I don’t want to be public due to the sensitive nature of this review. However, if questioned I can probe that we were recent patients of Alan’s for over a year. We saw him for marriage counseling as well and he did help initially. He had some good suggestions. Things were hard and I can imagine his job isn’t easy. However, the problems we ran into were that he would tell one of us one thing and one of us something else that contradicted what he said to the other. Maybe that can be helpful at times. However, in our case Alan saw us separately at times for marriage counseling and then together. He did advise me to look at separation (after a year of therapy and progress). This was based on a session we had without my husband there. At the time we were both very venerable and trying to hold on to our marriage. Our marriage was getting better but we had some set backs. We stopped seeing him and got help through another counselor. Today we are good and I feel like Alan was helpful in ways but I would warn anyone who doesn’t already have a set idea on saving their marriage. During a time of major stress a counselor making a suggestion of divorce could have a major impact. I’m grateful we stopped seeing him and moved in on to a counselor who had a firm believe in saving the marriage (which is what we pay for basically). But more importantly, our religion doesn’t believe in divorce. It’s hard enough with society making it okay to split so we didn’t need a counselor who doesn’t respect our beliefs.Another thing to look out for is that Alan Swindall comes up on google as a “Christian Counselor”. That is why we went to see him. However, he is NOT ..at least he suggested divorce and we married for better or worse.I would NOT recommend him for marriage counseling. I think he could be good for individual issues maybe but did not like my experience with him.
