realized it closed so soon but that wasn’t a problem we would just come back the next day anyway. But while there we thought to have them (2 friends) take their belay test, but the employee told us “ he’d prefer not to because it’s close to closing” Now when I took mine and other friends of mine it took about 3-5 minutes to do. Not sure how this was a bother for him especially since it doesn’t take more than a minute to coil up a rope and he was just sitting at the desk, but hey. I guess he couldn’t be bothered.

We were vacationing from Arkansas and had heard about this gym. We drove 3 hours from our vacation spot and paid over $100 for climbing time and rental equipment. My husband who has been climbing for 30 years and has taught belaying and rope knotting to newbies was told he failed the belay certification because he didn’t hold the rope the way the instructor wanted. My husband explained that it is a preference that differs from gym to gym and not a safety issue. The instructor’s response (even though he knew how far we’d come) was to “come back tomorrow.” He proceeded to fail the rest of us as well. Horrible customer service. We believe in total safety and would have done whatever necessary to follow the gym’s guidelines but there was no willingness by the young man to work with us. Yeah its one of those places that runs like a high school club. I have a belay card from the club but the management can never find a record of me or my experiences there since I can only make it every few months. Of course the staff doesnt care to remember or recognize me so I get the full why are you worthy to use our ropes treatment every time. Every time I go in I get to fill out new waivers for me and my kids. It is just too kid/family unfriendly, they could care less since they are in a busy location. If this was one of my companies, I would be hiring some new customer friendly staff/management today that would welcome unfamiliar faces. This is my normal gym and after five years, Ive settle into a comfortable love/hate relationship. There is no question that the staff is great, the classes are quality and the routes are set by probably the most talent crew around. However, I truly wonder where managements priorities are. Despite owning additional space in the building for close to five years, being extremely overcrowded for at least the last three and having had funds to apparently renovate a much less popular location, this gym still has no plans for expansion. Currently, I am desperately trying to get climbing time in at 5am twice a week... And in definitely not alone.
